I was busy on the computer but Tango let me know that that was no excuse for being late with breakfast! She has a way of gently attracting your attention.
my catahoula will howl like that at night sometimes and he also acts like he's trying to talk pretty often. sounds sorta like a bear cub or something. they are a very cool breed with a mind of their own
+Captain Slappywacks Best dog have ever owned...they certainly do have a mind of their own and they are not a breed for those that won't put effort into the partnership ....but the rewards are immense for those that do!
What a cutie! Not enough people know about this breed. I have a Catahoula and a German Shepherd. Everyone thinks my Catahoula is a pitbull for some reason and when I tell them what breed she really is, people just have a funny look on their faces lol.
We live in Australia and not many people know the breed at all which is a shame as they are just a terrific breed and I have never met one I didn't like. Your dog has beautiful eyes. They are a dog that finds pleasure in giving you the best of them but at the same time they will test their boundaries and are not for weak owners I suppose.
ellabayforever The Catahoula in my profile pic is actually just a picture I found online lol, but the reason I chose it is because it looks identical to my Catahoula. But yes, they are amazing and more people need to know about this breed. My Catahoula is my energetic, friendly dog who loves everyone. My shepherd is my protector who is more suspicious of strangers but still friendly. Both amazing dogs.
What a cutie! Our catahoula hasn't quite mastered howling yet. He will hear other dogs howl and then pretend to join in by barking+whining at them. Every so often when he get a real howl out he seems so impressed with himself
ellabayforever - I've tried before playing howling dogs for him! He will bark along for a few minutes and then get a measly howl out at the end. It's so funny!
Thank you everyone for the kind comments ...apologies that I have taken so long to acknowledge them. I love this breed and I can see from the comments that many others feel the same way!
I got a Catahoula here, named Harley. It takes a miracle to get him to even want to eat his food, he expects treats to be sprinkled in it, otherwise he'll wait till night time, to realize he isn't getting a treat, only to then eat what he was given.
+Brandon MacEachern My mother in law had a poodle that was a fussy eater. It now lives with us and discovered that when there are 3 other animals looking at your food bowl that fast is way better than fussy!
+Nathaniel Powell only one thing better than a Catahoula leopard dog and that's 2 Catahoula leopard dogs! Hope they bring you as much joy as our girl gives us :)
Our Catahoula leopard doesn’t howl or do anything but it is VERY protective over me and my family. We have to always put her in our pin when someone comes over so she doesn’t attack them. We cant even walk her anymore because she growls barks and bolts after everything it sees someone.
+Karryn Dolan I see a lot of Catahoula crosses and even though I would always want a straight Catahoula many of the crosses I have encountered have been fine dogs indeed
Mine rarely barks, but howls a lot!!! When he wants to eat, when he wants to walk, go out, when it's time for my husband to come home, her makes Chewbacca noises. LOL
ellabayforever I had two dogs in the past and despite that i generally believe that "love" as we know it is a feeling that animals beside humans don't have.Sometimes though life proves me entirely wrong. She is a wonderful dog and you seem to have a wonderful family. May you have a long and fulfilling life Greetings from Greece.
I think at an emotional level, just like us, dogs vary greatly in their capacity to love. I also think that as long as you start with a sound companion animal you get back what you put in and this girl never doubts that she is loved and valued as a member of our family. Wishing you long life health and happiness from Australia..cheers Russ
There aren't as many Catahoulas around Louisiana as there once was. Other states stole our breed. There is even one huge breeder in California. Kind of sad, they were once very common family pets, almost all my friends had one when we were growing up.
+Tay Tay CrayCray I saw Thunders birthday video...Beautiful dog and thanks for sharing...Happy first birthday Thunder! ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-iUZ0VUbCcnE.html
+L.J. Jennings She was bred locally in north Queensland Australia. We knew her mother (best natured dog I've ever met) so when there was a pup available we couldn't say no. She is 3 now ...amazing breed and an amazing dog
She was less than a year old and had a bit of growing to do. She has finished growing now and weighs in at 27kg. The best and smartest dog I have ever owned ...cannot fault her in any way.
I haven't taken video of her for ages but next time I take her for a run on the beach I will try and take some video. Just weighed her today and she is a tad over 28kg but has not been getting her usual exercise lately.
Okay brother, thank you for your response, i will waiting her new video on the beach.. Hehe and i hope there's got other dog to play with her. Cause i wondering how big catahoula is. Thank you...
NOT REALLY. My dog is chocolate w dark brown patches. He is full grown 30 pounds w short legs. He howls like a coyote and yips. He sings while I hold him in my lap.
+ellabayforever Yes, he always think someone is playing tag with him. He does this everyday with pinecones. We have to catch him because he is always bringing them inside the house making a mess.
