October 8, 2021. North Cascades National Park, Skagit County, Washington.
Normally, this is probably the most popular trail within North Cascades National Park. But at the time of this hike the road is closed 3 miles before the trailhead, which seems to be keeping the crowds away.
The trail is roughly 3.7 miles long with 1800 feet of elevation change. Walking the road added 3 miles and 1500 feet of elevation change to that, for a total of 13.4 miles round trip, and 3300 feet of elevation.
A correction to the narration: Pelton Basin Camp is only about a mile from Cascade Pass, not a mile and a half.

Gorgeous views! Love the fresh snow up on he peaks! We didn’t think of hiking it this year due to the road closure- great that you hiked in the 3 extra miles and had quite a bit of solitude! 👌👍⛰

The 3 miles (6 RT) was very much worth it! The early morning road walk was pretty good too! The views were great within the first half mile or so, and most of the way up to the end of the road. (I always love to be walking in the forest at dawn, with all the birds waking up and changing light). But I wouldn't especially want to do it when a lot of cars are coming through. Right now is a rare opportunity :)

@@MrArtudtoo It turned out great! I’ve never seen the trailhead parking lot empty - that was kind of cool too…. But the mountains dusted with snow were the best!
