So here's something to consider -- all these years we've been guarding against getting zinc contamination in our lead...now we might have to guard against getting lead contamination in our zinc...Gah..!! the world, she is changin'... FC

The first bullets I ever loaded was with 700x. I had just seen your 45 video with the turret press and got 700x because that's what you used and it was in the reloading manual my father handed down to me. It is near the top of the list for fastest burn rates, so it works great in short barrels like my 3.25" 9mm and full size 1911's. I even use it in a 24" barrel 45 colt lever action. It gets 1600 fps with 250 grain rounded flat nose, and that's without exceeding the old Speer manual's max for single action revolvers. It's versatile enough that I can use it for all my pistol caliber plinking Ammo. It's very economical too for @$20/lb and only 4-6.3 grains per round. I am starting a 300 BLK project gun and plan to handload everything I shoot. Since a 200 grain bullet is being loaded to similar velocities as many pistol rounds, would 700x function for subsonic without causing excessive pressure?
@elvisammo
@elvisammo 7 лет назад
hey Chris Cogsdil... Yeah great powder! You can even load rifle Gallery loads there called. For bolt actions.... This can give surprising velocities. It's published load data, so it should be easy to find. But for Ar's and semi auto rifles, It will work but it will not work the action,,, you would have to treat it as a single action. Rack it by hand after each shot! But don't be fooled and exceed published load data max..

Intreaging guy.. Zinc has alway been the nightmare of bullet casters, getting the stuff in your Material is a serious waste of alloy and time. (If you have ever had to clean out a contaminated furnace) You know what I'm talking about. So at the end of the day, instead of just tossing out the Zinc a caster can make zinc bullets and save a little money at it. Good video Elvis, Keep up the good work over there. Dave.

There you go puttin a smile on my face again. You and them damn zinc boolits (sic) . LOL.. Me I am just finishing bullet casting fest 2017 here at the compound cuz I ain't paying for 45-70 rounds .. no sir. Got to make em. along with the .45 Colt. Love doin it but the hand bullet resizing is a pain. ha ha. Have a good day. PS molds from NOE also came with deep hollow point pins as well. So made 45-70s and .45 colts into some real bad boys as well as the FNs

Hey Elvis, So this vid inspired me to do my own testing with zinc 9mm and 300 aac. I was able to get those same results and even push them up to over 1600 fps. Just uploaded the results. Glad you recommended the tumble lube design. They're working great! Got my reminder on the pod cast today

Great test Elvis! As usual. I've been wondering how they'd do in 9mm. I had great success in 45 acp. (accept one passing thru the chroni screen) I only have one 9mm mold I use so didn't want to chance it. But I might change my mind now.

I have seen alloys of Zinc-lead used for other purposes. It might be worthwhile to experiment with an alloy. 50/50? 70/30? It might be good bullets.

Elvis, any plans on comparing results of powder coated vs non powder coated zinc? I'm not sure there's a reason to coat them, leading isn't an issue. But I wonder if the PC would be better on the barrel. Just wondering what your thoughts are.
@elvisammo
@elvisammo 7 лет назад
Hey Keith Hamilton... Well it would be hard to argue with powdercoating being better for the barrel.. No leading in zinc for sure. Comparing the two might be hard to determine... More than likely be close! I have done these tests with lead vs jacket vs lubed....

Just wondering and thinking out loud. Thanks for another great vid, I'm really learning a lot from your work and I appreciate it. And I'm not junking my zinc anymore, it'll be a long while before I cast it, but I'd hate to scrap it if there can be a use, and your proving there is.

Can you use these in polygonal rifled barrels?
@HanstheTraffer
@HanstheTraffer 7 лет назад
Wow Elvis! That's wild. I have so many questions now though. Like, I have heard that zinc is much slipperier than lead so It probably doesn't need powder coating. I wish I hadn't butchered my 22 mold. I have been swaging my bullets lately. There is no way I would be able to swage zinc bullets. But I would love to try making zinc bullets for the 22lr. As a matter of fact the 55 grain 225 lee mold would make perfect zinc bullets for a 22lr. they would weigh about 32 grains?
@elvisammo
@elvisammo 7 лет назад
Hey Hans Pcguy... Yeah they glide pretty good. You could get a cheapo 2 cavity lee mold to try it! 20 bucks or so.... let me know what ya come up with?
@HanstheTraffer
@HanstheTraffer 7 лет назад
Yes, i bought one 2 years ago for $20 on eBay. I just checked, they are $27 now. Maybe get one next month when we have more money. You know that you are going to have all kinds of people sending you stuff now to test. Me included. I am going to do a complete run down on all that I learned about reloading 22lr. Wow there was a lot of stuff to learn that is unique to just rimfire. Right now I am working on a cannelure type crimper. I will be glad when I get this done so I can move on to 9 mm. I am going to cut the grease grooves off my molds too. It is better for powder coating (and maybe zinc bullets too). Don't you have a hard time sizing those zinc bullets? Oh I bought some stump remover because of you ...woohoo.
@elvisammo
@elvisammo 7 лет назад
Yeah Hans Pcguy... They are a little stiff in the sizer.. Willy Young says he heated them to 150 degrees and this made it easier to size.. That could be a trick. I lube them to size. Some bulets I think will benefit from groves and some wont. depends on the amount of contact bullet/barrel keeping the pressure about right. Sounds like your gonna have some black powder fun too! : )

Dale Fine...hey man! sorry for the no cc. not sure what youtube does sometimes. . no good explanation. . this bull was given to me by a viewer. Maybe he can correct me if I'm wrong, but I think he used a lee 125 gr 9mm mold. he drilled the lube grooves out. ( just his preference) cast the zinc. The bullet come out to 80 gr. Any mold will do. just keep in mind, It may damage your mold. Hope this helps!

elvis ammo I wonder if that would work. Just kidding. My biggest problem is having case expansion with heavier bullets. Maybe 115gr mold something smaller used in zinc would give me lighter grain bullets and fly faster and not fly apart.

@psykoklown874
@psykoklown874 7 лет назад
My thinking is that they might at least have a chance to tear at the thin points, but whether or not they would actually flower (the penta looks more like a flower than a mushroom) is another thing. I'm guessing that if the actually did, that the petals might just break off and become shrapnel.
