Niall Evans a big part of it is because the event happened in the wet. It requires different techniques and that margin of error is pretty slim.

@@sensualeye I understand driving in the wet is hard, however at these action days you can go out without any sighting laps, no track experience and with three times the amount of people you'd get at a normal track day at castle combe so it's going to result in some nasty accidents. Its only a suggestion as people are actually avoiding going to these days now with the more expensive and track focused vehicles.

Niall Evans I don’t disagree. I do track days here in America and will only do it with two organizations. They have very strict rules, experience tiers for drivers and newbies spend the day with instructors. That Renault driver would’ve been booted from an event for sure and many of the drivers would be spending quality time with the track marshall. A run on one of my favorite tracks, Laguna Seca. It's got an interestingly checkered MOT history, it passed in June with 6 advisories, all on corrosion of various suspension components. Of course youd take it on track....🙄😆

It's a 3.5L V6 and you have to be going at quite some speed to see benefits from downforce, this was a super slow session with unbelievably bad traction. I had near-bald semi slick R888Rs on and just a dab of pedal would send me into a spin. The worst part is I had already made it through the corner, and then got on the throttle and it shot me 90 degrees to the right, which is when he begins to turn the camera. Perhaps with wet tyres on I'd have been ok but it dried up considerably later, leading to some cracking fast sessions.

Correction stay away from "action days" loads of cars out 15 minute hero's ☹️

That corner at Combe catches people out wether it’s first track day or 50th there,. Avon rise is either brake before and go into quarry slow to power out early, ease off at Avon rise and brake hard as the cars settled in between there and quarry, or as what’s common in the event days... do neither and hold too much speed into quarry and hope for a cheap ending.

Looks like a damp track, and no experience at how to deal with Avon Rise into quarry. You can do that corner in ditch finders and come out ok if take it right, or semi slicks and into barrier if you hold too much speed and unsettle the car.

Tyres

It was incredibly wet and greasy, it's not a track day where you take a selection of things with you, you can literally take anything on the track on action days, you go have a briefing and go out for 15mins, that's it, you want more time you have to buy another 15mins. I was on some pretty low ad08r's and had catastrophic understeer into quarry, this is 9am in the morning and was the the most slippy day I've ever been to at castle Combe and I've been going for 10 years, I'm sure as hell not taking a pair of wet wheels up for a 15min session on track 😂 its people driving beyond their ability or not anticipating the conditions, which given it's only a 15min sessions, people find themselves not even knowing the track by the end of it let alone corner speeds or where the wet line is.
