ABOUT SIMMPLE ENOUGH
Living simply is all about taking back the controls of your life. No more wasting your time, mind, and money. Happiness and freedom aren't down the road for you, they're right here and right in front of you. It has forced us to admit that life doesn't HAVE to be overwhelming, stressful, or a never ending blur of work, home, work, home, McDonald's happy meal.
This channel documents our journey, as a couple, at decluttering our life and taking control of our happiness. We share Moniques Car Life experience, our journey to becoming debt free, our process of saving money to buy an RV, to eventually purchasing our own land. How we cried, laughed, and tried again. So tune in. But more than anything, enjoy a really good story about love and living.

I thought the same thing. I can't stomach throwing away money to a landlord. Rent goes up every year. Im not married, no kids so I live in my Prius. Just took a 2 week trip to Arizona to see the Grand Canyon. I have money in the bank and the 1st of the month holds no significance anymore LOL

I've been living in my car in London, UK since September 2017. I was only intending to do it for 6 months as I had just sold my house and was looking to purchase another within that 6 months. THE SHOCK.... The shock I had was a very pleasant one. After the initial 2 weeks; the easing in period I call it, I wondered why I had never done this before and to my astonishment the amount of money I saved by doing so. I didn't do it to save money as I had money from the sale of my house, but it showed me just how much money I had been wasting. My mind became clearer as I was no longer staying up watching rubbish on the television - when you live in your car you really have to work to a routine and I feel much better for that alone. I could go on and on, but I'll quickly finish with... when I sold my house as a treat to myself from the equity I purchased a brand new car, not with the intention of living in it, 3 and a half years later I am looking to trade my car in for another brand new car and still have no intentions of buying a new house.... furthermore, not one person I know realises I've been living in my car. I am a 61 year old car dweller.

Wow, such an inspiring story. Thank you for sharing ♥️. I feel similarly. After living in my car for 1.5 years and realizing how much money I used to spend on unnecessary things, I absolutely cannot imagine leasing another apartment & paying insane utility bills. Moosa & I do hope to buy land and build a home, but we want to pay cash (no mortgage payments!) and be off grid as much as we can to keep bills low. Until then, I’m genuinely content living in my vehicle. Thanks again for the comment!

I really wonder why the car industry hasn't made a car designed exclusively for living in? Not an RV, those are expensive and HUGE...I mean a regular car designed (with/or without a front seat, bed already in there - plus other daily living items built right into the car (already)! Every time I get in my "normal" car I immediately think that there is no place for my purse, for my packages, for my woman-self needs. Car manufacturers would make a lot of money selling "Car homes" for everyone who doesn't want to waste money on rent. Combine that with an electric car - think of all the design possibilities! We don't just drive in our cars...some people might want to live in their car. This is an important market that the car companies are missing out on big time.
@simmpleenough
@simmpleenough 3 года назад
I agree!! I often wonder the same thing. Car Life isn’t as popular as Van Life, yet, but maybe if this lifestyle continues to grow car manufacturers will try to tap into the market.
@dollhouseq1530

same. They will save people who may not or dont want to afford renting/owning homes. it works with us traveling freelancers too .
@carthisan

Maybe because it would get rid of a large swathe working class people which the economy needs for labour to ensure corporations continue to profit. They don't want to start persuading people to become middle or upper class, money is enough of a motivator. Also they pretty much already do with SUVs ❤️📈
@cragcat5158
@cragcat5158 2 года назад
I love the idea but I think they would have issues because people who are living in cars (at least from my experience) can’t buy new cars so the market for selling them new would be near non-existent.

Too funny! You were forced into an apartment. I’m so used to hearing people are forced to live in their cars because of hard economic times. Interesting your family thinks it’s not normal. But normal for most Americans is spending 60% of your income on housing & what’s left goes to other bills. lol, that’s normal. Do what gives you peace Jana.

A little cocoon, safe and snug. It really shows that we don’t need much to be content. I relate to the need for anonymity, I don’t like nosy people, as I’m not a busy body, and I despise judgements traits, it’s become a social norm, evident during this pandemic. @ 6:11 there should be another one on the opposite side. It's supposed to have a mesh netting that, in a perfect world, would keep your groceries from sliding all over the car. I really like your stewardship and wise useage of your space. I discovered the rubber lining stuff when I started working in the cafeterias at my kids school. I love how you can cut them, how you can use them to open jars, so many uses. Just a little strip does wonders. Great video! Thank you for taking us along😊

You should buy a black curtain from the dollar store just to throw over your stuff in the trunk so people will not see everything from outside to steal it when you park and leave your vehicle. Get window tints as well so nobody can see the interior from outside. Covering everything will prevent theft. Out of sight out of mind

