I'm Irish in Ireland and I think Carol is someone who is going to bring back respect and dignity to the UK after the catastrophic last 14 years of Tory devastation.
As a volunteer for The National Trust I rest assure everyone that our passion and raison d'être is to teach others our history and heritage, warts and all.
@@johnmurray5573 Myself and every volunteer I've worked with across multiple sites and properties. Something the public don't realise is the vast, vast majority of historical research for The National Trust is done by the volunteers. They're not a 'woke army', they're ordinary people who understand and respect that the historical method is bunk if we pick and choose what we include in it to match our own sensibilities. Sometimes history is unpleasant and messy, but that makes it all the more interesting, informative, and compelling.

First class Carole. Since I found out about this 'organisation' a couple of year's ago I and my partner have been very careful to check which candidates are Restore Trust stooges and make sure that our votes do not go to them.
As Kathy Burke said “I’d rather be Woke than a c….” These people really are dreadful, long may the National Trist continue to be a happy and kind place for a day out with the kids…
The law must be changed so that these think tanks have to show exactly who is funding them. Also the BBC needs to stop giving them air time as if their opinions are equivalent to elected officials or industry experts.
Was it because a few members of the aristocracy wanted the taxpayer to pay for the upkeep of their family homes/land, while they lived somewhere else and let the plebs walk around the 'public areas'?
It`s the same in the US with Project Veritas. They are the exact opposite from "veritas," & it comes straight from the authoritarian & fascist propaganda playbook, where they say one thing & do the opposite. Accuse others of doing exactly what they are doing & use names for groups with words & terms like, truth, the peoples (group etc.), & other sham names.
Right leaning people seem to always be seeking praise for fixing a problem they caused while failing to actually fix it anyway. As often as not they make it worse and blame it on anything in their eye line. If a Tory was in a desert and stubbed his toe he'd take out his binoculars and find a distant camel to hold to account. When the Tories are in the right-wing fanatics all come out.
It was only broken in the eyes of a handful of regressive ignoramuses who felt they could make political capital out of a non-issue. Thankfully they're getting the response they richly deserve.
It's amazing how many people are just allowed to lie with no pushback. Just imagine what the news would look like if you had to disclose the funding source of your think tank employer before you were allowed on air.
What is more perplexing is that the BBC give them a free run on all the political / current affairs shows, not even describing them as right wing. If the culture secretary was looking for evidence of BBC bias, it is right there.
It's not just the BBC.. ITV, C4, C5, Sky news have them on pretty much every news show and GBeebies (and C5, when Jeremy Vine, Storm Huntley or Alex Conran fancy a morning off) have them hosting shows. Not once do they ever disclose the think-tanks they work for.
it has started a while back - they are out there - but the left wing options are barely funded. Novara media are awesome, this byline could be promising.

We are NT members and for the last three years, ever since Restore Trust appeared on the horizon, we've made sure to vote when the AGM comes around - we also actively seek out information about Restore Trust candidates for board membership and any of their AGM motions, in order to specifically vote against them. My wife and I visited Dyrham Park a few days ago - happy to note that the "colonial" source of money helping to fund the 17th century development of the property by William Blathwayt was highlighted to provide appropriate historical context?

I never knew about this. Carol Vorderman has a platform and the means (I would imagine) which she's worked hard for, to be able to do what she does, standing up to the greed and corruption that's damaging society. It can't be easy, but I think her moral compass is on point. So a big thank you from me to her for putting her head above the parapet, when she really doesn't have to.

Every year now I make sure my husband and I vote in the AGM of the Trust. I vote the way the board asks members to vote to keep these right wingers out of the Trust. It's an assault on something that looks after our shared beauty. It's quite scary to contemplate what they are trying to do.
Many of the think tanks refuse to divulge who runs , contributes and supports them , Not so long ago a council began operating a four day workweek for some of their services , apparently it was showing great improvements , Mr Michael Gove MP became involved and ordered the council to go back to a five day working week for all the services , it was later revealed that the ‘ Taxpayers Alliance “ had instructed Mr Gove to do this ? Mr Gove was and still is a prominent figure in the ‘ Taxpayers Alliance “ the Roundtree Foundation are one of the few think tanks that provide fully funded and accountable records , Mr Tice’s new outfit is a registered charity , think tank and is registered with companies house as a place of business , nowhere is it listed as a political party ,
Taxpayers alliance have done nothing to reduce taxes on the poor but funnily enough they try to do loads for the very rich to save taxes. They’re a ‘front’ for right wing headbangers and Koch/Mercer funded twonks.
They are clearly living in an alternate reality, "do gooder" is another insult 🤦🏻♂️ First sign of a televised church service and there they are, displaying their fake belief.
Oh they know alright. That's why they go to such efforts to redefine the meaning of woke as being something bad. They know they can't openly say they're anti gay, anti black, anti woman, etc, so they just label all minority representation and advancement as 'woke' and say they're against that instead.
I'm happy to be a member of the NT and vote against these crooks each year. I also support NTs efforts to document links to slavery, disallow hunting on their land, promote diverse membership and LGBTQ history, and to promote ecological land management and biodiversity.

It’s great that Restore Trust are being called out and exposed. What I really don’t get is why such a benign organisation like the National Trust is being targeted in this way. NT isn’t a political organisation after all. Any thoughts on why this is happening?
In 1907 Hunter drafted the first National Trust Act, which was passed by Parliament and gave the Trust the power to declare its land inalienable, meaning that it could not be sold WITHOUT PARLIAMENTARY APPROVAL. 😉😉
Developers want the land I would imagine. Like most of these so called think tanks like the ‘taxpayers alliance’ that seems to be for rich people not having to pay more tax and so on. All funded by big oil, arms and tobacco corporations. Nothing good comes out of these organisations and should be scrutinised minutely.
When it was first published, I held my nose and read their drivel from start to finish. I couldn't help imagining it being recited by that supercilious shyster Rees-Mogg; now that's become a recurring nightmare.

It's roots are much older than that. It started being used in african American communities nearly 100 years ago. It's became widely used during the rise of the BLM movement recently. The right jumped on it. They didn't invent it.
UK culture wars go back 40 years ago when Labour started yelling ''racist'' as socialism had imploded and collapsed into oblivion. It was a narrative borne out of sheer desperation. Something,..just anything to say and talk about. To give Labour purpose however poisonous and toxic it may be.

Been a NT member for many many years. Never bothered to take part in their elections until I heard about Restore Trust. Now always make sure my vote counts - to keep them out!
I unashamedly WOKE I believe in social justice redistribution of wealth with the wealthy paying their share. Fair wages for workers. I believe in diversity and tolerance and love.
I'm proudly woke too. When I look at the anti woke mob, it can be disheartening. But then I'm reminded that these people are basically just today's reactionaries. They are reinforcers of unjust hierarchies and cheerleaders for the status quo. And that shall be their undoing. In the past these types of people would've opposed the abolitionists, the chartists, the suffragettes, the civil rights movement etc. Every social justice movement throughout history faced opposition from people like them. Ultimately they always lose, and will continue to lose. Sure there are setbacks, progress is never linear, but on a long enough timeline... woke always wins.
I don't understand how any human being would not aspire to being labelled "woke". If I am judged not to be in any area, can I plead ignorance, and perhaps not yet having had the opportunity to experience and think things through. Woke is not an insult.

Brilliant video. I will note that at the start of the video, a clip from the separate National Trust for Scotland is used. The NTS is a separate organisation from the National Trust.
