The Carolina Hurricanes just destroyed the New York Islanders. We'll discuss all that and more as we continue to recap the 2024 NHL playoffs on today's NHL hockey video!
Isles fan here. I literally had to take a walk and call my Rangers friend to vent, and he actually felt bad for me, which you know is bad when even a Rangers fan feels bad. I feel so numb after this game.
You vented to a rangers fan? Are you crazy? You can’t trust them. He probably recorded you and is going to play it all over the internet for laughs. You can never trust Ranger fans, they’re almost as bad as Cowgirl fans.
@@jimmybuckets5863 They had more game misconducts than in the third period and first period combined. 6 game misconducts, and 1 shots in the third, 4 in the first, makes a total of 5 shots in 2 periods. LMFAO
Not only was the Canes Twitter account on fire, but that barn was easily the loudest so far these playoffs when Martinook scored. As a Pens fan, LET'S GO CANES!
*I'm still rather razzed about Palmieri jumping after Jake after the EN goal. Dude, don't be pissed at him, be pissed at your teammates. They're the ones that gave up the second half of the game! I should at least be thankful he didn't pull a "Dale Hunter" on Guentzel.*
Brock Nelson started that. He slashed Guentzel twice as he powered by him to the net and once more after the ENG. And Palmieri joined in the fun. Bunch of sore losers.
@@ryant1090 and then they kept jumping Canes players. I forgot who it was, but I remember they crosschecked one of our players when we were on our knees on the ice after we went up 5-3. They acted like a bunch of sore losers there at the end. I get playing physical until the end, but they were throwing nothing but cheap shit after the whistle for no reason.
The 'announcers curse' strikes again!!!! During the time-out when they pulled the goalie, they showed the stat saying that the Islanders were 84-0 in the playoffs when having a 3 goal lead 😂😂😂
Watching their games (not all the time, but when they're available and the Pens aren't on and/or not sucking) the past two seasons, they are literally the comeback kings. They're behind 1 or 2 goals, they pull the goalie, and Aho and Co. do the rest. LGC!
@@jimb.7523 i remember a 4 goal comeback win from a couple years ago. Granted, against Columbus. Turned the game off after we started losing 4-0, came back and saw we won 7-4. I aint ever leave a game like that again
It's a MARTY PARTY! I always love it when Martinook scores. He is my second favorite player on the team (behind Slavo) because of his grit, determination, and effort.
And it will bite them in the ass. Canes will lose at some point. They don't do cups. The payback will be brutal. Karma always is. I've never seen such a classless tweet from a "professional" sports team. Then again they were the Whalers. Too bad you don't have any other winning teams down there. It's baseball season in NY.
@@veritasinvicta8128If we can dish it, we will take it 🤷🏼♂️ there's no fun if you're gonna cry when your trolling gets flipped. So, to the Islanders - Cry. To everyone else in the playoffs, make us.
@@DuckDuckGoose13 The truth is the Canes deserved to win. They and the Panthers look like the best teams in the conference. Isles were the seventh seed and played well enough at times but Carolina just seemed to turn it on when they needed to. They're very talented. Congrats. There are a few players on the Isles who have regressed due to age (Lee/Pagaeu and worse, Pelech with another concussion this year) and they need to change up. I think the Canes should beat the Rangers. Both teams have great power Plays but the Canes much better at even strength.
I just wanna share a stat real quick that is insane. The Canes had possession of the puck in the offensive zone FOR JUST OVER 20 MINUTES. Walt Ruff showed the stat on twitter.
I was to what are u talking about the quietest fans in sports. And people left before u even started a come back. Your fans are all fake as can be. And ur the lamest fans ever u quit on ur team 99% of the time they down I've even watched games where it becomes half empty after being down in the 1st you guys are fake and u know it
My jaw absolutely DROPPED when i saw that second goal in 9secs when tied up. Just completely fooled them and the Isles tendy didn't have time to sense it coming. 2 mins from OT, but Canes said nah
@@brooklynL_miw Isles scored 4 goals in a few minutes against the Canes last year. A playoff game I had tickets for and missed. Shit happens. If the Isles had held on this game would they have deserved the win? I don't think so and I'm an Isles fan. 12 shots is ridiculous. Canes shouldn't have given up 3 goals.
