Can we take a moment to appreciate the fact that Pa was borderline pissed that the audience was cheering for the option of him leaving his wife to find someone else just cause he sucks at talking, and he wasn't gonna have any of that?
Yeah I remember seeing seeing this again when I was more mature enough to understand the context. It's pretty messed up that they're being gaslit by everyone when in reality aside from communication issues, they still love each other
I'll give Paw Rugg this. He's one heck of shot. Shot at the crowd and didn't hit a single one of them, even made a few outlines of them, and he managed to spell out how he loved his wife.
GOD this art style makes me nostalgic. This late 90s/early 2000s edgy, harsh black shading, and drastic and fast expressions is so good! Gorillaz did it a lot too, same with Scott pilgrim. It’s genuinely one of my most favorite art styles.
This has to be my favorite short. I like how Pa freaks out when the man said that he could find someone else. And when he took out the gun to say that he loves his wife made me happy. I like how this is dark, funny and cute at the same time
I remember this! Man, that ending bait and switch gag is astonishingly edgy for a late 90s/early 2000s CN thing, and its safe to say something like that would NEVER be allowed to air on the network today.
“They’ll never get away with that in this day and age” through overuse, has become a very annoying expression. But in this case you’re right, no guns in kids entertainment, that’s a rule now. They even went back and edited them out of some 80’s movies.
I don't know if this was made before or after the Jenny Jones incident. I have to think that - and likely fictionally, the premise of 'Hope Floats' - kind of turned people away from thinking this could be a source of humor - though Bob Newhart did an SNL skit as Bob Hartley being on one of these shows.
I have to say that hearing the real maw and paw voice actors.Brought by memories.See I saw the 1960s cartoons.Cslled hillbilly bears. And maw right thou.Thats all that matters.
Out of all the CN Shorties that have been posted, which of the 4 do you think is the most unadulterated? Between this, Thanks A Latte, Harasscat, and when Bears Attack.
It depends. If by "unadulterated", you mean "funny", then it would be a tie between Harasscat & Thanks A Latte, due to the fact that, given that I've seen at least one short from each of the sources, they really follow up the source material when it comes to the humor!
IdeaBox9000 I meant have the strongest adult themes because a lot of these cartoons feel like they aren't meant for children lmao. Like in Thanks a Latte, children aren't going to know what the all seeing Illuminati eye is or may not know what Jerry Springer or Harasscat :P I love their interpretations! I also loved the music videos of Jabberjaw and Josie & The PussyCats and how they stylized them both up.
+Adam Gomez that would be this'un IMO. Going on a third rate talk show to settle their differences, Paw shooting up the studio just to make himself made clear to Maw..you know this wouldn't jibe in the original cartoons...which I liked.
Oh my god hahaha! I remember watching this back then but I had no idea what actually happened or what it was about! 😅😂 I guess this cartoon was just waiting for me on RU-vid until I got older.
This had to have been one of Jean Vanderpyl's last roles. Definitely her reprising Maw Rugg. They probably had to get someone else for Floral, because she probably couldn't get that high pitched anymore. I want to say Floral was being voiced by Janet Waldo, but I'm not positive on that. Not sure if they got Henry Corden to do Paw in this, or if they're just using the dialog tracks from the original cartoon. Don't know who's voicing Shag, though.
Considering that Henry Corden was still alive around this time, I believe that was still him as Paw. For Floral, Janet Waldo voiced her because if you watch footage from the Wacky Races game for the Sega Dreamcast (and PlayStation 2) where she reprised her role as Penelope Pitstop, their voices are very similar. Also, another comment on this video says that Scott Innes voiced Shag
Yep!That's her alright. She had a wide range voice overs. And Henry also done a lot of voiceovers. He was the main villain in .Thundder the barbarian. He voiced Okla the mock. The villain was called Gemini.
Man, never saw this one on Australian Cartoon Network...and I guess given that bit of Paw shooting up the walls of the studio to write his message, it's not that surprising.
If I am right I think Jean Vanderpal is doing ma.AKA Wilma Flintstone. And Henry .Sorry I can't recalled his last name. But he took over for the voice of Fred Flintstone from Alan Reed past on.
No. He said "-and the neighbors, they like her." The cartoon already shows that he is bad at communicating, so it's hard to hear, but it's there. Paw's full line is "She's a good cook, and a good Mama, and the neighbors, they like her". The point is that he is angrily telling off the audience for saying he should leave her, but his bad communication makes it look silent until he pulls out the gun.
