As a drummer myself: THIS is the type of shit that needs to be more intwined into vehicle reviews. Load in height, room, extras for smaller items, the ability to utilize ALL the space provided. Bravo TFL Truck, this guy is providing USABLE information for us folks that perform a hobby needing everything he’s talking about. He’s going all out and THAT is NOT going unnoticed. Also, nice hockey bag bud....they’re too versatile. Haha

Sequoia is a true SUV!!! Sequoia is the best SUV money can buy, because it's the most reliable and people will never have an issue with turbos because there's none, and people will never have carbon build up because it doesn't have direct injection like competitors. It's not rice burner with turbo. It's not a Prius with Auto start/stop. It's not a iPhone on wheels that needs to reset by the dealer every 6 months and replaced every couple years because of the issues. It's reliable SUV that can go 500k miles without touching engine or transmission. Also, it's simple, reliable, comfortable and holds it's value better than any other SUV. Great on gas for its size. I have one and love it.

repairvehicle only thing better is a 4runner
@repairvehicle
@repairvehicle 6 лет назад
John Pierce , 4runner doesn't have space, power, comfort and luxury features that Sequoia offers.
@brandonmartin7220
@brandonmartin7220 6 лет назад
first off, I agree with you on the reliability aspect, but as far as "Luxury features..?" I work in valet, so I drive tons of different SUV's, and the sequoia does not feel luxurious at all. the plastics feel cheap everywhere. the screens are small, and extremely basic. I personally do not feel as though it is on par with it's competitors.. (GMC Yukon for instance) and for just luxury, I would pick a volvo xc90 over any of the others. having driven new volvo's, they're unbelievably unique and luxurious. Granted, reliability is surely questionable at this point lol. and it's in the same price bracket.
@repairvehicle
@repairvehicle 6 лет назад
Brandon Martin , what value big screen adds? Besides being a distraction. I just don't understand people that complain about big screen. When you driving a vehicle you are not looking at screen, you are looking at the road. Also, if going to talk about big screen, nothing is better than Tesla screen.
@brandonmartin7220
@brandonmartin7220 6 лет назад
It does not necessarily have to be bigger, but the graphics are outdated. the screen just looks 10 years old. regardless of how you feel about the screens, they hold a lot of information. if all your vehicle information is in a small screen, it is much more distracting than a large, easy to read, and intuitive screen. And again, the build quality and materials do not feel luxurious, you didn't address that part. Tesla isn't really relevant here, although i feel the volvo screen is very close to being as good as the tesla screen.

Fun review and great rift! 😀 The sequoia is a bit long in the tooth but I think it’s still a great vehicle. If not for my love of the LC I’d want this in the platinum trim as my 4Runner replacement. MPG is not really a concern...it is what it is.

It’s a great idea to have Canadian perspective of this channel. The information and specification of the data magazines are presented in a somewhat TFL way. Kudos for this new perspective idea. Hopefully future videos will be in not so amateurish matters. Stick with TFL (measuring, evaluating, etc) methodology. Keep the channel alive...

Yes this is why we purchased a 2018 Sequoia. Proven reliability, strength and safety, and room. I know the MPG sucks, but didn't want the complexity/cost of repairs of auto start/stop, turbos, and displacement on demand nonsense that other brands use.

Nice review. We have a 2016 platinum and with two car seats in captain chairs in middle row, we can still fit 4 large suitcases, two strollers, pack and play, coolers, and more kids stuff for road trip easily. Third row seating is amazing even for adults. Compare to a Tahoe where you need to be in fetal position just to sit back there.

No lie, I used to bring my drum kit on test drives to make sure it'd fit. I've since scaled back to a three-piece and I've been able to fit it in just about everything since. I even drove a Fiat 500 for a few years and could fit everything in with just the back seats folded. Great test!

Great review, I know the platform is old but it’s the reason why I bought a 2015. Coming from a ‘07 Expedition, the Sequoia is the best bargain on the market in terms of reliability and resale value. All that tech in newer comparable models come at a cost, and I for one would rather use Waze than any built in nav. Three things about your review I’d like to mention. 1) You do not have to manually flip the headrests down in the third row, as the power fold will automatically flip them at 50%. 2) The Platinum trim level has the modulated air suspension which the rear end can be lowered 1.2inches below normal ride height. 3) The rear hatch has a soft close feature. Lower the hatch to almost closed position and it will electronically pull it closed. No need to slam it shut!

The great thing about its age is that we know it is reliable. Toyota isn't hitting this mark as well as they used to and it's nice to know this is one of the few "new" rigs out there you can get that you will have 20 years down the road minor to no issues.

