Gotta love the cops that say "don't show me yours, and I won't show you mine". It's comforting to know that there are officers who trust honest citizens.

thats what I call 'single guy carry'...when you are a dad or soccer mom doing school drop-offs 'n pix up you have to be more diligent and safe in the way you carry. I am personally never more than 50' from a loaded firearm. but in the same token I can leave a trail of guns and ammo around. When I was single I had a candy dish on my coffee table with 9mm Winchester Silvertips in it...that definitely started a few conversations and the cleaning lady never stole from me.

I started in law enforcement back in 1982. I remember an officer safety lecture from my academy days. The officer giving the lecture asked us where we would secure our weapon while driving on out personal car. After a few different answers he gave us his opinion. He secured the gun on the driver’s seat underneath his left leg. His rationale was if you needed to get your weapon fast it was right there with no unnecessary movement. I’ve secured it there ever since!

Many states reflect Texas in that they allow you to carry in your car without a concealed handgun permit. I would still urge most people to have your CHP so that when you get to your destination you can lawfully carry your gun to protect you and NOT leave it in your car. Guns are one of the most sought after items in car break-ins. Please don't give your guns away to criminals.

I've been scouring the Internet for a good holster in my car, and although my crossbreed works great mounted in the center console of my SUV (glued it to the side), my car was problematic because I couldn't conceal it. Your hat cover is seriously the best idea I've seen so far! Fast draw, no nonsense, nothing mechanical to go wrong... So thanks so much for the simplicity!

In the AZ, no permit is required, no does it need to be concealed, whether in a car or not. We call it Constitutional Carry. Most days in the car I put it in a similar place, except on my side of the center console, sometimes covered up. I also try to remember to carry my wallet on the opposite side in case I get pulled over. No sense in making a police officer more nervous than necessary.

Pretty good idea, simple in form and function. Only suggestion I can make would be to get a Remora holster. Not only are they great IWB holsters (works good for pocket carry, too, with smaller pistols), but the sticky outer material of them works VERY well for in-vehicle carry. My girlfriend carries her SR9C in a Remora (with spare mag on-holster attachment), and it makes for easy access AND easy in/out of the vehicle. If I didn't have a perma-mounted holster in my vehicle, I'd also do the same.
@johngreen4067

As always, an insightful video. One thing of which you would need to be EXTRA aware is the position of your index (trigger) finger when drawing the weapon. If if is at all difficult to pull from between the console seat, there might be a tendency to curl that finger. And that, would put it on the trigger. I would bet that Mr Noir has practiced this particular draw and would strongly suggest that you do so.
@reallifeengineer7214

Great video. Thank you Colin. For the intent of what the video is trying to show, I agree many of the on-body carry positions can’t really be drawn when buckled in a vehicle. So having a dedicated in-vehicle one becomes necessary. That said, if the soft shell holster is simply nudged between passenger seat and center console, and the firearm can still be drawn from that position, the entire firearm & holster will likely dislodge free in case of hard braking, bad bumps, or collision. A bolted hard-mount will probably be more reliable.

I recently picked up a JM4 Tactical holster. Instead of a clip it is held on by two magnets. One on the side of the holster and one on a piece of leather extending from the top of the holster. You bend the leather extension over to connect the magnets. It with perfectly on the handle used to manually adjust your seat. Its the perfect distance for an easy grab. I know a lot of people don't like to take their holster off until the get home but I'm short enough that I can put the holster back in my pants in the car. It works for me

For Texas, you need to pass the 4 points in the Texas Penal Code (TPC), sec 46.02. 1. You must be on your own premises or property that is under your control. 2. Inside of a vehicle or if you are heading straight to your car, AND keep the handgun concealed at all times. 3. Must not be breaking the law which warrants anything over a class C misdemeanor (traffic violations). 4. Must not be a member of a gang. Please remember that you must be able to legally own a gun as well and that Texas does not care at the moment if your guns are loaded or unloaded in your car. You can keep a loaded gun in your car as long as it is hidden from plain view. I advise people to not keep their gun in their glovebox or anywhere near their insurance/registration. And please don't believe any one, especially when it comes to legal matters, educate yourself and speak with a lawyer.

