What a half-expert show. Waterlily is a singular word, for one. Second, only hardy waterlilies grow horizontally, tropical types grow upward and you plant them differently in the container. I couldn't BELIEVE that he was planting the rhizome (not a tuber) in DRY soil! All kinds of issues to follow with that. BTW, waterlilies LOVE being planted in heavy soils that are rich in well-rotted cow manure. Manure IS organic matter...

@0:10 the video says, this is a hardy water lily. the option of growing medium is different from all these videos, with so many reasons given in every video. it's up to the viewer to take up all that info and find the right one for him.

@@davidwonder3633 The way that you use bricks and in what way it works great. Do you fashion a container from them instead of using a pot, do you crush them up and use them instead of the low organic soil, do you use one instead of a rock to weigh down the tuber, do you just put bricks in your pond instead of water lilies?

@@SorenCicchini get a container or bucket whatever but a few bricks than the roots and cover with bricks water can easily pass trough the roots but sunlight and fish cant get to them

In order to find out how many lily plants I would need , how much it many pads could a person expect from one potted plant like you had or tuber?

it's not about # of pads but about average width that the lily plant grows. if your pond is 20 feet and the lily variety you pick grows average 5 feet across, then you will want 4 of the lilies if you want to cover the length of your pond.

Hi I have tiny leaves that grew on top of one water Lilly leave that I had cut off of plant .My problem is it has no roots on the the tiny leaves growing out from center of water Lilly I cut and no roots have transformed.Can I still plant this with no roots the leaves are only half inch big there tiny

I have a pond still in progress but want to get water lilies now.The pond may not be completed before next Spring.Can I use your method and just plant lillies in a drum of water outside through the winter, then transfer them to the pond when it is finished?I am in zone 7B I just want the water set up with plants that are thriving before adding koi Thank you.

I bought a tuber (nymphaea sioux) and it has one main growing tips, but about 4 other smaller ones along the tuber. Should I plant it so that most of the growing tips are exposed or should I cut them off and just leave the main large one?

gravel and lilies are not good together though neither are koi with lilies or other pond plants. Use some prerinsed lava stone but not much, it will irritate the kois mouth and they should stop ... prerinse so the pond isnt red.

Don’t dig them? Don’t ever steal plants from the wild, it ruins the ecosystem.

Just take some leaves from it. Those leaves will grow into a new plant.

Great info. Any suggestions on how to keep koi from destroying plant? My koi brushed away all of the gravel and nibbled the tuber to death - and really fouled the pond water along the way.

They use the pots so the plants don’t spread any farther, like for smaller backyard koi ponds. If you have a big pond and you want it to spread just plant in the bottom of the pond. I just put 2 in my new pond and I want them to spread, so I took them out of the pots and just stuck them in the bottom mud enough to hold them down.

@@TheFrogfeeder here we are 11 months after I posted this. I did take 7 water lily's out of their pots, wrap the root ball in burlap, and just pitch it out into the deeper, and shallower water. they did well last summer and have returned this spring, (so winter did not kill them.) However a muskrat did dig up and kill most of one of the plants.

Use coarser gravel or river stones that are too big for the koi to easily move about on top of the pea gravel. You can clarify the pond by throwing gypsum (clay breaker) powder on the surface of the water and waiting a couple of days for it to settle.

Because pH of your soil is low. Try clay or add lime to your soil.

The lily pad floats so it can receive more sunlight, just like how a tree grows upwards. Also, in nature, you wouldnt see a single lilly.. there would be dozens of them, maybe hundreds. Also, it would be in relatively still water.

green water is caused by too many nutrients and light in the water. The video people need some more plants for adequate filtration and might want to not overfeed the fish.

its how they evolved. so frgbits completely floating gre in places where uprooting was rife by nature. buyt lilllies maybe grow in really quiet still places. so they dd not need to use naturak sekection, to get free floating roots

It's best to use water on land to plant your lilly. Use gravel to weigh down your water in the pot. Basically the opposite of this video. It helps if you're doing a handstand whilst adding your gravel on top of the water.

OK EVERYONE WHO KNOWS THIS PLEASE TELL ME! You know that plant that has a big curved leaf that the top is resisitant to water? I think it's a vietnamese plant but i just cant find the name! It's on land not water. I know its a water lily but a diffrent kind, PLEASE HELP!
