Case IH 2555 Picking/Unloading Cotton-Centre, Alabama 11/23/2018

This is the only 4-row picker I've seen picking so far this year, although I saw two others sitting in a Georgia field last week. The 2555 was made between 1997 and 2004, so this unit is somewhere between 14 and 21 years old. The Case IH 7240 tractor was neat to see pulling the boll buggy, as it is well over 20 years old. You don't see a lot of small cotton operations going on compared to 30 years ago, and rarer still is a 4-row picker in 2018. Hopefully this won't be the last one I catch in action. I apologize for the shaky camera at times, as I was in my vehicle part of the time and it was very windy there. Stay tuned for more videos!

Awesome video- doing things the traditional way--gives me more goose bumps than seeing a baler picker.

Fills up quickly. A short cotton harvesting presentation. Just natural audio, engines and such. That's a lot of shirts & jeans or sheets. Machinery good condition. Well Done 👍

Oh, they're out there. A little labor is much less expensive than a NEW baler picker.

641 Workmaster I grew up when people were still running IH 314’s on H’s, M’s, 350’s and 504’s. I remember when 2-row IH pickers were “big deals.” My granddaddy grew about 60 acres of cotton with two H Farmalls, and his neighbors or brother would pick it, after 1972. Also, I haven’t seen “scrapping” in years, either. There are only three cotton producers left in Elbert Co., GA: my cousin is one of those.

That's awesome, thanks for sharing that! My Mother and Uncle both picked by hand when they were small, as my Grandfather had 40 or so acres until the mid-60s. He did buy a used tractor mounted one row unit, but I don't think he used it more than a few years before he sold his farm. The last picker he ever drove was a John Deere 299 in the late 70s/early 80s when he managed a larger farm. The guy he was working for got out of farming after the 1991 picking season, and they were still using a propane powered 699 and a diesel 9900.

Me & my son farm 250 acres of cotton, In North Alabama,Case IH & John Deere are squeezing out us small cotton farms, with those $750,000 pickers not economical or nether do I have that long enough years of life to pay for one and they no longer manufacture manufacture a mid sized 4 row, therefore I’ll be running a 2555 till the wheels fall off then quit..

With narrow creek crossings, gaps, etc and muddy fall season that are the norm here in the north MS hills, a 4-row 4wd is heavy enough. I'd honestly like a 2-row JD for backup use or scrapping half the ground.

It seems to be like the cost of equipment shouldn’t be more than about $150,000 per piece of equipment because there’s so much good used equipment that just does a good enough job and there’s only so much time savings that one needs. After all, the point of time savings isn’t find more to do and make yourself more busy, is to be able to get the job done so you work less hours and make more profit
