Thanks a bunch for the tech video. My 914 came with the weber and was no bueno. Ended up getting a rebuild kit because the carbs are made in Spain and weren't available. Good job Jason.

Great videos !! I bought a 73 beetle with dual empi 34's and I had them adjusted good until I tried to "get them running better", now they suck and I was thinking about ditching them and getting a Weber progressive. Well after watching your video I realized that I forgot to pinch off the balance tube 🤦🤬 !!! So thanks for the reminder, I'll try it again.

Awesome! I really like dual carbs because you get a good balance of fuel economy and performance. Those progressives have always given me problems so I don't mess with them.

Hey, any thoughts on the CB performance dual Solex carbs with chokes on them ??

I've never really played with them. I would think keeping the chokes synced would be a challenge. None of my dual carb motors have chokes and they seem to do fine, even in snowy weather. You already get more fuel so other than a few seconds of light pressure on the throttle they warm up on their own just fine.

For the big Webers, do you still turn the screw a half turn in after you find the highest idle or is that only for the small webers?

@mdecoma yes. The manual says to go back in a 1/2 turn. I usually stop when thebengine is running it's smoothest. As long as you're close it'll be fine. The goal is to get them all in the sweet spot so none of the cylinders are lean. That's how you burn a piston.

Hey Jason! Great video! I was curious, if you run a vacuum line to one carb and a balance tube to the other, would you have to clamp either off before balancing/adjusting? Thanks!

You wouldn't get a good vac reference from one carb. If you ran a balance tube you would definitely need to pinch it to adjust them.

I have dual kadrons on a stock 1500 single port baywindow. Seems simple for tuning good video. Other videos i saw they pinch the balance tube, and they use a floating ball thingy on top of carb. Is that needed for kadrons?

You definitely need to pinch the balance tube when tuning. I use a pair of needle nose vice grips with fuel line on the jaws. The "uni-syn" tool is good for getting the flow right. It can be hard on a bus, especially with Kads because of the air filter mount. I've been doing it by ear for a long time and haven't had any issues. If it sounds smooth and revs evenly they're good.

Yes. Start with a warm engine and the screws at baseline settings. With the engine idling, turn the AIR screw IN 1/4 turn at a time until the idle slows down or gets rough. Then turn it out 1/4 turn at a time until you reach the highest idle. Move to the other side and do the same. Repeat the process a few times for the best result.

Start with the AIR screws on the outside of the carbs. With the engine warmed up slowly turn them in one at a time until the idle drops. Then turn them out slowly until you get the highest RPM. Repeat on all 4 until the idle changes with a 1/4 turn in or out. That should b pretty close. If it's still rich you may need to play with the jets or check the fuel pressure.

Hot can mean it's running lean, or the timing could be off, or the valves could be tight, or low on oil. Or the oil cooler is clogged up.

Thanks Jason, you should get rid of the background music. Also, it would be so much more helpful if would learn and use the proper names for each screw and part you are referencing. When saying “ thingy, this part here, screw “ and then repeatedly using that terminology for all referenced parts, it becomes terribly difficult to follow without replaying the video over and over.