Florida vehicle carry (as of 2014 allowed on college campuses) allows for the unlicensed to contain their firearm 'securely encased' (glovebox, snapped holster, zippered/latched/lidded case). I have seat covers where the elastic material shrouds the pouch behind the passenger seat where a snap holster resides. The material is a little frayed now, as I've practiced lift/unholstering routines a bunch, but still conceals well.

This is a simple answer to a complex issue. Perhaps a short cable or strap to connect the holster to the car seat so the gun will not go flying about if the car is hit. But it seems to be the best answer all around. Putting the gun in the console might work as well. I admit it is slower to draw but still out of sight.

I drive an older suburban with bucket seats, so I have several options. Generally, I carry on my side with a Galco KingTuk IWB holster. when I get into my vehicle I have a drop holster attached to my seatbelt latch strap between the console and seat, that holds and well conceals. when I exit my vehicle and am going to a place where I CAN NOT carry, i typically place in the console.I also have these handy pockets on my door panels that i use at night in bad areas of town for quick draw if needed.

I drive an audi tts , not a lot of room , however no kids, despite that , within the last month, valet service at the restaurant , my girl sat up front, blew a tire , cop came to safe harbor me on the freeway, no disclose, Tow guy got in the car, Audi mechanic in the car, guy that drove out the car to me was in the car. So what was my saving grace ? Magnets under the seat, as you cannot just put the gun it in the glove box . Great idea to have a few magnets in different places so you can move the gun around but also brace it well. Have the same idea at home, , magnets everywhere , desk, bed, bathroom, garage, just to keep people safe .

I carry my gun the exact same way but with the retention snap rigged onto the center console of my wrangler. The gun is a glock 33 and the holster is a uncle mikes. With the retention snap I can push it deeper into the crack of the seat; even someone sitting there has no idea. I think it's smooth to hand them both your license and chl. I don't talk to cops; if they ask if there are any weapons in the vehicle I hand them my CCW. Round in the chamber ALWAYS...I wouldn't sweat first responders; any of them assume a gun and far worse can be in any car at anytime. Nice work like your videos.
@aalendi
@aalendi 9 лет назад
You are well within your rights not to tell cops most anything with the exception of a few states that have "shall inform" laws for concealed carry. While it is implied by handing over your CHP and not saying anything that you are armed, it is probably not a bad idea to at least let the officer know where you are carrying. It puts the police at some level of ease to at least have an idea of where the gun is and it is a nice courtesy. If you decide not to give that courtesy, I'd fully expect you'll see the business end of their gun should you reach toward your glove compartment, center console, pockets, small of back, jacket, floorboard or any other place a gun could be concealed. You have your rights and do what you think is best for you. This is just food for thought.

+Adam Lendi They always have to assume every vehicle has a weapon no matter what. Difference is I am not a criminal and there is no reason for me to get stupid. Problem is in certain jurisdictions in Denver there are some stupid ass wannabe turbo cops. Its never a good idea to transfer a loaded firearm to ANYONE so I try to be nice to those turds and be on about my business without some major shakedown that could end with someone fumbling a firearm; that would have been better if left safely in its holster. I work very early mornings and its pretty normal to get stopped. Most cops are good people but; every now and then you get a dick or a bitch I just let them spew and play their silly game until they get bored and let me go. Thanks Adam love hearing different opinions. In these dangerous times "always carry" peace

I like the idea of hiding in plain sight. I think your idea is awesome. As far as an accident situation. I would attach velcro to the outside of your holster and the part of your console that the holster rests against. Hook and loop velcro would do the job and it would def. stay secured in just about any situation.

