Wonderful exposition of how a simple bit of work (installing a motor) can greatly improve the performance and fun of an 'out of the box' car! Well done! Keep going!
Sandy man Port…love it! Lola T70 is one of my favourite cars, used to watch them race at Brands Hatch!Great video love the idea of the motor change.Well done mate and Armchair racer!!👍🇦🇺🇬🇧🏁😎
Great review of the car! Love the color, and the body style. The motor swap option will make the Carrera cars more competitive with other 1/24 scale offerings. More excellent information. Keep up the great videos!
Love the video, great to see the performance of that drop in motor, I'll have to try one (at least). The Lola T70 is one of my all time favourite race cars and I bought two of them from the armchair racer. The MJK tyres for these are great and with the rear bar magnet removed it slides around just right. I run analogue with adjustable power supplies 9-28volt 15amp which makes it easy to handicap by a volt or two for even races
Proper 'Tortoise' with the colour to match 'OOB' on 14V - lol. A really well structured, nice and clear presentation here :) This car is the perfect compliment for the Porsche 917K or the Ferrari 330 P4 or even the Ford GT40 Mk II. The motor swap is an interesting idea but would anyone really want to rinse and repeat with a half dozen of these beauties? Correspondingly, I'd tend towards a PSU swap. PSUs at 18V won't break the bank and it would be interesting to compare the lap times at the higher voltage. Overall, thanks a lot for this Travis :)
Hi Travis it comes down to economics mate. A power supply capable of 18v is cheaper to purchase once the number of Carrera 1/24 cars that need remotoring out weighs the cost of the bigger power supply. In my experience that equates to 5 cars that need the motor swap to pay for a power supply that can run the larger cars and still power the 1/32 cars as well.
2 things; 1. I hate you now as I have spent £'000's on 1/32 scale and am now looking at buying 1/24...with no track to run it on!! 2. It's Sandeman's port and its pronounced sandy-man. Just an FYI. Great tear down again and a great looking car!
First off thanks for watching mate and I'm not if I'm sorry for showing you the 1/24 side of slotcars 🤣🤣 And secondly it's not a video that's passes that I don't get something wrong 🤣🤣🤣 Thanks mate I will try not to butcher names in the future 🤣 it was too close to a vehicle we had in Australia called the sandman 🤣🤣
On the digital decoder side of the car is the performance of the decoder affected by the lower voltage Do the lane changes etc still work 100%? Great video and I like the motor idea
G'day mate, From what I've tested it still works as normal, from memory it takes 1amp to change lanes, if I had multiple cars then we would have an issue
I see a lot of reviews about how to run 1 24 car with 1 32 power supply. I have a 24 carrera track, i run some 32 cars on it. 32 cars seem harder to drive. Is it to much voltage for them. Am i missing something.. thank you for your videos.
Another top shelf tear down and review mate. The Carrera 1/24 cars are a great addition to home racing with some incredibly beautiful and iconic cars from them. I'd like to comment on the motor replacement while it's still fresh though. As it stands with a single or limited number of cars a motor change option works fine for a performance upgrade goes when the power supply is the stand 12v system. It also allows the cars to be run using the same power supply as other 12v cars. The problem though comes when the Carrera 1/24 bug kicks in and like many of us with them the number of cars runs into the 100 or so. If motor changes were done to all the cars then it is an expensive exercise. Indeed a motor is $35AUD plus. With more than 3 cars converted it more than pays for a variable 0-20VDC power supply at around $100AUD which gives you the ability to run multiple cars at voltages up to the voltage required by the Carrera stock motor. It can be said the motor change does though allow for the Carrera cars to be run with other 1/24 cars from other manufacturers which is true to some extent. But there is more to parity in that regard than just motor voltage. That's not a criticism just an observation. We only run Carrera against Carrera in 1/24 racing. All stock other than a tyre change out. These cars are now dominating our racing groups hard earned mulla and rightly so. They are beautiful to look at and provide crazy close racing at realistic model speeds. Only too happy to advise if needed.
@@glenperrin574 g'day mate, I fully agree if you want to future proof your track then a variable power supply is most definitely the way to go but I'm guessing most people have a home track and wouldn't run to capacity all the time so this was more aimed at a base line approach. I agree these cars are incredible and worth purchasing. Mate your advice is always welcomed here
The only thing wrong with the new Carrera 1/24 classic cars are the hideous looking tires. Their old cars had the blue stripe Firestone livery tires. They made the cars look fantastic. Forget the motor. Get rid of those ugly tires.