@@steverossi7949 Isles fans also said Gentzel's single fist pump was "excessive celebration" and he deserved to be attacked by Nelson and Palmieri. Isles fans are good at inventing excuses for their teams classless behavior.
I just moved to Raleigh last year after coming from Columbus and working at Nationwide for CBJ (great times in that arena)- I caught the game at 3-2 and lets just say, at the end, you could hear the neighbors from their house across the lawn😂 absolutely beautiful with the Denver Nuggets win too in the NBA🔥
@@daviddavis6975 thanks bro- GO CANES🔥 (best state in the USA, been to almost all also, even before moving or visiting NC - i knew i would live here one day)
As someone who was just sitting at a crowded bar on Long Island, the crowd went from excited and loud to dead silent in a matter of seconds. Edit: I am a Rangers fan and sat there to watch Islanders fans wallow in misery.
All good man, just a game. I hope they can come back a game at least and make it interesting. As a Ducks fan, I'm just sitting nonchalant waiting for my team to get back on its feet.
Puzzled? Do you not get how points work in the standings? It’s very simple. No reason anyone should be puzzled. Very straight forward. Basic basic math “puzzles “ you?
@@JFK-ir7yzI highly doubt Ende is questioning the points system, but rather questioning how the Islanders managed to make the playoffs playing the way they do, especially tonight’s game
Because the division is ass besides NYR and CAR. As the #3 (not even a wild card) they have as many or fewer wins than four teams who missed the playoffs.
I see many comments on how the Isles blew it, "it's a choke" blablabla... Guys, you haven't been paying attention to the Canes lately. They gauge you out in the first, they tighten the grip and wear you out in the second and if need be they deliver the fatal overpowering blow(s) in the third. They've done that for the past 2 months anytime they really wanted to win a game. Expect them to behave the same in the next games in Long Island. (I still hope for the sake of NYI fans, and the overall suspense of this series, the Isles can get a redeeming win the next game &/or the one after, but don't expect the Canes to ever stop unleashing such power in the third any time soon)
Meh...I get what you are saying, but I don't any team goes down 3-0 as part of a "recon strategy." That being said, I was pretty sure the Canes were going to win by the end of the second. They were just endlessly pinning the Isles in their zone and the Isles were limping back to the bench after long shifts. It was just a matter of time before the pucks started rolling in.
@@gabbleratchet1890 not exactly what i was getting at, more than they have made it a habit to ramp up their effort in the second and even more so in the third to finish super strong. But off course they'd rather not trail behind after the first. It seems to me they've taken to heart the lessons of the previous campaign when they had to give it their all right from the start to compensate for all the major absentees they've had which lead to lost pucks & battles and little energy left to finish the most crucial games.
The Canes did this exact same thing to my Devils in 2009. But that of course was a Game 7. Well done, Carolina! Will be interesting to see how the Islanders respond
as an islanders fan, i have completely given up. i have lost any and all care about this year's playoffs and probably next year. Sometimes something just happens that makes you revaluate your life, and what's important to you. this was one of those moments
As a canes fan I was genuinely turning the game off thinking WE were cooked with that shot differential vs goals. Typical canes hockey. I’m so glad I was so wrong
The Isles just did what every fan knows and hates to the core of their being; they got a lead and turtled for half the game. And when you turtle for half the game, it turns out the other team will eventually score a goal when given ample opportunity. In short, they got a lead and played to not lose and that's how you lose.
@@ProductionAdmin I think both, obviously the Canes got to their game but NYI were perfectly content to just toss the puck and change for way too long.
I was at the game and that place was rocking by the end of it. It was crazy to watch the energy change with both the fans and the teams. I haven’t seen a team that frustrated and dejected in a long time.
I've never seen an entire team have such a meltdown at the end of a game (after they went down 4-3), that was glorious to watch, the Islanders should be embarrassed.
You’re scared of the Hurricanes. And you should be. They’re hungrier , faster and just better. You won’t beat them this year. Enjoy beating the weak teams.
Been an islanders fan for almost 20 years, best choke percentage in the NHL. It’s literally our identity to choke. Thank god we’re getting a franchise in Salt Lake.
