I almost lost my cat to an eagle night before last. My husband was out making sure all the tools got put away. As he came around the corner of the house, he saw our little 8 lb. cat and picked her up. He said he heard a noise above him and there was an eagle pulling up about 10' above him. Now I'm scared to let her out without supervision. I have seen them circling the sky's of our neighborhood every summer but, that was too close.

Must be a juvenile bald eagle, when I was in Juneau, Alaska I saw really large eagles roosting together when visiting a totem pole center. Didn't see any cats hanging out around there.

Eagle: I see you got some leftovers from supper, mind if I help myself Cat: Ok this dude is the biggest bird l've ever seen, probably can't take him down, yeah you can have my leftovers but then you gotta go, don't even think about sitting in my chair cause that's where I draw the line to my hospitality! 😁

Frankly, I wouldn’t give the cat much of a chance against a bald eagle. Cats are used to small birds like sparrows and robins but this is a whole different ballgame and the cat knows it. Marvelous video.

Bald eagle was essentially stealing the cats plaything(mouse). The cat was being territorial but not being driven by hunger did not know what to make of the encroaching eagle. In nature you always go for the easiest way to sustain yourself. The cat more than likely has a food dish inside and the eagle went for the mouse.

As far as passive staring, I think this was a tie.

Just saw a video of a Bold Eagle fly off with a cat in its claw.

When I lived in Alaska in the Air Force, I cautioned our new neighbor (a Captain and his wife who had recently arrived from the lower 48, and had a family cat) about the many Bald and Golden Eagles in the area. To which the Captain's wife said "Well, we try not to let our cat out too much because she has a habit of catching and killing birds" She had no clue who was facing the danger there, or how big and dangerous Eagles are to cats and small dogs. But the Eagle in this vid was just being nosy, looking for an easy meal, like table scraps or garbage thrown out the door. Alot of the more 'domesticated' Eagles hang out around human populations, and become beggars and opportunists who snatch all kinds of crap. Youre not supposed to feed them, but lots of people do anyway.

Kinda a neat watching both animals being a bit cautious. But the eagle knows it's the boss and just strolls up and takes whatever and whenever it wants. The eagle doesn't have a care in the world.

I love all these cat people that say, "my cat could take down a grizzly bear". That eagle was never scared, and there's a really good reason for that.

Cat may have been on the eagles mind for a meal too. Neighbor jogs, and last year saw an eagle flying low and towards him on a country road. Seemed to have difficulty gaining altitude, but when flying just overhear could see the eagle had a cat hanging from its talons.

Eagle wasn't there to eat the cat...if so the cat would've surly been killed, carried off and devoured .

They are both very cautious. Do eagles normally stroll across lawns ? If the cat was really scared it could of run away or gone into the cat door. Wonderfully patient person taking the video- even though their cat may have been scooped up and flown away .

3:30 the cat actually sized the eagle up and started walking over.....the domestic cat never siezes to amaze me

This is clearly not an adult bird. It doesn't know how to hunt yet. If it were an adult bald eagle, the cat would have no chance.

The cat has FAR, FAR, more too worry about then the Eagle.

I heard my dog ( a small poodle/terrier mix ) barking frantically one day in the back yard so I ran out to see what was going on. Turns out he was having a face off with a barn owl that had taken a squirrel out and was eating it right there in the grass. My dog obviously has more bravado than brains! Lol. That owl could easily have taken him down too.

As a cat lover I am praying for kitty to find a safe place quick, but no, it goes closer to the eagle. 😭

Bald eagles are big scavengers. I see them at our dump just like seagulls. It was probably going for some cat food.

If the bald was hungry, the cat could very easily become a meal.

This helps us to know that it's really not safe to let our pets go outside without us being there to watch out for them.

As long as the cat stays near and under the yard furniture, Baldy has no chance to pounce and use its wings to its advantage. Grounded and moving about slowly the eagle can potentially fall victim to the cat.

That eagle was hoping that the cat would charge the eagle close enough for the eagle to stick in its talons. Then the eagle could fly to about 100 feet and let the cat drop to its death, then eat him. I see that cat door and I was thinking that the cat was going to use it but no. The cat made a wise choice to not rush into those talons. If he did then he'd be fighting for his life.

Just a few weeks ago in central Illinois a bald eagle just snatched up a 14lb min pin dog and flew off with it. They finally found what was left of her days later. Who new they could get something that heavy. Felt so bad for the lady she was fishing at a lake with friends when it happened.

What a priceless encounter! Nice to see a cat intimidated by a bird rather than vice versa.

I wonder if the eagle has stolen mice from this cat before?
