While Ashley Cole may not have won any personality contests or flavour of the month awards, he won everything else that was on offer, multiple times, during an astonishing career which saw him controversially switch his boyhood club Arsenal for city rivals Chelsea.

Talented player on the pitch, meathead off the pitch. Just your typical footy player.

Hey nice work love you are doing on this channel. Could you please do a video on Leighton Baines? He is one of the most underrated players in premier league history probably due to his mellow and introverted demeanour but I’d really appreciate it if you do.

That's crazy you said that. I've been thinking about doing one on Leighton Baines for a while, and how his loyalty cost him silverware! For sure a Baines video is coming soon.

Thanks. Haha, after this season, It seems a bit foolish. Although overall, he is surely worth a mention, no? Surely he's in your top 15 premier league left backs?

Ashley Cole is definitely definitely in the FA Cup team of GOATs! I find it odd that he sensed he had to leave Arsenal for trophies... other than Vieira leaving for Juventus in 2005, most of the invincibles were still there. Plus, Van Persie and Fàbregas had been added. Arsenal had only just reached the Champions League final... the Arsenal team, particularly Henry, felt that if Lehmann hadn't been sent off early, they would've won the match. Ronaldinho and Deco didn't really turn up. Larsson made a big impact as sub. Eto'o was a goal threat and scored... but Arsenal absolutely could've won!

I’ve been a gooner since the 8th of May 1971 after we beat Liverpool in the FA Cup final, and yeah Cole was a brilliant left back for us but, for me one of most underrated left backs in the English league history was our great left back Nigel winterbourne

Under rated how? He's known as a legend at arsenal . Was known as one of the left backs when he was playing and highly respected

I really hate this attitude of 'I moved to so-and-so to win trophies'. It's like they expect trophies to be handed to them. A truly great player EARNS trophies and inspires his teammates to play out of their skins.

All Cole tried to do was maximise his earning potential. Rooney did the same to Man Utd when handing in a transfer request, and so did Gerrard. But I'll let you guess why Cole was picked on, whilst they weren't.

Absolutely ridiculous statement to make. Honestly are you brain dead? You are implying that race is a factor in this when there numerous white players that have been branded as money grabbers and traitors who have left their clubs for the bigger paycheque. RVP, Nasri, Rodwell, Torres etc. the list goes on. I never understand what people get from trying to make everything about race it’s laughable.

One can see the _'implication'_ from a long mile away but, the case of Ashley Cole is different from either Gerrard and Rooney - and a big part of perception about him was shaped by the fact that he moved from a traditional big club to Chelsea who were the _'new oil money club.'_ Cole made the decision to do whatever it took to force a transfer to a direct rival. This soured his relationship with the club and supporters. His action soured the dressing room, weakened his team, and strengthened a direct rival - 3 valid reasons for supporters to dislike him. His off the pitch actions also played it's part in the general public perception about him. Listen, the bottom line is that Mr Cole put himself first and what was good for his future - and fair play to him, he could argue that he was proved right in the long term. Now let's contextualise your comparisons of Mr Cole and Rooney & Gerrard. Wayne Rooney was forced out of Goodison because of the club's dire financial issues. Rooney did not forced the move to Manchester United, it was the club's decision to cash in on their most priced asset to save themselves. Even David Moyes admitted this in the later years. Steven Gerrard was disillusioned by the lack of investment in the Liverpool squad The club were under severe financial stress and had no hope in hell to compete with the best ever teams of Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea with whom Liverpool were supposed to compete for the biggest trophies. He was offered the chance to move to Chelsea and could've earned more and won more. But in the end, his love for the club proved too strong, and he committed his long term future to the club despite knowing that the chances of Liverpool competing with Manchester United, Arsenal and Chelsea in terms of revenue, recruitment and investment was almost next to nil. He could've gone to any top club in Europe and England and won everything, but chose to be loyal. He is one of the last people one should compare with Mr Cole.

@@Harisankar-ce2vd I was referring to when Rooney blackmailed Man Utd for a better deal. Not the move from Everton. It was swiftly brushed under the carpet to protect his and Man Utd's image so I appreciate you not knowing about that saga.

I don't see how anyone can moan at Ashley for leaving when they would've done the exact same thing. He was getting paid £35,000 a week more at Chelsea and got to win way more than he would've at Arsenal from both a footballing and financial situation it was the right move. Arsenal have noone to blame but themselves, Ash wasn't even asking them to match Chelsea's offer, he was willing to take £60,000 leaving £30,000 on the table to stay with the gunners. But instead Arsenal offered £55,000. You can't blame him for feeling disrespected when they're trying to nickel & dime the best LB in the league over 5 grand. By doing that they made it perfectly clear that they didn't value him as much as Chelsea did so of course he left. People criticize footballer for being "greedy" but they have every right to demand what they do, the prem is a multi-billon pound business and it only generates that money because of the players. They call Ashley greedy but not Arsenal who were trying to keep the money that he generated for themselves and pay him less than he's worth. They're the workers in this situation, the owner, the board, the directors, they're all replaceable the players are not, without them noone pays to watch, if they play badly the club loses millions if they play well the club makes millions so of course they deserve the biggest slice of the pie, otherwise that cash will end up in the pockets of some useless parasites like the Glazers. Alas most people are so cucked by our society that they believe that workers negotiating for the majority of the profits they produce is somehow wrong, and that we need greedy fat cats who do nothing and take half the fruits of our labour or Britain will explode or something. Newsflash, you can do the exact same thing that footballers do, an agent is just a union but for a single person, no wonder the media tells you to hate them.
@recruitmentch

@@MsMarco6 I could not agree more with everything you said. Spot on. But you see, Chelsea were at the time seen as a challenge to the status quo. Dean, Wenger and co were the media darlings. Cole switching to Chelsea represented a true changing of the scenes and a largely pro arsenal and apparently vs greed media detested it. But you know what is the laughable hypocrisy? Do Arsenal fans hate Campbell for walking out on Spurs on a Bosman? He had told spurs he would extend, and then changed his mind. Costing Spurs millions in a potential transfer fee. But I don't remember arsenal fans complaining of Campbell being greedy. No no!!! He was leaving to win trophies....!

I AM A MANCHESTER UNITED FAN, BUT ALWAYS ARGUED FOR ASHLEY COLE, THE BEST LEFT BACK IN THE PREMIER LEAGUE AND THE WORLD. ARSENAL MESSED HIM AROUND, PROMISED HIM 60K THEN OFFERED HIM 55K, IF HE WAS A WHITE PLAYER THEY WOULDN'T NEVER HAVE DONE THAT, SORRY TO BRING IN RACE BUT ITS TRUE. ANYWAY HE MOVED AND WON THE FUCKING LOT INCLUDING THE EUROPEAN CUP,WHICH ARSENAL STILL YET TO WIN. SO THANKS WENGER. THEY HATED HIM, THE BRITISH PRESS DELIBERATELY DONE THIS AGAINST A BLACK PLAYER,NEVER DO IT TO A WHITE PLAYER WHO FORCES A MOVE. RIDICULOUS. I AM GLAD HE FINALLY BEEN RELEASED FROM THIS UNDERGROUND RACIST HATE. THEN SAID IT WAS GREED ON HIS PART. THEY DO THIS WITH STERLING BECAUSE HE FORCED THE MOVE FROM LIVERPOOL, THE PRESS STILL PICK ON HIM. ITS A PATTERN OF THE PRESS. RACISM WILL NEVER DIE. IN THIS OR ANY EUROPEAN COUNTRY,THATS A FACT OF LIFE..
