Dear Bartje, I must reluctantly correct your description. This is not the English Chamber Orchestra, a modern-instrument group who made many recordings under Barenboim, Leppard and others. This is The English Concert, a period-instrument orchestra founded by harpsichordist Trevor Pinnock in the 1970s.

It's incredible how you can hear the baroque style and the classical style that was starting to this new musical period

@@Whatismusic123 This music is absolutely *not* galant; look up the words empfindsamer Stil, and Empfindsamkeit. (If you want to know what galant is, try almost anything by CPE’s half-brother JC Bach).

I agree. That Haydn and Mozart learned a lot from CPE doesn't mean that he's in between the baroque style and the classical one. It's empfindsamer Stil, and it's unique; not even a forerunner of the romantic style.

@@EdoardoFittipaldi You’re essentially correct, but don’t equate the influence of CPE Bach on Mozart and Haydn as being the the same thing which they absolutely were not.* 1. Haydn only ever acknowledged CPE as a mentor; in return, CPE went into print to defend Haydn from some attacks in the North German press, and later told Haydn that he was ‘…the only composer who understood my teachings properly and knew how to make use of them’. 2. The Versuch** excepted, CPE’s influence on Mozart is normally hugely overstated; in fact, the two composers have almost nothing in common. As *CPE Bach* is to Haydn, it is *JC Bach* who is to Mozart. * A common misapprehension fuelled largely by one very misunderstood quotation allegedly by Mozart that is invariably taken out of context thus rendering it meaningless. ** CPE’s manual on the true art of keyboard playing influenced everyone going forward from it’s publication in two parts in 1753 and 1762; it laid the foundations of modern - ie post-Baroque - keyboard playing, was the basis of all future manuals, and was still being used by Beethoven at the start of the next century.

Back in 1773, this style of music would’ve been considered a bit outdated. He still wrote neoclassical in a fully classical developed era. Maybe he still worked for the emperor of Prussia?

Sshooter444 It’s an interesting point to speculate what Mozart would have made of this highly original, spiky, fragmented, motivic, sensitive empfindsamer Stil music when he compared it to his own perfectly balanced and poised, lyrical, cantabile melodic style.

@Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky It was obviously a very simple but pertinent point I was making - in essence that the music of CPE Bach bears very little relation to anything from Planet Mozart; surely that’s not a controversial point.
@Zimzamzoom95
@Zimzamzoom95 3 года назад
@@elaineblackhurst1509 No, that is a very controversial point. A non-controversial point would be 'Mozart was greatly influenced by CPE Bach, who formed a large part of the foundation of his style'. Maybe you've been listening to too much late Mozart, because he was very grounded in CPE's galant style in his early compositions.

Bb w string instruments! Risky stuff, CEB. Love the Harpsichord concertos, something so innocent about having less instruments and less tone color. Surprised to not see the organ.

@Luis Muñoz maybe i have just been cursed with players of poor intonation! In my experience any key with an eb and beyond can be tricky for string players. Certainly Bb is not the worst, and even the best wrote for strings in Eb Maj and beyond.

@@dangelobenjamin As a violinist: yeah, no... F, Bb, Eb and Ab are fine. It starts getting tricky beyond that. Bb is super duper ultra common. So is Eb.

the key of b flat sits very nicely on the double bass, my instrument for about 35 years. i once composed a piece the harmonic logic of which required an excursion to C flat. now THAT made he players complain!!!!

Carl Philippe E. Bach a voulu comme recréer une ambiance vénitienne très vivante dans sa musique . Personnellement je n'apprécie pas vraiment , cela semble un peu surfait , très technique très bien écrit mais cela ne me touche pas .
