Highway Holster - Car Carry Option

Car holsters are generally just a bad idea, and you are much better off finding an on-body solution that works for you. Here are some reasons why. You really aren’t gaining much in terms of access. If you carry AIWB your draw should be largely unchanged, and even carrying strong side shouldn’t totally impede the access to your weapon. Practice it. The typical situation people use to justify this type of holster is a car jacking. If someone has the drop on you with a gun of their own, reaching under your dash or to the side pocket or side of the seat for yours isn’t fooling anybody, and if that carjacker is determined, you likely won’t be fast enough anyway. What then? If you are forced from your car you just gave that perp another weapon. If it’s not on your person it’s not in your control. What if you have to ditch your vehicle immediately? In an emergency are you going to remember to grab your gun, and get it holstered up? Maybe, but maybe not. If you do, that’s still time wasted as opposed to just having it on you. Having your gun on your person eliminates that risk. Maybe life isn’t that exciting all the time, and you just need to run into the store quick. Are you going to take the time to put the gun on before you go grab a road snack? You should, because leaving an unsecured gun in the car is negligent as hell. Now you have to do unnecessary administrative gun handling in a tiny metal box with windows. That’s not ideal, and as much as people think it can’t happen to them, it opens you up to more opportunities to screw up and have an ND. Now I know someone is going to come in here and tell me I shouldn’t carry a gun if I’m worried about having an ND. The fact of the matter is that many of the worlds best shooters and instructors have had an ND at some point. That doesn’t make it ok, but it means that people more experienced and skilled than me have done it. Therefore it’s probably unwise to purposefully introduce extra opportunities to screw up into our lives. Comfort? That’s generally a gear issue. I carried a full size gun AIWB on an 18 hr car ride one way a couple months back. No big deal. Now I also recognize that no one has been carjacked at 70mph. If you need to take your gun off when your driving, leave it in the holster and remove the holster from your pants. It’s also smart to secure it in some compartment so it doesn’t become a projectile in a wreck. Leaving the gun in the holster makes putting the gun back on much safer too. Using a magnet is an even bigger issue. First you have an exposed trigger. If you keep the gun chambered that’s silly given the exposed trigger guard, and if you don’t that’s also silly because it adds even more time to the draw. Magnets are the worst of the worst in this case. In closing, car holsters are derpy, and there are almost no benefits to outweigh the pile of issues they cause. I can’t think of a single relevant instructor that advocates for them.

Try putting the holster on the other side of the arm to remove that floppiness. The holster will push the arm into the seat and should alleviate the problem.

Check out the travel mount by sticky holster. Can mount in your Center consul. I carry a backup in a sticky holster in my canter consul and my primary stays in my waistband in a kydex holster. I like the sticky holster accessories because there’s not so many moving parts to worry about. That’s just me though. I know it’s not for everyone. Definitely worth checking out though if you’ve never tried it.

You can you 3m double sided tape to fix the flop and tape it on the center console

Only thing I gained here is just how tight the occupancy is in most vehicles with a center console. I have a jeep Compass and it is much tighter. To me, the best option would be inside the center console armrest. That also depends on the size of platform and what ever else you want in it. The only reason I see to remove your carry is for comfort on long driving trips as it can be a challenge to re-holster on exiting in most bucket style seats. As now, most vehicles have no lockable glove-box or center console. When you HAVE TO LEAVE your platform in your vehicle an under seat lockable box is much more useful. So in those situations, where do you store and secure your platform? As one seems to have to keep knee pressure on this holster to prevent movement is not adventitious!

You completely ran a stop sign at 13:10.... I did find this video while looking at this holster carrier. I currently just keep mine in the center console. My only concern with this is people seeing my gun while I am at work or something and I would end up having to pull it out of the holster and put it where I currently have it when I am not in my vehicle anyway. I didn't know about the steering column ones so I might look into that if it would be hidden

have you thought about putting thick washer spacers between the gun and interior walls, so it would wobble when driving??? you can probably use industrial strength glue and it beats drilling holes. i'm still looking for a solution. I might use the gun magnet.

what a crock. clean that shit off your console and velcro it. Having something like that flop around cuz you're afraid to have something sticky that'll take you 10 minutes to clean off later or you just plug the holes with same colored caps
