Total drum & bass influence. This song is totally ahead of its time believe it or not. Still sounds fresh. And the video is cool. When CN was in its golden age.
According to Wikipedia, they toured with DJ Krust and Die just before working on the album! Just read that and wow, completely badass. Optical was a producer on the album too. SO crazy
This captivate me when I was a kid. Because it was unusual, and not just for the black and white... I guess it was the dark vibe of the song mixed with the crazy style of an old cartoon (everything fits so well). Not creepy at all (to me at least), it was just so fascinating to see.
It aired primarily late night on Cartoon Network but it did occasionally pop out during the day. It was policy in the original days to only air black and white at night because Ted Turner had his issues with black and white. There were some attempts to bring black and white to daytime but they never took.
Still slaps 23 years later!! I can imagine this playing between commercials for the Rainbow Art set and that “100 songs for kids” or whatever commercial that played like every commercial break at this time.
This music video was legitimately my first exposure to Betty Boop who is now one of my favorite classic cartoon characters. Betty deserves better than what she’s got right now and deserves a comeback
Mine was one of those old compilation cartoons, though i didn't realize it was Betty Boop's setting at the time. It was the side character Grampy giving out Christmas gifts to orphans.
Well the hays code is long gone and Betty boop IS now on public domain, so maybe that one Day when this current Crisis in Hollywood is over:we can see Betty boop and Many other animated characters making their grand return! Right?
I blame everything on the Supreme Court decision to fuck over AL Gore, then Bush not listening to Clinton about the terrorist attack that had been planned that they intercepted Intel. Bush ignored it 911 and then everyone lost their collective shit and we couldn't have nice things anymore 😢
I love that this song is strictly about drug use, and Cartoon Network still chose to use it. Soul Coughing was a fantastic band, and Cartoon Network throughout the 90s was my favorite channel by far.
I can't help but wonder if kids, even back in the 90s, had any idea who Betty Boop was. I suppose every kid would recognize her from her cameo in "Who Framed Roger Rabbit," but aside from that, how many were actually familiar with her?
Raving Rando I had a chance to watch her cartoons on VHS, and a few networks that had the rights to show her. In the 80s she was super trendy and i had a babysitter who was obsessed. I love Betty!
Well, when walking in downtown of where I live, there was a lot stuff with her name and face on it(purses, wallets, umbrellas, shirts, etc.) I think I may have watched some of her cartoons in the 2000s. That's all I can think of.
Being born in 95, I knew who she was, but that could be for many reasons. That could be because I liked watching Popeye and probably saw a Betty boop cartoon. My sister did have a betty boop blanket with her name on it. Or I could’ve learned about her watching ToonHeads. It’s just one of things I just always knew about
Back in the 90's and early 00's, both Cartoon Network and Warner Bros. deliberately paid a lot of reverence to old cartoons like Looney Toons, Tom & Jerry, Tex Avery, etc. I'd suspect plenty of kids then, even tangentially, knew who Betty Boop was by virtue of the fact that they knew of the era of cartoons she came from. As far as kids today are concerned, I'm willing to bet a lot of kids found out about her through the Cuphead game.
This song hits harder than most know!... This was one of the many childhood moments i got to share with my moms and she absolutely loved these shorts! Especially this one because it was a bettie boop cartoon!!
I'm speechless... I don't really remember if i listened this as a kid, i think i did just a couple times, but THIS IS AWESOME!!! the music, the experimental sound, the cartoon. Amazing how we grew up watching a creative and experimental cartoon network. Proud of having being a kid in the golden era of cn.
I grew up during the mid but dying era of boomerang as the classics were slowly going away and it turned into a channel where Cartoon Network dumps their new leftover junk no one wants to watch.
My first time as a kid watching this I thought "there's no way Betty Bop wins this race" but then she did it and I was so happy that this became my favorite groovie along with the Teen Titans one
This is the only groovie I never watched as a kid but come on!!! Why did this never air in the 2000’s?! I know it’s old but wow is this amazing. This is like the father of wacky racers
No puedes.
I know but Betty boop did not air on cartoon network & boomerang but the new logo maybe is gotta air some but Popeye Hanna Barbara's & cartoon network gang's they not on boomerang anymore but the amazing world of gumball and courage the cowardly dog still on there Warner Bros too but johnny test I like that show and all of them
Gumball is a great cartoon, just reminiscent. When CN came out, Popeye and other cartoons of that era were all they showed, and it introduced me to the greatest period of animation.
+Greg Palmer Maybe only the ones that were in public domain, unless they were able to get the copyrighted cartoons from Republic at the time. Not sure if they were shown in B&W or colorized version. If the B&W cartoons were shown, they probably would have been on Late Night Black and White, along with B&W Merrie Melodies, Captain and The Kids (late 30's MGM cartoon series), and B&W Popeye cartoons.
Jaime Jr Aragon Because Cartoon Network's parent company, Turner Broadcasting, owned the Popeye cartoons from Paramount. The Superman cartoons were bought by WB upon their purchase of DC Comics in the late 60's, and as for the rest of the pre-1950 Paramount cartoon library, after nearly half a century in the hands of NTA, Paramount owns them once again.
We all seen the good old times of Cartoon network and now were the ones who are proud to say "Remember when this played on Cartoon network? Awesome times"
Yeah I used to record this track off the TV with my cassette recorder and wired lav mic and it sounded pretty good for the time. Didn't have any other way as this TV was connected straight to the cable with no box.
@@ZephyrAvoxel I recorded tons of stuff off the radio when I was young, often just recording from the radio speaker to the mic on the tape recorder. Sometimes it didn't sound that bad. That ended when I went to digital and found devices with FM radio built-in and can record. If I had to I could just hook my Sony digital voice recorder to my radio by a cable and record straight to stereo MP3.
When i listen to this song, i always imagine an scenario of a race but vintage themed with old cars and etc, it always touches my heart... the strange bass that sounds very good, i wonder how they made it but anyways, this song is beautiful and always great to take a ride or race!.
Found this track in my mp3 library, had to find this video and watch it again. This was one of those "jaw drop" videos when you saw it the first time back in the day.
For the one that put this up I thank you with all of my heart... I LOVE THIS SONG. I sing it idk how many times... (cries) I WANT THE OLD CARTOONETWORK BACK DAMNIT
One, why did it traumatize you? 2, why did more people up vote this? I mean, it's a cartoon. What's traumatizing about A cartoon? Or is it a joke I'm missing? Sorry for all the spell errors and I'm not antagonizing at all just curious
Charles Smith It's a cartoon, and it's also a very distorted and bizarre version of reality. Only some bunch of guys in drugs could have made a video like this.
No. They were a big fan of their work. :) soul coughing had no idea that Cartoon Network would even consider their songs, said in an interview with of the band members
This is some excellent animation for its' day!! I LOVE IT..whoever penciled this was trippin', the 1st time I seen this on Boomerang..I thought I was trippin'.
The Soul Coughing songs on Cartoon Network were the shit. I remember waking up early back in elementary school just in case either Circles or Rollin' played. Thank God when Napster came along.
1992-2002 was best time be watching Cartoon Network. I wish they would bring back some of classic CN, the groovies would be nice to see again, besides Wedgies.
I remember coming home at 2am rrrrreally ****** up on **** from pink floyd laser light show and sitting down eyes glued to the screen on this. Cartoon network was never just for kids >:)
