Getting alot of comments that people stopped getting notifications of new Car Wizard videos coming out. Talked to a few other RU-vidrs and found out that RU-vid is now taking you out of the notification loop if you miss out on multiple videos in a row. Make sure you guys watch every video, so they dont take you out of the loop. Outside of my control. Sorry guys!

The gas station octane numbers are different because they represent different values. 98 octane in Europe is comparable to 93 in the US, 95 in Europe is equivalent to 91 in the US. This is due to Europeans displaying the RON number (Research Octane Number) and Americans displaying the average of the RON and MON (Motor Octane Number).
@atodaso1668
@atodaso1668 Год назад
Doesn't the US have 85 octane in some places?
@jowarrior
@jowarrior Год назад
Yes 85 is available in some states mostly in high altitude locations like Colorado, Utah, Montana etc. but for most states the regular is 87 octane. The reason why there is 85 in high altitude has to do with the lower air density making knock to be less of a problem with lower octane rated fuel. It’s also cheaper.
@balkanca

We have those same yearly safety inspections in Finland and they are pain in the @ss for old car owners. Everything must be spot on. If something doesn't meet the rules you have 4 weeks to fix it and show it again. If you ignore it your car is illegal to drive in public roads.Police have the database and automatic licence plate readers so you will get in to trouble really fast with car what didn't meet the inspection rules and owner ignored it. If police catches you they will take off your licence plates and it's time to call taxi because at that point car is out of the road.

There are two different laboratory test procedures to measure octane in gasoline - the Research Octane (RON) method, and the Motor Octane (MON) method. Most countries use one or the other, the United States uses an average of both, which is called the Anti-Knock Index (AKI). Germany just uses RON by itself. AKI produces a rating about 4-5 lower than just RON alone, but the gasoline itself is exactly the same, just measured differently.

The GM made Opel I had was having more problems. Yes at some model years like in 08-12 they had oil leaking issues but those are long fixed. All manufacturers have their own issues.
@BigBearBjorna
@BigBearBjorna Год назад
Ya sometimes it feels like car wizard has an agenda against alot of german cars. This is just anecdotal information, but While i would say german cars as a whole are not excellent in terms of durability, Ford, GM and Chrysler are not any better. My friends families has had a few american made cars and i cannot say they are any better according to their experience. They are big gas guzzlers that do not offer anything special in terms of reliability. We have had a few germans (mostly Audi) and they’ve been better or the same in terms of durability. My first car will definetely be a European or japanese, even though american cars are great in alot of ways. I think people believe audis are unreliable because they cost alot to fix in the USA. That analogy could also explain why American cars are not seen as reliable in Europe, as they are more expensive to buy and fix here. If a repair cost is more, people will believe the damage was more severe, even if that may not be the case.
@betterbeavailable
@betterbeavailable Год назад
@@BigBearBjorna Exactly. I don't think Audi, BMW and Merc are pinnacle of reliability but that doesn't mean they are noticeably bad in general. I only have positive things to say from Audi and BMW I've owned. If they have spotless maintenance record then I wouldn't expected major problems. I don't know if Americans neglected maintenance or what's the deal but it is important to change oil regularly especially in small displacement turbo engines. I like Wizard but he has a vendetta against German cars which is very unprofessional.
@BigBearBjorna
@BigBearBjorna Год назад
@@betterbeavailable Pretty good experinces here too. i like audi alot, atleast from my experience. My dad has had his A6 TDI through 210.000 km, and while it has had its first few problems recently, it has been nothing major. My friends dad had an A4 that he sold at like 350.000km, which the new owner drove like 60.000km more before scrapping it. My friend recently picked up an old A6 from his grandma and while it has been driven very litely and has been maintained extremely well (basically only 10.000km on average per year) it is crazy how the car is in such great shape after 23 years and 200.000 km. The gear box is smooth as butter and the suspension and clutch feels great. like a new car Almost except for the rust. It is a gas guzzler though with the 2.4 V6 but it is great in every other way. My first will be something like a Volkswagen Golf 1.9 TDI, slow but apparently reliable and quite fun.

Actually this was mandated in the Clean Air Act of 1970 by federal law, to take effect for 1975 model year and later cars. Per the Clean Air Act, states can have HIGHER standards than federal law, but cannot have LOWER than federal standards. Per this law, California will generally not emissions exempt any car newer than a 1975, regardless of the twenty-five year federal importation rule which allows importation of non-North American, non emissions compliant cars as long as they are at least twenty five years old. California will NOT honor this exemption if the car is newer than a 1975 model.

One thing to be mindful of on sales/value addes tax comparisons is the overall mix of taxes. In th US sales taxes are typically state and local with income taxes federal. States also tax income. One reason why a straight exhange rate price comparison from the local perspective gets tricky across countries. Relying on income taxes makes the prices look lower vs relying on VAT.

up here in canada we use the $/L for fuel as well, $2+ is pain lol up here in alberta we got close to it last year with all the ukraine nonsense but since then its bounced around $1.10/L to $1.50/L i miss my high school days years ago when it was like $0.86/L those were the days

@@mysteryman447 How does it get to $2/L? Most oil products barely still cost 1$/L in most countries. In Europe all the rest is tax.
@mysteryman447

@@rkan2 well other provinces can have as much as 3x the gst as alberta but we don’t refine our own oil products and when the global market shot up our costs for refining did too, we really need to invest in our own refineries

Very cool to get the perspective of someone who lives in a place with very different laws and practises. Shows how brutal it can get if there are _too_ many laws governing things.

I encourage people to think of "regulations" as "protections" for the customers. If the gov regulates and says you have to give warranty, that's a protection for the consumer. It's less likely you'll end up buying beat up cars, for example, with their check engine light disconnected or covered with electrical tape.

Yearly inspection is really only about brakes, lights and safety functions. It makes a whole lot of sense in order to avoid accidents caused by technical failure.

@@Daemonarch2k6It was taken a loooong time ago... The only place in the world with true freedom is South Sentinal Island... Even then they had to cut off the world and seclude themselves without modern amenities just to keep it that way. Other than that freedom died with the rise of Capitalism and Communism.

But it's not cars that are causing climate change. It's coming mostly from industrial activity, power plants, methane emissions from agriculture, etc. Methane is 20 times more potent as a greenhouse gas. Co2 helps plants grow.

The Mercedes that are in scrap yards usually have the front end smashed in? When I was in Baden Baden they were all that way and difficult to source a front fender. Traded Canadian cigarettes for car parts 😊

Hi. Lovely work as always. Just one point, the 456 transitted Dubai briefly enroute from Japan. I don't think it was even registered in the UAE. The works done on it here were so-so but the issues originated in Japan. These kinds of cars are usually not too popular here. Yes, the rich dudes who abuse cars exist, but they gravitate towards the latest and greatest. True collectors in the region give these cars the respect they deserve.
