I live in Frid's hometown, Hamilton Ontario Canada, and was lucky enough to become good friends with him near the end of his life. He was a terrific actor, and an even better human being, not to mention a dedicated family man. I will always cherish the time we spent together and the many, many important lessons this great man taught me. I met him as a fan, and he made me a friend. He could have told me to beat it, or even humour me with an autograph, but he was just such a decent man.

There will never be a show like Dark Shadows. Often imitated, never duplicated.

The Depp movie sucked. Period. Some things should never be redone.

Burton/Depp failed so miserably to recreate this iconic show that they should be imprisoned.

Oh my gosh.. I can remember running home from school each afternoon so I could catch the beginning of every episode. You could overlook the actors forgetting their lines, the sets that jiggled when someone slammed a door, the occasional overhead microphone that would sneak into the scene... in fact, they were part of the show's charm. But the plots, and the actors themselves, were so compelling you just couldn't get enough.

Thank you for this awesome post. My dad was Rudy Piccirillo video engineer on DS. I grew up on the set and brought friends there on Halloween. Years later I worked on All My Children and became friends with the great Louis Edmonds.I attend the festivals and Jim Pierson makes them forever magical. God bless cast, crew and especially the fans!

I remember when I was 8 years old back in probably 2001. It was summer and I was flipping through the channels at around 8 am when I saw something called Dark Shadows. It was on the black and white episodes about Burke Devlin and the whole Phoenix story line. I liked it and thought it was spooky. I started getting up every morning to watch it because I was intrigued. Eventually I got hooked and ended up watching the show over the next 6 years as it played through the entire series. Eventually I liked it so much I started buying the DVD box sets as they would come out. I am now the proud owner of every single episode and watch the series to this day. I like watching it through at least once a year or every 2 years. Timeless and excellent show that will be apart of my life forever! Thank you Dan Curtis, Jonathan Frid, Lara Parker, Katheryn Leigh Scott, Nancy Barrett, Thayer David, David Selby, Joan Bennett, Louis Edmonds, and so many more

I love Dark Shadows the happiest time I had running home from school and eating in front of the tv the 30 minutes I was taken away into another time ..

I used to run home from school every day so I could see what would happen next. If you missed it you were just out of luck. There was no rewinding the tape. I had a crush on Angelique played by Lara Parker. She was really beautiful. Dark Shadows is one of my favorite childhood memories.

I could listen to Mr. Frid speak all day. He has a wonderful voice.

I know I'm late to the game as this was posted years ago but I just found Dark Shadows on Tubi. Although I'm old enough to have watched the original when it came out in the sixties I'm loving every minute of it again.

Johnathan Frid is such an intelligent, articulate man. Also, Kathryn Leigh Scott must have found the fountain of youth.

Amazing they have never made another soap opera with at least a little bit of the Supernatural. Jonathan was so Canadian yet made such an excellent Englishman. R.I.P. sir.

Love DS and yes I was one of the one mile dash home kids too. Watching it all over again on Amazon Prime and 50 years later you see things so differently. Like how did Maggie, Elizabeth and Tom and Chris’ sister get all the way from Windcliff to Collinwood? Wasn’t it 100 miles away? How did Julia complete the “experiment” in the Old House basement with no electricity??? There were oscilloscopes and big lights everywhere lol. The actors all loved each other and had a great time working together. I think given that they had to go live every day with their performances they did a fantastic job. Especially the children, I can’t imagine doing that at 10 years old.

Dear Dark Shadows, still going strong almost 50 years later. A true tv legend. And what's even more gratifying is that many of its cast members are still attending the yearly DS festivals. We so appreciate their continued interest in the show. Thanks for sharing! I loved the footage of Donna Wandrey!
