From park you push forward on the shift lever and it goes into reverse... literally took me 3 seconds to figure this out when i first got into this car.
Why so much hate here? Before you watch the video you already know Brian is presenting it. So if you don't like him don't watch CNet videos. I rate him highly. He certainly knows his cars.
this car is an absolute beast, to be honest everything about it is astonishing a tap on the throttle gives whiplash and the sound is fantastic. It's the second CLS i have owned i have it in a dark grey with a creme and black interior, best car i have ever owned, i hope i have answered your question
The CLS63 is amazing! This guy is biased. He just badmouths it, cause he feels like it. Here is my review of the CLS AMG. I have driven it, last summer. Got my hands on it for several hours for one day and then for a whole day the following month. Styling - brilliant! Aggressive, sleek and sexy. Interior - classy, elegant and you feel sort of at home. (A bit cramped in the back seats, but still manageable) Drive: Amazing power. Straightline performance is mindblowing! In the corners, she is tailhappy. Even with the ESP on, the car slides out a bit. But turn the dial to S+ and this car goes mental! Absolute beast, destroying corners, going sideways, possibly in a cloud of tiresmoke (I didn't smoke tires, but I definitely got her going sideways) The whole car feels alive! He says the gearbox is sluggish. That's only cause he doesn't understand Mercedes controls. S+, "Eco" button off and tweak the options in the Command unit and this car can give you a superb, exhilarating ride. The gearbox is actually blitz-fast and if you drive in a sporty manner, the car "remembers" you are driving sporty and keeps the revs up. As for the command. It's not as slow as the guy says. You can get it to lag, but you need to skip through functions like crazy. Not being familiar with something doesn't make it bad. It makes you look rubbish, for not knowing what your doing and not having the proper research. Verdict: Brilliant car, biased tester
megadriver6 Very true -- that V12 is amazing, as with the new S-Class in general! But, even that likely won't do 0-60 in under 3.2 seconds (C/D test for CLS63 AMG S) due to weight. But, I'm a Mercedes-Benz and AMG enthusiast so I love them all! It really is a great car. If you look at the performance, luxury, and the number of doors, it can't get any better. Also, I like Cooley (I think he's a great reviewer), but he doesn't get this car (along with many other MBs). CNET is sort of biased against MB and towards Audi.
Just because someone have a different taste than you doesn't necessarily mean they're biased. I in fact much prefer if different reviewers have different opinions. Keep in mind that this reviewer has tested hundreds of different cars for god knows how many years so his opinion on this car is most likely based on the performance of this car compared to other cars.
Is this one good for a daily day driving, I know the guy said that it was good for long trips but, I wonder if the sound is too loud, what do you think?
If you actually listen to what he says, he actually does criticize this car and gives his personal opinion of aspects of the car. I don't want to watch a review that is exactly the same as one I can watch at C&D. Some people actually want to know that some parts of a car bothers a person, so when time comes to buy one, they can look out for it and see for themselves.
Here he says you'd never guess this is based on an E-class because it's so different... and yet in the CLS550 review (same car different engine) he said the CLS is very E-class in its presentation..? it's the same car!
No he doesn't... can't even figure out how to get into gear. The transmission does not work the way he described; you can go directly into drive OR reverse from park by pushing up or down past the detent.
just because its a Mercedes and just because its an AMG or because of its price does not mean you cant give a negative remark about this car it is only a car there will be better cars that come along its nothing special.
No freeze and without HD... Front engine, 4K plus pound car, definitely not gonna corner too well. Most of the viewers are to broke for Mercedes to care though, this a a Rodeo Dr car.
Only the the mercedes big boys are good , the smaller models arent that nice , i fully understand what your going through , with the money you paid you could have bought a dodge charger srt8 with 470 horsepower and fly around town , check it out .
Brian I really like your reviews, but seriously you complain about the absolute most minute things... It just makes me roll my eyes. A lot of the App suite things are for use when you are stationary! I watched your review of the 2014 S550 and you just made yourself sound like a tool. You gave it some kudos but honestly you never sound like you're really impressed with any car. Why so hostile? The gear level is absolutely easy as cake. I use it on the E63 and it takes no neurons so I think your comment there really isn't necessary. Again, you do a great job voicing your personal likes mostly dislikes, but how about so more kudos.
Cooley tries to think of what people who will drive the car every day might dislike which is important since once you buy a car pet peeves can make it an unbearable experience. I can appreciate Cooley's approach but to those who don't it can rub them the wrong way.
Great review of the car interview . Please NO (drum noise) or music on background .(that generate nervosas , instantly decrease interest on the vid) Thanks .(hoping that you'are considering ...''not ignoring'' the audience advise)
disagree about what? everything i just said is a 100% fact. the shitty overstated mileage, the terrible entertainment system, and the joke of a transmission they put into the C and E class. the C63, a 70K sports car, doesn't even get a dual clutch transmission. my 50k mercedes doesn't core with remote start. not even as an option. not even with mbrace! maybe germans do make cars that really do work well, like you say. but i'd probably have to pay over 100k for such a beast.
I'm sorry Mercedes, but once you added awd to the AMGs like the E63 and upcoming CLS63, you lost me. Plus, recent new Mercedes cars are ugly to me (excluding the SLS)
I'm frustrated with this car just watching the video because I can relate when he points out of the MB's faults. The transmission is too slow to change gears (as with every automatic Mercedes over the last decade) and the infotainment interface is THE WORST (slow, poor graphics, non-intuitive). My family has had a Mercedes in the stable for the last 10 years and they have never fixed any other their "problems."
