Excellent video and easy to understand. However, my instructor said in class that BNP is actually produced by the ventricle cardiomyocytes, not the brain. Thanks for the video.

Very helpful stuff Michael! Thank you so much for your teachings. Few questions, Does the stroke volume used in the calculation of cardiac output take into account aortic valve regurgitation? What is the stroke volume if the left ventricle pumps via aortic valve 80ml during systole and receives back 10ml because the aortic valve leaks during diastole? Is the SV 80ml or 70ml? and what the cardiac output would be if the heart rate is at 70 bpm?

Pre-Load is equal to EDV. (the amount of blood that enters the ventricle following ventricular diastole) After-Load is dictated by MAP. As arterial pressure increases, the ventricle has to work that much harder to reach and exceed the pressure of blood within the aorta. If the ventricle is unable to match &/or exceed the pressure in the aorta, then the semi-lunar valve at the LV entry point to the aorta will not open. This increased resistance/lack of CO is what leads to pulmonary edema, decreased EF, and potentially cardiac arrest if left untreated.
