Wow, these bring back memories!!! Carvel was my favorite ice cream shop back then, and it's a damn shame they no longer exist, at least in Baltimore. At least their cakes still live on.
There’s a carvel shop near me that my family and I would go to all the time when I was younger to get ice cream, I’ve had a lot of carvel cakes in my time because you can buy them at my local supermarket lol (I’m from the central New York area)
This is the famous voice and campy marketing of Tom Carvel (d. 1990). The ad dates from the early 80's. I remember it well. As well as Fudgy the Whale ("A whale of a cake for a whale of a dad") for Father's Day around the same time. An east coast icon.
I lived on the East Coast for a few years in the 80’s. The Carvel ads were on TV ALL OF THE TIME. Constantly. And they were all so cheesy but damn, as a kid, you wanted one of those cakes. It’s a cultural touchstone for any kid who lived on the east coast in the 70’s and 80’s.
This and fudgie the whale! The guy that was the voice sounded like he'd put a hit out on ya. Totally the vibe you want for special occasions requiring an ice cold ice cream cake.
@TargetRender That is the voice of THE MAN himself, Tom Carvel! Man, those cakes were worth every penny ... the cookie crunch layer, yum. My sister and I walked through a snowstorm once to buy one.
Then again, with VCRs being able to record television programs, I guess it would make sense to find these old commercials on them, in the age of youtube.
Uh brain, in the 80's this was cutting edge. Tommy is long dead and was replaced by cheesy Bob's Discount Furniture commercials. Get with the program fer christ sakes! ;)
Can someone explain to me what a cookiepuss is supposed to look like? And a cookie o puss? I don’t understand this at all. They just look like creepy faces to me.
+Seventizz It looks like its website says 25 states have it, but NY still has like 90% of the total locations. My state of Washington does not have one, I only heard of it from Howard Sterns show, he makes fun of his writer and sound man Fred for getting his mom a cookie puss for Mothers Day.
