I hate removing/replacing those cheap door handles and interior handle reinforcements. I regularly spray brake cleaner and PB Blaster inside my door lock actuators to keep those parts moving freely. creates quite the mess inside the door panel im not gonna lie, but its worth not dealing with the hassle, and the pb blaster helps keep the rust away inside the door anyhow :)
I would never have been able to figure out how to remove everything so cleanly. I'd probably have disassembled the actuator in the door trying to get it out.

Great, very clear. I would suggest before you try this, try re-setting the key....as I remember, you turn the ignition 4 times quickly to position 2, get a beep sound, then lock ( or unlock...or is it open...the door) Check your user manual, it's in there.

How do you open the door if its stuck locked and closed? Any help would be appreciated, no idea if its just because of the cold weather or if something is actually broken. Mk1 2004 focus, TIA!
It could be a number of things mate. First thing, try it when the weather is warmer. Do you have a key lock on your door? If yes, try locking and unlocking the door several times. If that doesn't work, try pushing on the door pretty hard a few times - that may shift the mechanism inside to open. Other than that, you may need to get in through another door and try from inside...

hello great video i have the same problem i followed your video but the problem is the door wont open from the inside now the handle on the inside is sticking out now when i pull to open it wont but if i push it in it lock all doors
Hi James, that's a strange problem, I'm not sure what happened to your door handle. But one thing I can recommend, is that the cable that goes from the door handle down to the actuator, can be attached to the actuator in two different positions. You will see two different black plastic clips on the actuator that you need to clip the cable on to. You clip it into one or the other - not both. In the video you can see me do this at 7:23 exactly. Try putting your cable onto the other clip position. The actuator was made for two types of doors - 4 door saloon, and 2 door coupe. The doors are different sizes so the cable needs to be clipped to different points depending on what type of car you have. Hope this helps...
Thanks for the video. My 2004 mk1 passenger door wasnt opening or closing with the central locking, so I locked the door from the inside but now it wont open at all and the lock wont click to the open position. Any advice would be massively appreciated
That's a tough one, I haven't experienced this myself... Try pushing on the door from the outside with your body weight, before you attempt to unlock the car again with the remote. If you relieve the pressure from the door latch by pushing on it like this, you may make the job of the failed door lock actuator easier, and hopefully it will be enough to unlock the car... If there is no way to unlock the door from the inside, I'd also try to get in warm weather to see if it loosens up the mechanism... Good luck, I hope that helps...
I have a 2002 ford focus with key fob. I can't lock the the doors with the button. I can hear like a relay clicking on and off but no central locking with key or fob. I have to push the lock button on the drivers door and then lock the car with key on the passenger door. I have bought a replacement comfort control box just incase its at fault. Any thoughts would be appreciated thanks.
Hi mate, seems the problems you've done repairs to on your Focus, mine has them too, funny as mine is a silver 3dr zetec as well. This is my 3rd Focus, my first was a ST170 some 15yrs ago, before it was driven over by a Nissan Patrol on my way home 😭 on boxing day one year
Mine locks and unlocks, but the handle doesn't pop it open anymore... It worked on and off for a while, but totally gave up recently, I don't hear or feel it trying to do anything inside the door at all anymore. Still opens from the inside!
I cannot open anything with my key. I think problem is receiver but they only sell whole central lock systems with new keys. I have change batteries and clean connection surfaces in key. 2002 ST170 is my car.. There are some more electricity problems.. Inside it is like disco, but I can start to fix it only in summer times. I don't have carage or other space where fix my car. Your videos are useful, make some videos about older ST's =)
Hi Olli, I'd love to make videos on an ST170! Problem is, here in Australia, they only sold about 100. Very rare car to find... but I will keep trying :) Just a tip, if you have other electrical problems besides the key, maybe it's a bigger electrical issue, like water getting into the car somewhere, and effecting the wiring (grounds/earth wires) or the ECU itself? I would definitely start looking for leaks in the summer, and check the ECU and wires for water damage and corrosion. Best of luck mate, and thanks for your support :)

Hi mate, I don't think you can buy this part new any more... Your best bet is to find one on eBay, or at a wrecking yard. This is what I had to do... I hope that helps.

My mk1 ford focus door lock works only on the driver side. On the passenger side i put the key, i turn it and nothing happens. Could this video fix it?
Really not sure without seeing the door, sorry. It could be the actuator as they can cause the door not to lock. It could also be other things like the latch mechanism in the door handle or the key barrel. Why don't you pull the door skin off and take a look?