I take no pleasure in its maintenance or permanence. I want to do this before I get too old to do it. I've been also living in my car for 8mths now....I made a bed in the backseat with alot of cushion and pillows..I put up reflectors at night so noone can see inside........I am short so it comfortable for me in the back seat to lay all the way down... I take showers and workout at a 24hr gym before I go into work....I'm fine with it....I also use the yeti generator to keep the car cool during the summer months or rent extended stay for 6mths until fall

I am so glad that I found your channel you are so incredibly helpful and not to mention that cooking is a non-negotiable for me as well. Love that fridge I put it on my wishlist bec my 15L Alpicool isn’t going to accommodate prepping or the fact I make my own nut milk & fresh seasonings. The bed is quite clever I haven’t seen that and I’ve seen at least 1000 videos with cars & minivans specifically. I’ll also checkout the cooking channel didn’t know you had one tks for mentioning it. Love your setup the best I seen ever. I live in my car too and have same gas stovе, 15L fridge, laptop but no power box only using car battery and lighter socket and just buying heavy duty huge battery every 12 months for $150-$200 it's still a fraction of yearly household power bill
@simmpleenough

That’s smart and I agree that spending $150-$200 a year on power is nothing compared to a years worth of rent and utility bills!

@@simmpleenough I also have 80W folable solar panel that I bought long time ago that saved me from flat battery to start the car twice already after just 45min sun charging my flat battery would then start the car and now my next goal is to install new more powerful battery the so called stop/start battery and to buy 200W solar blanket that can be folded very compact and I can then just run my fridge ice cold while recharging battery at same time parked somewhere in nature park for few hours as the 200W blanket with MPPT inbuilt smart controller can feed up to 12A of power into the battery, so far I normally idle my car for 10min and that would charge the battery quite a lot as I measured with voltmeter the car alternator charges the battery with 30A in first 10min and after that alternator gets hotter and drops to about 8Amps charging so in winter when it's cooler the charging is much faster than in summer time also summer heat is bad for any type of batteries and I live in Australia it's summer now

My lease ends in April of next year and I’ve made up my mind not to renew when the time comes and instead transition to moving into my car to help me save for a camper van. Your setup is one of the best I’ve seen!
@simmpleenough
@simmpleenough 3 года назад
That’s awesome! I’m happy you made the decision now, so you’ll have plenty of time to get ready for the transition. Be sure to practice living in your car, so it’s not such a shock the first night of your actual move in. Once my car was fully converted, I started practicing by sleeping in my car in my apartment complex parking lot. Then I’d practice in other parking lots. I still cried the first real night I lived in my car, lol, but it would have been worse if I hadn’t practiced. Good luck and thank you 😊!

@@simmpleenough Thank you so much for the tips! Now that I’m reaching the end of my lease, I must admit that I’m a bit underprepared due to feeling overwhelmed that I’m actually about to dive right into living in my car, but I’ve been contemplating this lifestyle for years and if not now, then I’ll never know if I don’t try. Feeling really nervous with a week left until I officially make the transition but excited as well with the uncertainty of it all. Your videos have been very helpful and inspiring to me watching your journey to help with the transition.

We have a large self converted van. You have everything we have, just smaller and with less space. I am very impressed with your setup. I had some questions but they were answered in the comments. I also like that I saw your fire extinguisher, some people don’t show it or have it in their garage. Are you scared sometimes and are you safe? I am a new subscriber and look forward to seeing future videos. Good luck and stay safe🙏🏽
@simmpleenough
@simmpleenough 3 года назад
Thank you very much 😊. I was really scared at first! I cried the first few nights sleeping in my car and began doubting my decision. Every time the wind blew I jumped up, thinking someone was trying to break in, lol. I started to feel like a failure for being a grown college educated woman living in her car. I think it’s normal to have some negative thoughts after making a huge life change that many people don’t understand or agree with. Eventually I got over it by reminding myself why I was doing this. Reminding myself of the money I would be saving and the debt I would no longer have. I reminded myself that this was a good decision, even if no one else in my life believed so. After mentally pep talking myself, I felt much better! I don’t feel scared for my safety anymore because I’ve found a nice area to sleep that is safe and I remind myself that, contrary to the news media, the world isn’t full of people trying to rob or kill me. I try to make sure I’m not noticed & if I feel someone has noticed that I’m sleeping in car every night then I’ll find a new place to park. I take other precautions, as well. I’ll make a video about this once I start filming videos again. Thank you for the support!