Steven I also have a Pearl kit, nice! I have a set of soft cases for my drums, cymbals and hardware. I got my Galaxy cases from SteveWeisMusic.com, focused specifically on Percussion, and the cases are great! They have thick padding while being flexible for your loading situation. For me I have a 2017 Tacoma TRD Off Road with the short bed and it works great for loading my kit. Great to see you express your other interests and being able to incorporate the vehicles you review. It’s awesome! I’d love to see more of these Musician’s reviews on the vehicles you review. Thanks! Also I’d love to hear more sick bass licks and drum beats like you included at the end

@mikefoehr235
@mikefoehr235 6 лет назад
So you think the metric system is no good....well let me give you an education. I am a surveyor and many years ago I worked for INCO in Sudbury which was based in USA. I did survey layout for railway track among many things. At INCO all was in Imperial. So...surveyors work in 10ths of a foot and 100ths of a foot. Trades people work in carpenters rule. Just imagine how crazy it is to convert 100ths of a foot to 16ths. AND...IF METRIC IS SO TERRIBLE...then why do we surveyors basically turn the foot into metric??? I think your lack of understanding of the metric system is why you have no clue what you are talking about. In metric, I as a surveyor work in metres...centimetres...and millimetres....and the trades use the same scale...so much easier. I wonder what you have to say now. As for degrees centigrade...it makes more sense to have water freezing at 0 and boiling at 100. The 0 in Fahrenheit was based on brine or the temp that salt water freezes...great for guys in the ocean maybe...but I live near the Great Lakes...and they are sweet for the most part. Now you know.

My main insterment is trombone ,but I remember loading the trailer of my high school band with perception equipment and other stuff being in the loading crew. Then there was loading insterments in the busses. I change if school bus in town or charder buss to go out of town. In school buses big wind insterments and some percussion would be loaded by opening the back door. Charder busses we put big insterments (like brass , bass version of woodwind , and marching percussion , and other equipment not in the trailer under the busses. Smaller insterments like Bglat clarnets and flutes for example would be under the seat or over head of the person. Also in the trailer keyboard percussion insterments would be covered but vary on distance on everything big . Like the chiams and timpaines would get the soft cover out of town but in town may just have the breaks and bungy cords. Out of state the tampains when in to their cases. The trailer would have infront the taimpains; the big bass drum; chiams; the gong; under selfs the keyboard insterments like the marimbia, xylophone, vibraphone and bells, if marching session drum major stands; shrlls have all kinds of axulery perception ; percussion stands; wind cymes; cymbles in a bag; sometimes color guard equipment; and alot of stuff we needed that could fit. Accoress when it was not marching we had more room for stuff. Even performing on stage requier many things.

Sequoia is my most favorite SUV of all time. I don't care if there are better ones like the ford expedition or chevy toheo. I'll take the Sequoia any day. Even if people persuade me to try the ford or chevy, I will not drive them. Even if I crash my Sequoia, I'll buy another one. These Sequoias can last up to 500k miles. I'm serious. So really Sequoia is my #1 SUV and it's a BEAST!

I think they should keep that 5.7 V8. It’s powerful and most importantly reliable. If they put an engine like a 3.5 V6 with a turbo it wouldn’t be reliable. If I was buying this efficiency would be my last priority.

I'd love to see further development of Toyota's powertrains, but I also appreciate such a tried and true engine option remaining. Not only is it relatively simple compared to some other offerings, but it's been around for over a decade meaning parts and maintenance will be much lower even if something does go wrong. That's why I like Ford's offerings right now, they not only have the EB for those who want it, but still offer the 5.0 (albeit revised).

I know all too well what it's like to cram a bunch of gear into a truck, van or car. It's like playing Tetris. I once had to fit a nearly 5 foot tall Ampeg cabinet in a 1988 Ford Festiva. That was.......fun....

I think its chevy square bodies , from 1973 to 1991. basically the same truck with small updates every several years by the time 1991 came around not many parts would cross over except major components and body panels.

@0:48 Toyota do better than the competition is the reliability and that's the crucial factor of my choice beside all the other perks of competitors do.

I would really like Toyota to update the Sequoia. Desperately needs an upgraded infotainment system, better fuel efficiency as it's lowest in its segment, and a design refresh. Please Toyota update this so that you can compete in the large SUV segment.

Zach L , you are not going to get better MPGs with competition.

False. Own a 2016 Yukon Denali with the 6.2L and even with it running all 8 cylinders 100% of the time as I disabled the AFM, we still have achieved 21-22 mpg on the hwy and typically 17-18 combined. Sequoia is rated at 13 city and 17 hwy for a 4X4. Yukon has way more power with the 6.2L, an abundance of luxury and convenience features, and is truly a great family vehicle. Only advantages for Sequoia are more storage space and reliability. There are several reasons why the Sequoia ranks last in the full size SUV segment and why the Tahoe/Yukon rank 1st year after year.

Exactly. The Sequoia is over a decade old and the powertrain is beyond inefficient. Toyota doesn't sell enough of them to justify spending money to update them. Toyota also avoids updating any vehicle until the last minute because when they make big changes, the reliability goes in the shitter. Just look at the 2016 and 2017 Tacoma. Each one earned the title of least reliable midsize truck by Consumer Reports, primarily because Toyota made big changes to the powertrain for 2016 that results in unreliable trucks.

hochhaul for the most part I agree. In terms of the updating the Sequoia is past due to be updated, at least the infotainment system. A 6" touch screen in a vehicle that size is just plain terrible. They also expect just as much for them as the recently designed Armada's or close to as much as a comparable packaged Tahoe, Yukon, or Expedition. Again, many reasons why they don't sell very many of them.

www.fuelly.com/car/chevrolet/tahoe www.fuelly.com/car/chevrolet/suburban www.fuelly.com/car/toyota/sequoia Hmmm... looks like you're full of shit. The fact that the Suburban and Tahoe outsell the Sequoia 10:1 is probably for a very good reason.
