A little correction Henning, the HDB MK3 is HandMade in Denmark just like the rest of the Pro-Series, CM has nothing to do with Harley Benton BTW. Soren. on behalf of Carl

Pretty good. You gig with 2 15w valve amps? Handy. I use 1 5w Blackstar or 1 18w Hughes & Kettner Tubemeister with either a 1X12 or 1X15 Lorantz and Yamaha/Sammi speakers.

Hi there. Love your vids!! I have a question that is bugging me. I am just after getting a new Carl Martin Hot Drive N Boost Mk III and absolutely love it!!! I am just curious is there a difference between the new 2016 9v DC/DC and the old 12v that Carl martin have released. I am wondering would there be a better sound and headroom from the old version that has the 12v mains built into it? This is what Carl Martin have released:New power requirement's since January 2016. Carl Martin now have a 9vDC/DC circuitry that delivers internally +-12V regulated. Unit’s built before January 2016 comes with a built in mains power supply either in 100 or 115 or 230 VAC50/60 Hz, that deliver internally +-12V regulated Power consumption: 2,4Watts.Would be great if you could do a side by side comparison of the old 12v Vs the new regulated 9v. Thank You :)

according to Carl Martin, there is no difference... I don't think they would have done it if it changed the sound!

It seems the new Harley Benton pedals look very much like these Carl Martin ones. Do you think they might have been built in the same factory? I mean Carl Martin is made in China no?

Cheguebuddha Yes, the CM are being made in china, but I don't think they have anything to do with the HB pedals.

+EytschPi42 Are you sure the Pro Series are made in China ? I believe the Pro Series are made in Denmark and the Vintage Series are made in China. Even without having the pedal, you can check that on the user manual (last page) "HandMade in Denmark " >> carlmartin.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/manual-hot-drive%C2%B4n-boost-mk3.pdf "Made in China" >> carlmartin.com/wp-content/uploads/2013/12/manual-classic-chorus.pdf

It's not about how this sounds with your guitar, but how it sounds with my guitar. Ditto with the amp - I'm tired of pedal reviews that are done with overpriced boutique equipment that the majority of us can't afford and wouldn't waste our hard-earned income on. Unless the point is to sell this to the top 1%, in which case this isn't worth my time.

+slappappy1 How am I gonna demo this with your guitar? I don't know what you play... I don't have your amp, your cab, your mic, your preamp... this will all sound very different if you mix up the components... do you play like me? My finger do a lot of the work. The guitar is really not as much of an issue as you might think. I also use guitars for 250 Euro and get that sound. What some of the Carl martin demos in this series and you'll see me play a guitar that will cost you 250 Euro. What matters is the genreal idea of the pedal and wether that appeals to you or not... you'll get out of the pedal what you get out of it... it will sound different no matter what guitar I use.

you can't unless you use off-the shelf equipment, such as a Fender guitar and amplifier. This is what most RU-vid reviewers use. For the record, I do my testing on a stock Fender Tele through a Fender amp (currently a Blues DeVille with 4-10s) using various settings from clean through "brown" throgh OD and such. This way the user can judge the pedal tones thorugh readily-available equipment, just as if the player walked into a music store and used stock demo equipment. You don't do reviews on boutique-custom equipment because it tends to color the audio results.

+slappappy1 a Tele and a Fender Amp might be more common, but they can still sound different than another Tele... and in the end, you are going to sound very different with that same gear than I will.... and a Tele is not the best choice for every pedal... these videos can never be a scientific way of testing gear. They should get you interested... then you go into a store and try for yourself. I can take a Tele and a Fender Amp and sound vastly different than you do... we all have a different approach to the instrument and in the end you have to try it for yourself. RU-vid demos of guitar gear are not a scientific way of testing gear. and I have had so many comments that said: Use Humbuckers.... because I used single coils.... and the other way around, which is why the Quenzel is a great guitar because it does not well... if I sued a Fender people would scream for a Marshall. there is not right way to do it... there is only your personal way.

the operative phrase is "off the shelf". Granted that all your points about how great our equipment may or may not be (which is irrelevant at best because we agree to disagree) the issue remains whether the true sound of an effect is the product of equipment that the consumer can relate to. You don't really have to defend your choices (nor I mine as I have over 40 guitars and over a dozen amps in my collection to choose from) but a review should be about the pedal and not about the test equipment - which is why I recommend "off the shelf" equipment.

Fuck me a review online to myself gives me an IDEA of a pedal and if I like what I hear, I then go to somewhere why I can try it out first hand, I’d never expect anything to sound exactly like I’d heard on a review online as we’re all individual and have different gear in our setups so my tone is always gonna be different as I have my own guitars, amps, pedals, leads, connectors, PSU’s which will all change the tone is some way. Anyone who thinks a pedal should sound exactly the same as they’d heard online on a review is greatly wrong and doesn’t understand the overall dynamics of sound production. You use what you want to use and let Henning use what he wants whether it’s boutique or budget and you get on with your life and let him get on with his and his way of doing things.

Yes if u really like it and have the cash to spare by all means :) But that's why I said "imo" :p To me it is very expensive for the sounds and possibilities you get with this pedal. Great demo as always though !!!