I was watching this game while running a DnD session and boy was that a mistake. Watching my team completely implode, with the emotions so high like that I came very close to 1) snapping at one of my friends who would not stop ragging on me the ENTIRE night and 2) not finishing the session. I was numb. I wanted to throw up and cry. I barely remember what happened in our game, only that I felt a void and I was EXHAUSTED mentally and physically.
What I have learned over these last 6 years, is that under Rod, the Canes are never out. Old Canes teams would have keeled over and died in situations like this. But not under Rod's tenure. This team will make you earn that win.
I actually think the Isles played great hockey in those 2 games in Carolina probably the hardest place to play at. They could easily take both games in New York IMO.
i was there and it was glorious. had an islanders couple sitting two rows down from me gloating the whole first two periods. i have NEVER seen two people go so quiet so fast💀
The islanders just cannot defeat the hurricanes, it’s just one of those matchups where one team just clearly is a bad matchup against the other team, same with the Kings and Oilers
Holy balls batman. That was the biggest collapse that I've seen maybe ever as an Islanders fan. And trust me when I say that I've seen a lot from just this year alone. But wow...
Yeah but it wasn't really a collapse. Isles were outplayed the entire game. Sure, they blew the lead, but just look at the stats. Canes were way better all night, it's just the Isles had those few chances and capitalized. Weren't SOG 39-12, and I know shot attempts were 110-28, and OZ time was like 12min to 3min. If the Canes hadn't hit those posts and Varm hadn't been an absolute wall this flame would have been wildly different.
They may no longer be Penguins, but Staal & Guentzel still have my support. Plus, I will always hate the Islanders for that February game where they went head hunting because Matt Cooke existed. Go after him, not the entire team. Matt Martin can go to Hell.
I think I had the Isles taking a game or two off the Canes in this series, much like last year. After this loss, however, I just can't see how they even bounce back from this. It does feel like the sweep's comin'.
Not to mention people on Twitter were so hurt they were calling for a Canes Admin to get fired because of that tweet. The admin they wanted gone wasn't even the one tweeting. Just an all around clown show from a select amount of "fans".
I googled "how to stop caring at sports" after this game. No joke, thats how over it I was after watching that debacle. I didnt find any good advice unfortunately, just some sad reddit posts.
The Hurricanes are winning the Stanley Cup. I don't care about the fact the Islanders aren't as good as the other teams. After their comeback win vs Toronto with 2 minutes left I said the same thing. After watching this game, my belief is reinforced. Nobody is beating this team in a best of 7
I guess after 54 years without even a chance at a cup , you’d be so bitter you’d take joy in a teams loss. Tavares is a curse on a franchise that is already cursed. Enjoy another 54 years of nothingness and irrelevancy . Yay Leafs!
The Bruins will more then likely beat your team, so enjoy the win while you can. And as for JT, that lying snake can shove his regards. And you can shove that woke POS city that he now calls home as well.
I don’t know what happened but it was an embarrassing loss and the islanders simply stopped playing and took way too many penalties that shouldn’t have happened
Islanders spent all of the 3rd period trying to goad Carolina into a penalty kill. I’m no expert but maybe shifting the effort towards scoring would be a better strategy.
I kept my eye on that game being the Rangers fan I am hoping the Islanders would do some damage to Carolina. 6 minutes left being up 3 to 1 but being out shot 30 to 12. I was hopeful they would hold it, but had my doubts. Fast forward to this morning and WHAM 5 to 3 Carolina. The Islanders have had to set a record this year for giving up the lead and losing games this year.
Islanders gonna fucking Islanders. I said it earlier in the season, but we odn't deserve to be here. We're a fundamentally broken team that shows flashes of brilliance, but nothing sustainable. The team is in need of a deep, DEEP rebuild. Getting swept by the Hurricanes would legitimately be the best thing that could happen here
The Islanders are a very crafty team... they hate the Rangers so much they are purposefully giving the Canes a pass so they are well rested for round two.
It's as gut wrenching a loss as possible, but the isles proved they can score against this team and are somewhat unlucky to not have at least stolen a game out of these two games in Raleigh. they need to learn to manage the game better and if they can win their games at home, anything is still possible
