Case IH 5140 Electrical Powershift Repair The powershift on this Maxxum tractor has been kicking into neutral. After checking wires and grounds, I decided to change the powershift switches. Here is a brief "how to" video!
I don't like complicated things much either lol I like the powershift tractors, though, because of our mountains. The snychro tractors will come to a dead stop going up our hills if you try and change gears. I guess I am a little spoiled too! :)
I have a question. So we took apart the whole powershift. Changed all of the O-rings... We only changed the second powershift beacuse it was shifting into neutral but the rest of the sensor are in good condition. But the real problem is when we shift (powershift) it jumps and that is the problem. It does this in every gear 1-2-3-4.Also when you shift uo and down. And we can't figure it out why it doesn't work properly.
We replaced all four switches with new. Powershift still doesnt work. It does not kick into neutral otherwise shifts O.K. The dealer suggest splitting the transmission but we feel it is electrical. Any suggestions?
Check all the wires going to and from the switches. Trace them all to their destinations. A bad spot in a wire was what was wrong with my tractor- not the switch. The wire was buried and I did not see the bad spot in it until I really dug into it. Good luck 👍
Is there a similar switch for the forward /reverse. I seem to be having the same issue . Works great cold but after it heats up sometimes if I have to back up it won’t want to go forward again . Let the tracto cool down and works fine. I have a 5250 btw
We are having the same problem with our 5250. My mom was backing out of the quancet and only had reverse this winter. She shut it off and we had to pull it up to the light pole, because then it lost forward and reverse. What did you find the problem was?
@@MyLifeThai371 I ended up selling the tractor but I did learn there was a switch under the cab that looked easy enough to replace. I think it just heated up and got out of tolerance
@@jakem3617 Update: I just went to the farm today and with it now being summer, instead of 35 degrees, I started it up and the transmission works good. I guess we'll see when winter comes if the problem comes back. Glad she doesn't have to pay the $140/hr labor rate in 2013. I don't know what the rate is now...
Update: After using the 5250 all summer for haying, it is now winter and the tractor will not move again in forward or reverse. I guess it is just a summer time tractor. :(
I bought a 5240 just over a year ago and have recently experienced the power shift not working in 2,3 or4. I'm thinking these switches. Did you know which one you had to change and if so, how did you find out other than looking at them?
@@GameCastCubed I actually placed the range in neutral and slowly ran the power shift up and down through the 4 positions a few times. Heard the clutch packs shift hard at first then they quieted down. The p shift and gears have worked fine ever since! Go figure.
@@dehavenfamilyfarm Was the loose located in one of the switches you replaced, up in the console where the shift knob, is located, or elsewhere? I have the same model tractor and have been dealing with the same issue for the last 2 years. The shop has already replaced all 4 sensors and yesterday it started acting up on me again. Some days it won't ever do and some days it seems to do it all the time.
@@mlf656s Have you find a solution in fixing the problem? Tractor will work and the if you change powershift lever light will come on and gear will disengaged. the if you switch of the tractor and starts again it will work again!
hello i have a problem with case 5140 first powershift not work now but only 2 powersift work 1 3 4 not doing what could be wrong- i wonder if you have any wiring diagrams from the case thank you very much
I am sorry, I do not have any wiring diagrams. Could you call a dealer or repair shop? They might be able to provide you with something. Good luck on your repair!
@@simonsinkovic5607 If a wire broke, I would think that it would be possible. I think you should trace as many wires as you can, and see if any are damaged. There are some down at the battery ground to check too.
@@simonsinkovic5607 HI I REPLACE A NEW POWERSIFT SENSOR BUT NO DIFFERENCE TRACTOR GRE ONLY 2 POWERSIFT. IT IS POSSIBLE THAT IT WOULD BE A PROBLEM IN THE COMPUTER ON THE RIGHT.
