From the director of Scarface comes the critically acclaimed crime thriller Carlito's Way. Oscar® winner Al Pacino gives on electrifying performance as former drug kingpin Carlito Brigante, who is sprung from prison by his high-powered attorney (Academy Award® winner Sean Penn). He stuns the New York underworld by vowing to go straight from a history of violence, but his plans are undermined by misguided loyalties and an outmoded code of honor. In a life-or-death battle, Carlito takes on the relentless forces that refuse to let him go. Co-starring John Leguizamo and Luis Guzman, Carlito's Way is a powerful, action-packed ride all the way to its explosive conclusion.

I like how he calls the street "She" and "She's always watching," because in the Spanish language, the street is "La calle" and "La" is female. In Spanish, nouns are either male or female. So even though he's speaking English, he still retaining some aspects of his Spanish. :)

@MrB0gart who works the streets at night? women...pimps are always hanging around and the johns chasing p*ssy but it's women's world...woman is referred to for ships too...also the earth mother...charles manson I think once referred to the penitentiary saying 'she's the icebox'...fact is p*ssy is the boss of this world because most men will do anything to get into it...therefore his correlation between the street being a woman watching all the time underpins his understanding of woman being the real boss...also it must be understood that a sexy woman is often the cause of a man being beaten or robbed or killed and arrested and jailed...it's heavy karma...we all got here thru them and they are often the cause of a man's death...this scene is an example...benny could not just let stephie go...he had to push it but she jumped onto another guy like most women do if they look good and are getting male attention whenever they walk (this is why most attractive women are wh*res regardless of their work or how much money they have or how rich or good looking their boyfriend or husband is)...this scene is the most unbelievable of the whole movie...it was absolutely the right thing for benny to be killed and carlito fcked up and then he loses his life because of it at the end of movie before he can escape with his dream woman...if we look deeper we see carlito eventually dies because of a wh*re (stephie) and more directly dies because of not killing benny (gangster) and he is with a good woman and heading to paradise which is out of character for him...reminds me of clint eastwood's dirty harry line "a man has got to know his limitations" meaning who to talk to and who not to...who to get close to and who not to get close to...who to trust and who not to trust...where to hang out and where not to hang out...men who do not know their limitations get into arguements or fights and accidents and wind up in hospital or murdered...these are serious words to live by...I am alive due to buddhism and knowing my limitations

I love the ending of the movie for a few reasons, but one of those is how it’s almost unintentionally comedic. Carlito is about to board the train and leave with the love of his life- only for Benny Blanco from the Bronx to come out of nowhere from vanishing earlier on in the movie, announces his presence in the most supervillain way possible, and shoots him. It’s like the ending to a really dark and hardcore sitcom- ‘Who Else but Benny?’ On a serious note though, love this movie. This and Glengarry Glen Ross are two Al Pacino movies that deserve more recognition.

That was an excellent film. I loved it. The man who played the nightclub owner was Jorge' Porcel, a popular entertainer from Argentina. One day several years ago i recognized him sitting in a wheelchair listening to a band playing music in the outdoor section of a popular shopping mall here in South Florida. There were tons of Latino people passing by and nobody recognized him but me. I asked him how he was , and he said he recently had an operation. A few years later i felt bad because i read that he passed away. Al was so great in this movie. So was a young John Leguizamo & Sean Penn. When Al portrays a character, whether fictitious or real, he always does a superb job. Hes incredible.

Being nice is one of the reasons he got killed. Too nice to his lawyer, too nice to Benny. Once the lawyer pulled the gun on Benny. Benny and the lawyer had to go. When the lawyer stole from the mob and got Carlito's in the mix the lawyer should have been served to the mob on a platter. Carlito's should have never been on the boat. Carlito's put himself in a position to be a victim. All that nice guy stuff made Pachanga lose respect for him. If Carlito's would have taken care of business his guys would have known not to play with him. He could have retired leave his guy set up to fill his spot. Pachanga's ambition got him killed. No way you humiliate and young up and coming by putting hands on him in public and walk away breathing from that.

Acting tour de force from everybody in this outstanding and much underrated movie. Pacino is fabulous. Why is this role of his so seldom mentioned among his finest achievements? You tell me. I've no idea. It's not pride or ego that kills Carlito. It's mercy. You could argue that he shouldn't have been merciful to Benny Blanco. But, we know from later in the film that Kleinfeld is willing to sell Carlito out to the DA on a drug deal he ASSUMED (but couldn't prove) Carlito did to invest in the club; Kleinfeld would have had a MUCH stronger case against Carlito if Benny had been murdered, considering all the witnesses. What actually killed Carlito was his trust in his friends - he was warned Pachenga had gone over to Benny Blanco's side, he was warned by Gail that Kleinfeld was a piece of ____ who would get him into trouble. Carlito refused to abandon his friends - one implicated him in a Mafia hit that almost killed him, the other gave away his boarding train details to Benny, who did kill him. "Friendship gonna kill you faster than a bullet."
