Richard was the brain and sound that started it all, he defined how their style should be represented to everyone. While Karen is the heart and voice that gave it life and impact. The feelings that Karen has while singing came from a real place, even though her life was a tragedy, that tragedy is the reason we have such amazing Carpenters songs. Combine amazing lyric writing, musical composition, harmonic arrangements, harmonic vocals and prodigious piano playing with a unique soulful voice that resonates with most people’s hearts and not to mention awesome drumming abilities as well. You get the Carpenters. Truly spectacular!

We always look back on our lives and reflect about those things we shouldn't have done or things we could've done. We always reflect upon those things that may have changed the outcome. How do you reverse destiny? You can't. Its always hard for those behind. Always wondering... "What if we had not toured so much ?" Raymond that was well said......neither one was better than the other!!! Never met Richard but he ate at a restaurant we were in once in Downey!! I met and talked w Karen at our dentist office once in Downey! I was sooo excited!! She was so pretty in person!!
Karen had a beautiful voice and have always loved hearing her sing even as a 15 year old in 1971 I had thier 2nd album I got for Christmas of 1971 and loved it then love it now ! Have thier Christmas CD I got at a thrift store and waiting to look for more of thier CDS and records as I just got a record player from a friend ! Need to get a tape deck or keep the one I have put it in my room !
I’m almost a blubbering idiot every time I hear her sing, my eyes well up every time, it’s not that she died so young, it’s is that her voice really knows how to grab me. And Richards contribution to the musical element to this material is 2 nd to none.

Richard was right. They should not have been touring that much. Just crazy. They were used up during those years, carrying a label that was about to go bust until the Carpenters were signed. Then they overworked them. Just crazy. Carpenters tour money helped fund Supertramp when that group first started out. Pitiful.

So glad Richard continues with the music. iam sure it is very hard to not have Karen even after so many years. She was such an unmatched talent and so outgoing and vibrant. That is one reason that her death is unbelievable at times. She had fought this disease largely on her own and its hard to see her when she was so thin because the vibrance left her.

Karen once told my step sister Andrea at our dentist office , that, touring is hard on me!!!!! When Andrea told me that, this weird feeling came over me......i knew something was not right! I felt bad!!!