A moment ago i parked it, closed the doors and i noticed that the closing sound was different, i checked all 4 doors and the rear left one didn't lock... For now i locked it using the button inside the car, could it be the actuator this time?
Question? 2000 focus sedan (USA) with power door locks. If one actuator goes out , does the rest of them work? None of mine work so I don't believe its an actuator? I checked the (hidden) fuse on the backside of the interior fuse panel under the dash and it appears to be good. Could it be a body control module? The only thing that works via keyfob is the interior lights come on when pressed the panic arm and the trunk lid. When I lock the doors manually then press the lock button on the fob, the horn chirps and sets the alarm, so it may not be a module? HELP!!
That is a strange one tony... the easiest place to start is to replace the battery in the fob. When you have the fob apart, take a look at the circuit board to make sure all your contacts are clean and the circuit board in the fob isn't damaged. If that's all good, it must be something in the control module, as all actuators operate independently.
@@Horus_Works the fob is good or it wouldn't turn on the inside lights and pop the trunk lock. I'll check the module. Not sure where the module(s) are located?
Maybe that is what is wrong with mine. The fob works the trunk, but none of the four doors lock or unlockusing the fob. Even manually pushing the inside buttons to unlock does nothing to any door. When I press the fob however, the interior lights come on and the alarm works when I press the fob to activate it. Can that one door actuator that may be bad make none of the other door actuators work? I do remember awhile back that when locking the doors via fob, while inside I could hear the drivers side actuator sounding funny as in weak sounding. I don't think the problem is electrical since the fob works everything else. Just don't see how one bad actuator would effect all doors! Help!
What happened with mine was when the fob was pressed to lock the doors, the doors would attaempt to lock, but they would immediately unlock. This was because one of the door actuators would not lock at all, therefore the car unlocked everything else to match. This is the symptom of a bad actuator - one door will not lock at all (that actuator in that door), forcing all the other doors to unlock as well to match it. If your car attempts to lock itself but then immediately unlocks, I would say it's definitely an actuator. Your problem does not sound like this however, and because none of the doors lock or unlock at all with the key, I'd take a closer look at the mechanism that would control all of the doors in sync. In the case for the MK1 Focus I'm pretty sure that would be the body control module but I could be wrong. I've never had this issue so I'm only guessing here. Sorry I can't be of any more help, hopefully someone else will chime in here, and if that doesn't work, hit up some of the Mk1 Focus groups on Facebook - everyone is really helpful there. @@Horus_Works My doors lock and unlock straight away unless I lock passenger front door from the inside first, then the other 3 doors lock and unlock with central locking. If I use the key in the passenger door it works the central locking perfectly, will it be passenger door actuator that is faulty? Also when I connect car battery I hear a clunk from rear passenger door.
Question? 2001 focus hatchback mk1 | 3 door (EU). I dont have a key with buttons so i need to use the key itself to open the door but the driver side wont actually open both sides (the passenger side does work btw). Does this video also apply to my situation because only saw you use the buttons but not the actual key. Pls help :)
Hm.. that's a good question, I'm afraid I don't know the answer to that one... in my case the door didn't lock at all, so replacing the actuator solved the problem. Maybe in your care only part of the actuator that controls central locking is broken, whereas in my case the who unit was broken? I'm really just guessing here, but if you think it's a mechanical issue as opposed to electrical, it can only be the actuator. Hope that helps...
@@Horus_Works does it help if i say that there are times where it also doesn't want to lock. I have had that problem aswell but didn't think it was needed to mention. But even if its mechanical it would be best to get another actuator from a donor car?
@@ericemens7710 I would definitely try and replace the actuator, yes. Your problem could be electronic as well, but most likely if the door is not locking occasionally, this could be the actuator starting to fail.
Hey there mate...i got a problem with my focus need help...the right back door is closed an i can't open it...i know the wire is off....can't take the door panel off cause i can't get to the screws....please help...what to do???
Hey Tommy, sorry to hear about your problem mate. I've never had this problem so I can't offer any expert advice. But try removing the back seat and see if that lets you get to the bottom screws. Otherwise some people have tried opening the door from outside, pulling on the handle reputedly, which they say can work sometimes. Other than that mate I'm not sure what else you can do besides cutting the door trim off. Sorry I can't be of any more help, good luck mate.

Merhaba arkadaşım. Benimkiyle de benzer bir sorunum vardı. Arabayı kilitlemek için anahtarı kullanırdım, ancak merkezi kilitleme hemen arabanın kilidini açardı. Daha sonra bunun nedeninin yolcu yan kapısının hiç kilitlenmemesi olduğunu gördüm. Böylece sürücü kapısı kilitlendi ve yolcu yan mekanizması kilitlenmediğinden, merkezi kilitleme tüm kapıların kilidini açtı. Daha sonra yolcu tarafındaki kapı kilit mekanizmasını değiştirdim ve şimdi her iki kapı da kilitleniyor. Bunun sorununuzu çözüp çözmeyeceğinden emin değilim, ama umarım yardımcı olur. Hangi kapı mekanizmasının kilitlenmeyeceğini bulmaya çalışın. Merkezi kilidi tüm kapılarınızın kilidini açmasına neden olduğunu tahmin ediyorum.
Bende de 2001 ghia'da surucu kapisinda problem var. Acarken anahtarla da otomatikle de hicbir sekilde acilmiyor. Sadece iceriden aciliyor. Kilitlemek isteyince de otomatik ise yaramiyor, sadece anahtarla kilitleniyor. Eskiden sadece hava cok sicakken bozuluyordu, yavas yavas komple bozularak bu hale geldi. Bunun disindaki diger kapilar + anahtardan otomatik cam kapamalari vs her sey calisiyor. Henuz fazla cozum arastirmadim.
