@@not_thedroids871 True it's old but I believe everyone is taking into consideration that there are SIX cats. I'm pretty sure emptying that cat box stunk to high heaven and the defendant comes across as a liar. Not even back THEN would someone do that nasty mess for $50 a week.
We used to rescue. We currently have 15 indoor only kitties and they have a very large Catio for fresh air & bird watching🐾🌸♥️ Scoop twice a day! No smell here!
She didn't hire a petsitter or a housesitter for all that matter. She hired someone to pop in and feed/scoop/play probably within an hour. She wasn't supposed to stay all day, overnight, or have cooking privileges.
I'm assuming $48/ day for a cat is a misprint. I've never seen boarding for a cat exceed $18 a day anywhere I've ever been. I don't doubt you for a second. My first statement is hyperbole. I'm shocked at $48/day. My local vet charges $10/day, everything is provided. I don't have to do anything except drop off the cat.
I can barely take care of ONE cat...The thought of caring for SIX just boggles my mind! It takes a lot to take care of a pet, and as much as I love cats, I've decided I'm just not fit to have another after the one I have. When his time comes, I'm not gonna have another pet.
Yes, i absolutely agree with you. Same here too. I have 1 cat, and that's enough. She is my precious baby. I love her so much. She is my everything and my 🌎. ❤❤
We have six cats and pay the neighbor kid $10/visit to take care of them when we go somewhere, usually 2-3 visits a day. $150 for a week sounds appropriate.
That's abhorrent! You are taking advantage of that child. It should be a minimum of $50/day for that many cats. Most pet sitters would charge $50+ a day and additional fees per each cat over 2. Do better.
For the child next door that would be reasonable but for an adult who is commuting twice daily and looking after 6 cats that's unreasonable. I believe she was meant to pay more and be gifted a kitten to make up the difference but became difficult when she stated she'd rather just be paid after realising how time consuming cats are.
I initially thought plaintiff was a liar then at the end realised it was the defendant. She was just cheesed off the cat was no longer going to her new home.
Here’s what I think happened. They had an agreement for the kitten, and $50 a week on top of that. The plaintiff realized how much of an inconvenience it was to do all that for six cats and just $50 ($7 and change a day, so not even $4 per visit). And wanted money instead and the defendant didn’t want to pay more money. So here we are. Plaintiff got ripped off that’s a lot of work, if she was actually doing it.
well it sounds like at least some of them were kittens that she was trying to sell because the other lady said she had wanted a kitten but it was too young at the time so depending on how many of those were kittens, it might not have been as bad as all that.
It works out at 59 cents per cat, per feed, and clean out kitty litter, and physically going there twice a day. And the owner is bitching about a dirty coffee cup, 😮
Even if the woman made a mess in her apartment I could see taking off a little money but she still watched her six cats for 6 weeks that should be paid
That vest for one thing, and I can't quite put my finger on what else but the hair the eyes the face resemble cats. For some reason, I notice people favor things they love dearly/been around for a very long time. It's weird
I agree. Defendant comes off as a liar. That's a lot of work and just because this is an old episode doesn't mean anyone would do that amount of work for barely anything. I think the judge was being waaay off and unreasonable.
It may be alot of work, but the woman treated it like her place..cooking, having company over and then not cleaning up after herself. At least do that. Jeeez.Who does that?
Hiring a sitter, any kind of sitter, then having a friend or neighbor come check to make sure the sitter is doing everything right or wrong, why those same people couldn't do the job?
The judge lives on another planet. I have 3 cats and pay over $100 a day for a cat sitter. She has 6 and the judge thinks 150 a week is unreasonable? I’m aware this is an older episode but even back then that pricing would be absolutely crazy
Yeah it’s about $21 a day. That seems perfectly fair (tbh cheap) for SIX CATS. Especially if she was coming two times a day as she was supposed to. The defendant didn’t dispute the amount of time she was there.
Oh, my days, the defendant at the exit interview tells Kurt, “Well, it was a verdict…”. What in the world, lady? You stiffed that woman. Gone six weeks! From six cats! The plaintiff agreed to one week, to in return get a kitten and some money. She no longer wanted the kitten because she was done with your crazy butt. Even the defendant’s witness only swore to one cup and one plate, that’s not a giant mess. Where are the photos of the “giant mess”?