Interesting. If that holster is dedicated for car carry, I would put some Velcro on your center counsel and on the side of the holster. If crap happens and you have to pull in a hurry, the Velcro will help hold the holster if you should pinch it a little during the draw...or you would have to shoot through the holster once, quickly remove it and clear the jam.

everything thing you said is correct pertaining to Texas laws EXCEPT, in the stae of Texas you are not required to conceal your firearm. it can be anywhere visible in the car IF your wish.

I live in Texas. I do NOT have a CHL( i just haven't spent the money or taken the time to get one ). When I used to carry my pistol I would put it under my left leg pointed at the drivers door. Locked, Cocked and ready to Rock. On long trips it would be uncomfortable in which case I would put it in the center console or just in the cup holder and if someone was coming up behind or along side me, I would move it under my leg to 're-conceal' it until they passed and then it would go back in the cup holder.

Good vid- pretty handy way to carry. Just a word about driving in Tx without a CC permit- it is not legal. Only if you are "a traveler". That means traveling from one county into another and not a part of your regular routine. Driving to the store for example or to/from work with a gun in the car & no CC permit gets you arrested if you get caught. Something like a pistol grip shotgun on the other hand- perfectly alright in the Lone Star State with or without CC permit. Gets tricky real fast.

@mort6913 @MrColionNoir is correct. No license (CHL) required to carry your firearm loaded and within reach in Texas. Some even conceal with a simple newspaper, or a glove over it when between the seats. Great point although not applicable to Texas at this time.

you know when I carry and I'm in my car I am left handed so the weapon is on my left hip what I do it's just take the weapon out of the holster if it's at night time I will put the weapon right where my seat belt clicks if it is in the daytime I keep it just below the seat on my right hand side I have a towel on the floor on the driver side I just keep it tucked up under the corner but it is easy accessible if I need to get to it thanks mr.noir I love you videos

@MrColionNoir Try WRB Holsters (Gun Barrel City, Texas). Picture on the website. I don't work for them and am not affiliated with them but I do use this little holster system in my truck and it works great. The picture is not that good but essentially the belt goes around the seat from front to back and the holster is velcroed to the belt between your legs. Baseball cap covers the weapon for quick runs when I can't legally carry. Locked case otherwise.

Good video. Prior to the change you cited Texas law was actual very vague as far as carrying a handgun without a permit. The traveler thing was a defense to prosecution and there were a few other "defenses" that came from court rulings but by in large is was up to you to prove what you were doing. Now, the prosecution has the burden of proof. I would caution folks to be aware of "places weapons prohibited" the next section in the Texas Penal code.

I have found that I can easily access my firearm with it in my hip holster in my car. All I do is pull my shirt over the lower part of my seat belt and make sure I'm not sitting on my shirt and I'm good to go. My gun generally rides at 3:30 or 4 o'clock so the seat belt buckle doesn't really bother me.

Nice! Been doing that (not using hat, other things), for 30 years. I prefer to have it beside MY seat, and the console. Mostly out of sight, and very handy. If you can't get it NOW when needed, you might as well leave it at home. Oh- I've packed a Glock 23, for 18 years now- always. Best of Luck, in the Great Collapse!

I don't carry like that for a couple reasons. Hard breaking or someone bumping you would send it into the floor. Also the hat is an unnecessary step, With my car the guns fit perfect on my side, I dont have to reach over drinks, nobody can see it, nor can they jump in the other side and get it. And when I draw upward it's the same angles I always use, not reaching over a happy meal etc. I can also completely draw without looking away from the road. My step one is getting the grip, it's your 2.

its called a glockclip, allows you to conceal carry by just clipping it on your waist IWB and no need for the holster

love your channel Colion! you need to check out mountable holsters from Grass burr leather works...They're Texans too. what if you get in an accident in your car and the holster between your center console and seat goes flying who knows where...GrassBurr's holster will make that a non-issue...sootch has a good review of the product. you should get one and review it too...

i'd keep it in the door covered in a rag or something, cars vibrate and bump a lot. worst that could happen is it blows a hole in the frame, vs it blowing a hole in your transmission.
