One thing I really want to see is load development with zinc bullets cast in molds that would be ultra heavy for caliber in lead (such as what would be a 450 grain lead bullet mold for .452, but cast in zinc instead)
Here is a little-known fact, the receivers for Henery rifle's Golden Boy is actually cast zinc, polished to a chrome shine and dip coated with a water based bake enamel to look like brass. I live in WI. and at one time I called on the plant in Rice Lake was able to see the process. Keep up the good work
Lil gun and h110 used in 450 bushmaster. Also acc 1680. Used 230 grain round nose.452 at 145 actual weight. 2781 fps. Only shot one. Dont know if 1680 is an option for u
Wow when you showed that slow mo it look like you opened up a wormhole dude look like a whole new dimension that was awesome I've kind of hoping Willie was on here I was wanting to ask him what color that is I love that purple, I was wondering Elvis is there going to be any harm to the barrel is that zinc too hard
Hey Timothy Robinson... No I can't imagine Zinc at 35 BHN being an issue at all .. It was Powder coated, But zinc on it's own Has a natural lubricity. And if your Gun Metal Is around the 500 BHN mark or so? No Problem.... Willie should see your message. He will let ya know what color it is...
Elvis great video and astounding velocities. I looked at different Zinc types recently and noticed a mixture called Zamak. A certain mix can reach a BHN of 120 which can be purchased by the ingot I have several links buried in my bookmarks folder. I'd love to see what those do to steel etc. But the hurdle is the hardness. Articles of old school shooters dating back to the 70's I found who tried it, stated you'd wear out the barrel in most guns as the hardness is so high. Just wanted to pass this on, and waited till you did another Zinc vid. As always great vid and results keep it up!!
Elvis Ammo thanks for pushing that bullet over 1800fps. That was my goal if I ever got my hands on some zinc bullets. And you did it with a 5" barrel. Be Safe God Bless
You sure had those screaming along. And it looked like the recoil was light. You and loads of bacon made my day with awesome 357 videos!! Great job bud. Keep up the great work.
Hey Steel Punisher 69... Yeah... you saw right.... recoil was no issue! Nice fire ball... Me And Bacon... we were thinking alike today! Like me some 357!!!!! : ) Thanks Brother
Some guy with his own loads bought an $800 dollar 357 and 3 days later blew it up at my local indoor range. I will try to get a picture of it because the range master took photos.
Hey Elvis .. I am a lead man through and through LOL..... Trying to get to Powder coating my 3000 plus bullet multi - cal cast fest -- not there yet but close in on it ..finishing the resizing process... or as I call it resizing hell... I have had to step down twice on two bullet batches. The 45-70s dropped out of the mold at .464 had to size to .460 then .458. weee. They were stubborn rascals. Same with the .45 colt .. sized to .456 then .454 then .452. My guess is Zinc is harder to resize than lead... and boy that is something I don't want to do ... ha ha. But yours turned out pretty good. I sure hope you get into zinc... so you can sell me one of those 55 gallon drums you have of lead ... ; - )
just realized your next video will be your 100th. wanted to be the first to congratulate you on the milestone. Your doing awsome job with the channel and facebook page. I look forward to the big 100th. thank you sir; Miles
Hey the baddest... thats awesome ... thankyou! sometimes I forget who is who on FB and Yt... thanks for all your contributions!!! : ) I always appreciate your information!
Copper hardness and barre wear is my concern. Believe jackets are still harder than zinc. I use pure bismuth for pistol and tried rifle. 30 cal doesnt work the best in bismuth. Trying zinc in 30 cal. 450 bush took a 452 230 grain round nose actual weight 145 grain up to 2781 fps so far. Expanded to just over .750 on backside of a propane can. Bismuth is a little harder than lead. Zinc is harder than both. Copper solids harder than all
Hay my brother . You are having to much fun . My first hand gun was a ruger security six . I love those 357 loads. I think I'm going to have to build a out door range in the yard. I think it's ok in jersey to do so . If not I'll watch your videos in jail. Keep up the good info .
AWESOME TEST! I would love to see a bullet at the same weight with a hollow point ! With that high velocity they could be an awesome defensive round. Been shooting and reloading my whole life, but just started getting into casting thanks for sharing your vast knowledge of the subject. I really love your channel
Man you sure have a lot of nice toys. Hah! I have a Norinco 213 9MM that I got for $100 and a couple of cheap 22 rifles and a Hereitage Rough rider 22 Pistol. That monster Ruger is a fine looking unit. I have decided to look for a Cheap 1895 Nagant. An old 32 short revolver and a Swiss Vetterli 41 cal rimfire. Now THAT would be a challenge to reload for.
Elvis, Back in the day (30 years ago) I did the same test with 95 gr 9mm FMJ made for the .380, They were lightning bolts and recoil was horrendous out of a Ruger Blackhawk w/7 inch barrel, The brass stuck in the cylinder and was hard to remove. I was Using 2400 powder, However, I can't remember what the load weight was. anyway, be careful with super dupering, You can blow up a Ruger. I like how you gave the warning though to people that have small frame guns. Definitely a Ruger loading for sure. K Frame Smiths&Wessons is too nice of a pistol to do that too. Did you read My P.M. to you? Dave
Hey Thorsaxe777... Sounds pretty cool... This load believe it or not was under limit... But no boiler room left over! Thats ok... was happy with the results!! Still a full house load!
Sorry I no long have the name of the Company or the name of the powder I know I got it from eBay but I'm sorry I can't give you any info on The purple powder coat
hey Edward Aderman Jr... In all my research, I found no indication it would pose a problem. Only to the contrary.. zinc Bullet bases were common way back to sweep, clean, and lubricate the barrel. Just one fact that might help....
I have a 20 inch barrel henry, i would love to see a safe loading for zinc produced for varmint or even hog hunting. also i wonder if a slower burning powder like 4227 or H110 would further increase rifle barrel velocity?
I was wondering about what you just filmed. Wondering if 9 mm in a 38 special. Not sure what your thoughts were on that combination. Also what could be max bullet grain in 9 mm. What made me think about it was I put a 9 mm in a 38 shell and it fit snug. I thought of you immediately wondering if you have don't this.
Hello Elvis. Have a dilemma with 180 gr. zinc bullets for loading .41 mag. Being the length is so long, .874, how do I keep the length of 1.590 without worrying about increasing the pressure, because so much of the bullet length will be inside the case. I'm going to use Accurate #9. The closest I came to 180 gr. was 185 gr. The load for that was 17.4-19.4. I'm thinking start with 13 gr.?
Hey ET 2AD19 7581... As you gain experience with casting zinc it becomes easier on them.. But it's still a little hard on em.. they certainly won't hold up like casting lead.
Hey James Ford... That was a Lee 356-120-TC .. that our friend from this channel and on Face Book, Willie Young contributed to the channel!! They cast zinc at 80 grains.. I also used these in my last video for 9mm... worked out perfect!!!
elvis ammo Did you notice any damage to the barrel, i.e. scratching? What are your thoughts of others on the channel discussing wearing out your barrel?
hey 50calkiller.... I wish I had a good answer you are looking for but all I have in white is the Harbor freight.. A good two coater for sure if ya want them to look good! I Heard eastwood has one that works but I have not tried it myself.. You can try posting the question to my facebook page... sometimes you'll find some different experiences with other white colors.. Hope this helps! : )
