And I just learned something new on cleaning trout. I have cleaned a good share of trout over the last 40 years, and that's the first time I've seen a trout cleaned that way!
I’ve had the best luck there fishing small 1.5” white jigs tipped with raw shrimp marinated in garlic. Or tip the hook with garlic powerbait and jig lightly!
That first fish was awesome. The one you cooked up was perfect. But I regret to inform you there is no such thing as a pink trout. The blackish concave strip which runs along the interior spine of trout and salmon is the kidney, or more accurately, kidneys. If the strip is not concave and becomes convex it is likely diseased, so you you might want to avoid eating a trout with a swollen, convex kidney. And the kidney looks like one, but there are actually the anterior and posterior kidneys that run along the spine which are what you cleaned out. There's other stuff going on and other sections in between the anterior and posterior kidneys, but those are the basics.
In late January I caught a 5 pound cutthroat there almost in the exact spot. I've had the best luck with a little lime green atomic teaser tipped with a meal worm and covered in scent oil there. I caught 6 there on the exact set up last year
I respect you putting the first catch back. Karma will get you back brother, don't trip. Might not be this fishing trip but this won't be your last! I like fishing, but cooking is another fun and easy outdoor activity I enjoy. Hauls aside, this vid was solid, thank you
