In my experience, both ends of introverts and extroverts are extremely socially awkward. The only difference is - extreme introverts are in constant fear that they might screw up a social interaction, so they stay overly reserved or keep over-correcting themselves, leading to social awkwardness, whereas extreme extroverts keep yapping on and on not realizing no one in the room is too invested in their mundane quips, leading to social awkwardness that they aren't aware of until much later.

I like to think of it as a cycle: You are introverted --> you find hobbies that don't require interacting with anyone in person --> you meet people online who share those exact hobbies --> they all have friends and relationships and functioning social lives unlike you --> question whether you're actually introverted or just completely dysfunctional --> become depressed and more introverted in the process --> repeat

Here is an additional tip that I learned from the MBTI community. Introversion vs extraversion is classically defined in terms of energy, but another very good (and more flexible) definition is their social proactivity. A lot of introverts are perfectly able to hold a conversation, but not engage in it. Making the first step, the initiative, is perceived as a leap in the void, because it requires you to leave your mental comfort zone (where you have control over what's happening) and introduce uncertainty (because you don't know how the other person will respond).

I'm an introvert. I'm okay meeting new people but I don't like suddenly being in totally unexpected company. When my two friends (sisters) invited me to their place, I was ready to catch up after not meeting for a couple years (due to covid). But when I got there, there were 3 other people I'd never seen before. They were friendly but I still had a very hard time feeling comfortable and opening up, I couldn't really talk about myself and kept quiet most of the time. Next time I saw them it was a bit better, I was already a bit familiar with them and knew they'd be there, but they're still acquaintances, not friends, and I'm still not too comfortable around them when it comes to talking about anything personal.

Learning about introversion years ago made me happy. My earliest childhood memories of kindergarten was always sneaking off during lunch and hiding in the bathroom and garden to get away from everyone. I kept doing that in primary school and high school. I never hated being around people, nor making friends--but I'd always need a reset after a few days. My high school attendance was 40% because I frequently broke school to stay home, but I was still 2nd in all my classes. And now as an adult I shifted and forced my way into a work-from-home career, because persistent interactions leave me feeling genuinely depressed in a way I struggled with after school. There's a lot of nonsense and pop-hype about introversion as a trendy label, but for me it was just a word that let me know that there was nothing wrong with me--or at the very least, I'm not alone in my personality.

My sister is a bigass extrovert while I'm a bigass introvert. She always told me that I was doing something wrong because I didn't enjoy meeting people as much as she did. I've eventually learned that there's nothing "wrong" with me, that I'm just an introvert and need to recharge my social battery frequently, but I still feel self-conscious when I haven't done "enough" with people in a while. I hope that'll change in the course of my life!

SO happy I subscribed, then found This old video of yours tonight I used to think I was an extravert growing up, but in reality I was just in a traumatic situation. When I started a D&D group, I realized I wanted everyone to leave at the same time, and felt uncomfortable when people lingered. I then felt I was an introvert. Tonight I stepped outside to smoke and realized I didn't want to be alone; I simply went back in and told the group I was lonely, and got a few friends out. Finding out that, for once, I am just average is strangely comforting.

I used to be pretty extroverted: I had my own friend group and had a guy friend group we loved to compete with. As soon as I heard we would get a new classmate, I told my friends we would be her new friends. But it all changed when we moved to the other side of the planet. I couldn't speak the language, so I progressively got more shy. I even declined play dates from girls who wanted to hang out. I used to have around 10 (real) friends, now, now I only have 1. And she doesn't even go to the same school as me xd

I am an introvert, and I was the only introvert in my school and neighbourhood. I was a bullying victim my whole victim. When I was going in middle school, the whole class was organizing surprise parties for everyone exept me.

A few months ago I "finished" my relationship with two girls (yes, a relationship of 3) but it was so hard because they always criticized me for being introvert, one of them told me that I was like that because I wanted to, and the other disliked my silence. I couldn't ever be closer with them and to be more... and I always thought it was because I didn't felt accepted. One day I couldn't take it anymore and I say goodbye without explanations.

I find being an introvert pretty beneficial. It gives you more time to think things through before you do something that you will regret. I'm just very individualist. I won't dance at weddings because I don't like to embarrass myself or do something I'm gonna regret. That seems to be a thing for extroverts is to be the "hold my beer" kinda thing.

Ii always kinda bugs me how comfortable Extroverts are with asking introverts why they're so quiet, but introverts never ask extroverts why they're so loud. To ask someone why they are so shy or awkward implies there's something wrong with them. It's very draining.

Intoverts tend to not only feel fine on stage but actually enjoy it for one of the hard things to archieve for them is attention and involvement from others.

This is a perfect explanation of Introvert vs. Extrovert. So many people think it's just about how social you are, when it's really about energy. For example, I'm an introvert--as a result, I expend energy whenever I'm with other people. Not in the sense of "Ugh, this is so draining," but in the sense of "Wow, I've been talking and expressing a lot, I'm starting to run low on stamina." Ironically, this means that I get emotionally tired fasted when I'm with people I like, since I get so excited and energetic that I burn through my social energy quicker. It's something so ingrained into the way I live that the idea that people could actually *gain* energy in social situations is borderline inconceivable to me. It's especially frustrating to talk about when everyone online acts like introversion just means you like to be alone and/or don't like company. That's not introversion, that's just being asocial.
