Millennial watching May 2023! Can’t believe that magic that was television and the talent that was Hollywood back then! Baby boomers had the best generation!❤
Comedy today sucks in comparison to this, carol and company. Really knew how to make us laugh and laugh , no show on television today can compare with the amazingly talented and incredible carol Burnette! I LOVE YOU CAROL ❤️♥️❤️♥️❤️
The writing of the title character's terrible family on *Bojack Horseman* makes me wonder if any of the writers were familiar with these sketches. Of course, he was "a poor little rich boy" but his parents were both walking nightmares. (No pun intended.)
Mama and this line about the cobwebs coming down and strangling her in the night......."I just say a little extra prayer at night and take my chances." #Priceless...I'm over here in tears! 🤣🤣
I remember watching these years ago & my mom & I laughing so hard because my grandma was "Mama" to a T. Everything but the hair color & southern twang. I believe these skits became like therapy for my mom, as laughing at Mama & family helped her deal with the way she was treated by her own mother all her life. My gram wasn't just emotionally abusive though- I learned years later that my grandmother was quite handy with a "switch" when it came to disciplining my mom. She went to school with welts up the backs of her legs as a child- back in the 1930's when the girls all wore dresses to school, so everyone saw them & knew what went on. Back then the schoolteacher wouldn't have dreamed of saying anything to anyone though. You didn't stick your nose in other people's family affairs. Through all the abuse, my mom still loved that mean old woman & cared for her til she died...all while trying to raise me alone (my dad died when I was 7), work a full time job, & keep a decent house. I'm so blessed that my mother did not carry on the "family tradition". My mom always made sure I felt loved & she backed me in whatever I wanted to do. She was a good gal & I miss her terribly.
I hear you. My mother was adopted of three nonrelated daughters to a childless minister and his wife. There was a lot of capital punishment. When I complained about how much shame and blame happened at family holidays she replied the person who can take the most sh*t wins. Okay. My absolute gave skit is merry Christmas momma!!!!! Our holidays were just like that
Very glad you ended up with a sensible mom.!!! Why perpetrate a ignorant and hateful attitude. If i would have been your mom, i would have gave given your grandma, the same attitude she deserved.!!!!
@@csmith5420 I Hope wind turbine syndrome wasn’t the one passing out the punishment, if they don’t know the difference between corporal and capitol. Lololol duh
Jesus, Daisy......do you really understand what a real "lockdown" means? YOU AND MILLIONS OF OTHERS BELIEVE WHAT YOU SAW ON TV, OR READ ON THE NEWS IS REAL. Corona means "flu". Okay? And every year we have the flu, and thousands of people die. THIS IS THE NEW 911. THERE IS NO PANDEMIC, ONLY A PLANDEMIC SUPPORTED BY BILL GATES WHO IS PUSHING POPULATION REDUCTION AND POISONED VACCINES. IF THERE REALLY WAS A PANDEMIC, THERE WOULD BE SICK PEOPLE AND BODIES EVERYWHERE. NEVER BELIEVE WHAT THE NETWORK NEWS SPEWS OUT. THE REGULAR FLU KILLS WAY WAY MORE PEOPLE THAN THIS COVID 19 HAS. LAST YEAR 1.8 MILLION PEOPLE DIED FROM TB, BUT THAT WAS NEVER MENTIONED ON THE NEWS. THIS IS A ''DRILL''. THEY WANT TO FUCK WITH US TO SEE THE FEAR, PANIC AND CONTROL THEY CAN DO. I NEVER STAYED HOME, I WENT OUT. NEVER WORE A MASK, ALWAYS ASKED FOR AN ''UNCLEAN CART''. I KNEW THIS WAS ALL BULLSHIT WHEN THEY CAME UP WITH A TERM 'SOCIAL DISTANCING''. FUCK THAT. AS SOON AS THE GOVT COMES UP WITH A TERM PERTAINING TO A SITUATION, THEN YOU KNOW ITS 100 % BULLSHIT. YOU ARE NOT ON ''LOCKDOWN'', YOU ARE JUST A VICTIM. GO OUT AND ENJOY WHAT FREEDOM YOU HAVE LEFT, BECAUSE IF THIS BULLSHIT CONTINUES, AND MORE PEOPLE GET SUCKED IN TO THE LIES, THEY WILL PUT YOU ON A REAL ''LOCKDOWN.''