I did the short math on this one and 2 trips a day for 5 weeks equals 70 total visits I don't believe she went by that often because that's a lot. Regardless it breaks down to $3.50 a visit to run over, feed, water, clean litter box, and play with them. All for less then 4 dollars, either they were great friends or someones getting ripped off!
How about this: the kitten was not old enough to be given to her. Was the kitten old enough to go home with the plaintiff before the defendant arrived home (shorter period of time)? Or old enough to go home with the plaintiff when the plaintiff says the defendant came back (longer period of time)… (6-12 weeks) The plaintiff has a dude she’s screwing around with & bringing him back to a place he wasn’t given permission have there if she’s ’just watching’ the cats twice a day. The neighbor who stated she asked for tin foil doesn’t remember the date of when that was or when she saw them come & go from her house? The defendant didn’t call the airport to get any proof of the date she left? The nephew couldn’t tell her a date of his surgery or when she arrived? That smells fishy. But the plaintiff had two people speak against her. Being a pig. And her comings & goings. If I’m being a slob at someone else’s house- it’s when they are gone s longer period of time than not. It was $50 a week not $150 a week. ‘I told her that’s not enough’ so she gives her an ‘extra’ $10. No… $10 extra wouldn’t be enough money to keep her from taking the job but that’s $40 extra a month. So it’s worth the $53.33 a week.
I have 2 cats that I care about dearly. If I came back, I’d pay whatever she wanted as long as my cats were safe and sound. She said initially that the job was worth more than that. “Let me pay you something.” She knows in her heart she’s wrong, regardless of what the actual terms of the contract were.
I think both sides are fibbing. Plaintiff probably offered to do 1 week free in exchange for the kitten. Defendant was desperate for week 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 and offered $150. Then made excuses when it was time to pay up🤷♀️
Don’t forget about the filth on the stove and the defendant isn’t very smart not taking pictures pictures of the filth, or even having her take pictures
Taking care of 6 cats is no easy thing. I have only one and he makes allot of mess. So her saying that the house was messy should be expected. She didn't pay her to clean the house. I feel just the act of paying for gas to drive to her house twice a day would cost more then 50 dollars per week. Then their is the cleaning and scooping the 6 litterboxes, cleaning their plates regularly and feeding them twice a day. I wouldn't do this type of job, especially if your then blamed for not cleaning the house after the 6 cats. I think the cat sitter came out at a HUGE loss, she was basically doing this for free.
I don't believe the defendant that it was only $50 a week for 6 cats for up to 6 weeks. I believe she said for a couple of weeks at $150 a week. I also don't believe the plaintiff that the house was kept clean except for the stuff cats knocked over.
.......it's BEYOND incredibly cheap for a pet sitter. She got paid about fifty cents a visit for feeding and cleaning up behind six cats. If that's what you consider totally fair, I'd love to see you accept that kind of compensation for your labor.
I do cat sitting and it is $25-$30 per visit, so at least $50 per day for two visits depending on how far I have to drive. Cats are abandoned if the owner does not return and the contract ends. She could have sent them to a shelter. But get it in writing !!!!
Automatic litter boxes with filters are available for purchase. With six cats, the defendant should have three litter boxes, but she’s so cheap she probably has one old style litter box for her six cats.
$50/week to go twice a day is under $4 per trip; I can't imagine anyone wanting to do that unless it was a good friend. Even $150 would barely be worth it unless the person lived really close.
So finally right at the end we get the truth! The defendant had bought a $500 kitten and for whatever reason couldn't keep it. So she was trying to get the plaintiff to accept $50 per week plus a $500 kitten, but the plaintiff wanted the money and not the kitten. It seems the defendant got angry about then having to do some work to find a new home for the kitten and so refused to pay her anymore money. I wondered how they could be so far apart on the numbers. So the defendant was the liar, which I had suspected as nobody with any sense would agree to look after 6 cats twice a day for $50 per week. She wasn't just feeding them, she was also getting the cats to play so they didn't get bored and destroy the apartment, and she was grooming them, so she had to have been there a few hours each day.
