Cartoon Network UK promos and ads (summer 1996)

Clips of the Cartoon Network from the summer of 1996 (probably July) after an episode of The Roman Holidays, around the Flintstones, and into Thomas the Tank Engine. There are plenty of great self-promos - including the "Too Stoopid Challenge", which involved sending in home videos of your dog - plus a handful of ads (I liked the Dweebs one), and plenty of nostalgia.
The glimpse of Muttley at the very beginning is from one of these Wing Dings things:

Oh my god! I remember all of this! Always used to come home from high school and watch Cartoon Network in the mid to late 90’s! Loved Dexter’s Lab and all the other fantastic cartoons! :D I remember all the ad’s too! Also this is awesome quality!!

Glad you enjoyed it! Here's a Cartoon Network opinion that splits the room: to this day, I still find Cow and Chicken hilarious. I know the show always had it's fans, but there are also others who just never got it _at all._

Ironically as much as watching this is the closest thing to living these days again, we didn't think to enter our dog into the 2 Stupid Dogs competition. Maybe it was because we didn't have a cassette going spare to film our old girl Sandy being everything this competition wanted, but she was such a dopey, greedy, and just plain nuts whippet cross and would have fit right in. Would be great if anyone else has footage like this but of the following year which advertised a Scooby Doo roadshow event, we went to the one in Great Yarmouth and I remember them throwing cartoon network branded candies at the crowd.

1:41 - the music in the background here is also heard near the end of the SKY Dealer's Channel promo from the early 90s. Must be some kind of stock track.

I knew that Droopy/Shaggy promo had to be around there somewhere. Yeah I think this was in July, promoting August, especially from that last ad. I completely forgot that break lead into Thomas the Tank Engine, weird as it's more live action then cartoon. Nice to see that Turner did an epic fail back then. :D Thanks again for uploading this. :)

I would guess somewhere near the beginning of the school summer holidays, but there isn't quite enough to go on. And I remember arguing over whether Thomas the Tank Engine counts as 'animated' or not, because I don't think it does! It's a bit like when one day boomerang suddenly started showing live-action programmes...

@@VideotapeFTW Technically it isn't. It uses real life models, well the original series did anyway. Boomerang showing life action programming, could just mean that the channel is branching out, probably to separate itself from Cartoon Network but I doubt they got far. I think this would be around July (the same time as the Sky One stuff) as the friend I got to record these for me I only saw them while I was at school and not during the holidays.

Oh, boy, all of this is just fantastic! Thank you for uploading more classic European Cartoon Network commercials, you do such a great job. Now, not asking too much, do happen to have some more recordings of Cartoon Network, as well as from other similar channels like Fox Kids or Nickelodeon? Because if you don't have them, it's okay to me. At least, your videos are the proof you make an excelent job, like I said before, not to mention the outstanding 60fps quality. Very amazing, in deed! Anyway, if something ever happen, you can always warn me. Have a good night and my greetings from Brazil!!

Unfortunately when I asked my friend to record some Sky stuff, Fox Kids hadn't began airing yet. But yeah expect some Nickelodeon stuff soon hopefully.

Sorry to ask. But, which Thomas episode was about to play at the end? I'm hunting down UK Series 2 episodes that play two soundtracks at once ( I classify them as echoes) and I'm hoping to obtain them to document them all.

It was Thomas and Trevor, but I'm afraid there were only the first couple of minutes of it on the tape.

@@VideotapeFTW Ah, I see. No worries. For some reason it was only Series 2 that had the echo issue exclusively on Cartoon Network, so I'm hoping to be able to obtain them since the echoes are pretty rare. Thanks again for letting me know.

Actually, Scott Innes wasn't in the promo. Shaggy was voiced by his classic voice actor, Casey Kasem, while Droopy was voiced by Don Messick, the original voice of Scooby-Doo.

@@danielcabral4893 I was going to tell you you were probably wrong, but you are right. Thought the date was 98 not 96. So after Don died and Kasem stormed out of the burger King recording session, but it's the year before that happened.

@@Majorhappysaccount Actually, this promo with Shaggy and Droopy was made back in 1995, as a parody of one scene of the Pulp Fiction movie (from 1994), from what I've heard about. That's why this is from the time Don Messick was still alive before his sad death in 1997.

If you noticed, the promos had small circles that tell you where the cartoons were being broadcasted. No doubt in their native language as well. But yes Cartoon Network Europe broadcast all over the continent.