@@Guitarman7133--Daisy, this man is a political ZEALOT! Do not listen to his paranoid rantings. This is not the Flu. COVID-19 is a new, & much more fatal virus. Covid-19 has already killed 100,000 Americans, & its just getting started. WE, all need to listen to the SCIENTISTS, & the DOCTORS around the world. IF, you want to stay healthy, & help stop the death of many elderly people, & people who have preexisting conditions? Then wear a face mask, & practice Social-Distancing, & stay at home as often as you can. Who knows how many people this fanatical, & self-aggrandizing man could have infected? If, he takes absolutely no precautions? He sounds like he might be a Paranoid-Schizophrenic, who is off his medications? Look what set him off on an OLD Carol Burnett episode of "Mama's Family". Rather odd wouldn't you say? It is becoming obvious to all of us that our president is not capable of handling this crisis. TESTING is what we need desperately at this time & he can't even accomplish this for the U.S. population. BTW, over the weekend 3 very young children died in N.Y. from some mutated form of COVID-19. We do not have any vaccines for this virus yet. As we do for the "REGULAR FLU"!
My god this hits so close to home. My aunt lived with my Grandma who was just like Mama. My aunt did absolutely everything for her - she never married, lived with her, and my Grandma never showed an ounce of appreciation. We hated going to visit our Grandma because she was so toxic. When I got older, I told her how ungrateful she was, and she told me, "She wouldn't be here if it wasn't for me. She owes me." Evil old hag... oh, my aunt's name is Eunice too.
Mama, Ed, & Eunice are the 3 stooges part deux. How in the world did Ed put up with these 2 for so long without going nuts? These episodes really make our day., thanks , YOU ROCK!
Went through the same hell when my grandma broke her leg. I was a jr. In high school and still feel the guilt and shame for hurting her feelings. She pitted daughter against daughter and grandchild against grandchild. I NEED AN AA MEETING JUST LISTENING TO THIS. LOL
Probably a lot of people had toxic parents who turned into a "Thelma." Poor Eunice could not get out of the downward spiral of her mother and her husband pulling her in. She could do nothing to please her mother no matter how she tried. Even the husband she picked was seen as a failure. Then Mama puts her on a guilt trip as her only way to soften the conversation.
My mother tried this earlier with me. My phone was off, and I was asleep. She's recovering from surgery, so she's in a wheelchair currently. Apparently, she had left me a message saying that my dog wanted outside and she couldn't do it because wheelchair, helpless, etc. Of course, when I woke up, he was sleeping beside me, so it must not have been too serious. She kept going on about it, though, and I was like, "Yes, I'm a horrible person for being asleep. Thank God I don't care."
It's my great pleasure that I have forgotten nearly everything I saw on this show so now I can enjoy them all over again! I swear I never saw this one before.
The Joy of The Carol Burnett Show is: I was in elementary school when it debuted on CBS, and in College when it ended. I remember all of "The Family" first runs. Most importantly, was how they could not hold their composure, we saw all of the facial expressions/body movements of laughter, especially when they were not supposed to be laughing.
I cracked up when mama tells Eunice while rolling her wheelchair "Oh well, I knew it was gonna come to this sooner or later, your aunt Fern took one look at you in the cradle and she said boy this one is gonna cause you nothing but grief and boy I'll tell you she was right"... Poor Ed, mama and Eunice abuses him like a school bully (lol)
These are just as true to life as they were back then. I used to love watching this on TV on the Carol Burnett show it was so funny. They really hit it on the nail with this show the characters are so true to life in American family's. Everyone has a family that is like this to some degree or another.
Reminds me of my grandmothers sister. Never married. I would volunteer to go pick her up for family gatherings. She would go down to the lobby an hour early and then complaining how I was late getting her.
If she made a habit of it, I would have gone two hours early and been like, "I've been waiting for you." I used to have a friend who was late for everything because of fussing over his hair, jewelry, etc. I started lying to him about the time. If we needed to leave at 8, I'd say 7:30, and we'd be 10 minutes early instead of 20 minutes late.