Who in the world has 6 cats and then leaves them for 6 weeks with someone who they barely know who expected you to be gone for 1 weeks. The 50 bucks do not even cover the cost of getting to this persons house twice a day. That cat owner sounds like a irresponsible, unfair, freeloader of a person. That lady probably has been doing this to more people then that poor cat sitter. What a despicable person. Then she has the nerve to not pay her and complain about the cleanliness of the house. You can not just go ahead and basically abandon your pets for 6 times the time your cat sitter expected you to be gone and then come back home and complain that the house is a little messy. Honestly if someone did this to me I would call an animal shelter and have them pick the cats up since this lady decided to "extend her stay"(basically abandon her pets).
That’s fishy that she doesn’t have her flight itinerary & if she was going to give her a kitten valued at “over 500” that should have been considered since she didn’t get a kitten. I think she should’ve gotten at least $590 🤷🏻♀️
If she was going to have her friends go check up on the place anyway, why didn't she just ask them if they didn't mind taking care of the cats while she was gone. She obviously trusted them and she obviously did not trust this lady so contract or no, That was just a bad arrangement all the way around.
Take a look at the facial expressions from one of the audience members in the gray jacket to the left of the screen. She’s been in another video and made the weirdest facial expressions. I guess this girl just like showing up.
I had to attend 2 funerals out of town. I have 4 kittys. I called the closest people, my neighbors. Asked to do 1x a day each. They did. Morning feedings and box cleaning, evening feeding and box cleaning. I was gone 5 days. I asked what each wanted to get paid, both said they wanted nothing. They even vacuumed. Was told its what friends and neighbors do. Id do the same for them. Along while back, I left a gift card for a friend for 1 1/2 days for cat care. They left it on my counter lol
I would seriously go feed and clean for a friends 6 cats for $50 a week as long as I wasn't having to drive a long distance. I also have 6 cats and we have 3 litter boxes. They only need to be scooped once a day. That may take 10 min. I'll be honest, my hubby and son do the litter boxes and I feed and water them so I am guessing. Surely, no more than 10 min cleaning the litter boxes. It takes all of 5 min to clean the bowls, to feed, and to water 6 cats. $50 a week is plenty. If I were doing it as an extra income and for clients vs friends, I would probably charge a little more or just go once a day. Cats are hardly no trouble at all, which is why it's easy to own 6. We spay and neuter ours so, none of those are from our cats reproducing (in case anyone is wondering). They generally don't make a mess with their food either. As long as they are litter box trained, they are great pets. It's helpful to have a neighbor help as they would not have the added expense of driving and the $50 a week would be plenty for their help.
Amd this is why my dogs go wherever I go. I don't trust anyone especially a stranger coming in my house to take care of my pets. They can and probably will go looking in all your stuff. My 16yr old daughter takes care of 2 of our neighbors pets, one is a dog the other is 2 cats. Both neighbors love my daughter and let her stay in their house with the pets when they are gone, tell her to make herself at home. But my kid comes home to eat and shower then goes back to stay with the pets. She even cleans their house and does laundry while she is there. I think that's why they like her staying when they are gone. She is a really good kid though. Responsible. She knows the consequences is not worth the risk of being stupid for one night.
Why didn't JM say if you got $160 in June, why wouldn't you say hey you owe me like $750??? Instead of saying 150 is not enough ok an extra 10 is ok. Doesn't make sense. Plaintiff is the liar imo.
The defendant admitted as she walked out the courtroom that $50 per week was low but she was going to give the plaintiff a kitten for the difference but that transaction didn't happen so I think the plaintiff was correct all along.
The judge should have punished both of them but splitting the difference. ...$150 divided two equals to $75.00 per week....times 5 weeks equal to $375 for the plaintiff less $160. already paid equals to $215.00 for the plaintiff. Pay the lady !!
I can not believe she was cooking in the defendant's house, but I agree that going twice a day for 5 or 6 weeks, she was under paid, but she would have beeen over paid if the amount she claimed to be owed.