Luv these! So funny when Mamma called him a dumb cluck for buying Japanese Beetle rabbit traps and Ed said.." Did ya ever see a dumb cluck go crazy?" 😂😂😂
I was a tot when this came out but enjoy it all the same. Amazing how many people of different ethnicities can relate to these Momma skits they did. 11:51 My favorite part in this one. It never gets old hearing Carol's response to her momma. I've not advocating alcohol/drinking but I absolutely can relate to how she feels!
And I always understand Eunice because no matter the situation she tries to stand up for herself nicely, and is walked on all over by the people that should mean the most. I may be a middle child but I am not the one to let them walk all over me like they used to.
This is the funniest Carol Burnett show video of "The Family" skits I've seen thus far and I've viewed quite a few... Thank goodness for RU-vid because I wasn't even born when her show was on yet, I can enjoy these hilariously funny videos anytime and I certainly do... I know her TV show (and her awesome writers) must have won dozens of Emmy awards... I googled Carol Burnett, she will be 89 years old next month (April 26th the same day Lucille Ball died), she said "Lucille Ball was her biggest influence as a young woman breaking into comedy back in the late 1960s which at that time was dominated by men only... She's such a classy funny lady :)
LAtvFan -- A million thanks to you for posting these. I know I've thanked you before, but you deserve more than a million thanks for giving these back to us. It was a rare and unique time when these were produced -- thank God, and you for bringing these shows of comfort to us.
My favorite parts are Mama throwing the phone on the floor, and then as she's wheeling herself into her room Eunice shouts, "Watch out for the tarantula!!" Also, in the episode where Ed was going to Chicago, Mama brought up the Japanese rabbit traps, and Ed shouted, "Why don't you keep your rabbit trap shut!!" Thanks again for these, they really brighten up my day.
"My goodness this glass is sticky. Eunice will you please get me a damp cloth so that I can wipe off hands" LMAO! Mama complains about EVERYTHING! The bathtub was dirty the glass is sticky.....Good grief!
Honestly, when you look at the whole picture as it ends you see a slice of real life. The script, characters, plot, performance is just so unbelievably realistic. Stunning. Vicki doing the mama is so freaking convincing that you forget she was actually just 20-something in those clothes and grumpy attitude! Perfection is louder than loud here! Sad how the show slowly burned out just like real celestial stars. Things happen, we know but… seriously, it had to come to an end for the sake of both creators and artists. They had lives, you know! And mama lived on! 😄 The audience just wanted more of her. That lovable she was.. kinda reminds me of the fake character, Mrs. Doubtfire Robin Williams created in Mrs. Doubtfire movie. Everybody just loved her. 🤷🏻♀️
@@sydneyprescott3374 No family is perfect but these sketches sure make me appreciate my own family more, despite its flaws. (Which are also my flaws, of course. :D )
CB, VL, TC, and HK are all great at what they do. WHen they did these skits, we never missed them, because I knew we were going to get some laughs. Another thing I sincerely appreciated about all four of these actors is that they just acted, kept me entertained, and kept their liberal political views to themselves. JUST act, nothing else.
Momma is so much like my momma She wasn't grateful when we got her hundreds of dollars in groceries. She never said much how proud she was of my husband and how job he advanced in fast and made above decent money. All she did was both about what we got her when we got 2 of most things and the rest were extras on top of the long list she made. She was never grateful for much ever. And now she seems to be doing better.
Unfortunately, Ellen didn't completely break contact with her family. Eunice should have walked away from all of them at a young age also. Dysfunction. Dysfunction. Dysfunction! I know it's only a TV show, yet many live a real life this way.
theres a family skit where eunice and mama go to ellens house. eunice wants ellen to help out more with mama and ellen lets out some of her real feelings about her crazy crabby mother and in the series mamas family, mamas not quite so hateful but theres a couple episodes where shes very critical of ellen and her personal life after she and her cheating hubby split up. ellen was the fave, but she wasnt unscathed it seems by her abusive family. poor eunice got the worst tho, and like many real life situations its te most abused who can never get away from the bs and abuse till they or the abuser dies and by then theres no hope in fixing their lives. these skits are so funny, yet so sad and so close to home for many people.
👵🏻 “And that’s your fourth beer today!” 🍺 🍺🍺🍺 👩🦱 “And l’m gonna tell you something, l needed every one of them!” Ed was the best though with, “Did ya ever see a dumb cluck go crazy?!?” OMG, I almost choked on my coffee and fell off my chair and would have broken my own hip!
