Returned to a pre ICAST fishing trip with friend and guide Brian Nelli - www.tckayakfishing.com Fishing had been really slow but we tried our best. I suggested trying jigging and it was challenging. Really I had no clue how to jig tuna like this and it was cool to see Brian get it done. I landed a lot of albies in two days and am looking forward to getting my game down for the next trip there. Unlike any other fishing I have done in the past.
Brian filleted them, chilled them, and served with rice and spicy mayo and a little sesame seed topping. Probably one of the best fish I've ever eaten raw. If they were in kayak range for me...I'd target them all the time!

Dude, I love all your videos man. You are inspiring me to save up for a pedal kayak and I’m so close. You make fishing look like work of arts with these shots you take with your GoPro. Hope one day I can run into you and fish once when I finally get my own pedal kayak. Thank you for the fun ad keep doing what you’re amazing at.

Joe Brown Do you know what the rules are on bluefin tuna in mass? I have a mass recreational salt water permit but i don't think i'm allowed to fish those with that. I thought you needed a commercial license for them.
@lamiglass1
@lamiglass1 6 лет назад
вяιαи you do need a special liscense to catch tuna from sure as I’m not a tuna fisherman I don’t know the ins and outs of it I’m just a surf angler that goes up there for stripers but have been spooked a couple times by those 100+ pound tuna that occasionally crash the beach while chasing bluefish.

I fish in Maine. Yesterday I snagged a bunker out of a giant school while fishing for mackerel off the rocks and a huge bluefin came up and smacked it less than 6 feet from the rocks(30 feet of water ). Scared the shit out of me , thought it was a shark until it came to the surface. The fish was longer than I am tall. Needless to say it took off with my 20 lb leader and the spoon I was fishing with

Heard Brian mention skipjack...I ate some that was caught that same day...and it was probably in the top 3 tuna meals I've ever had. JonJon Tabon caught it on an earlier charter, I fished with him later and caught a nice GT. Going off the advice of the locals, I cut out the darkest bloodlines and pan fried the rest of the meat in vegetable oil, lightly floured. It was incredible, cooked it for maybe 2 mins per side, medium rare I would say (deep red in the middle), with soy sauce for dipping of course.

Good action and informational video per usual from you. It appears you paddled out about a mile or mile and half is all. Not bad but the Gulf Stream is right there. Further up at NC above Hatteras, if memory serves, it's too far to kayak out to. Just a west Coast fisherman raised on the east Coast wishing I could fish like that. The Big Blue out here is a lot tougher to fish and more dangerous by far.

Def bad move rinsing, than right in the zip lock without even patting dry. That florida water is all heavily chlorinated as well. Blackfin is the leanest of all tuna, awesome when fresh, doesnt store well like yellowfin or bluefin though...

It was consumed 2 hours later, but yeah the flesh reacts with freshwater no doubt about it. I’m sure the next day it’d be mush.

EliasVFishing In the Keys, the party boat mates rinse beautiful snapper and grouper fillets in that heavily treated water that gets piped from the mainland,i mean they really soak it and then throw it in bags soaking wet. You can see it turn white in front ofyour eyes within minutes....

Just a FYI. Slow pitch rods are not meant to be used to fight the fish. Just to work the jig. When you get a fish on you’re supposed point the rod at the fish and fight the fish with the reel which is against traditional technique.

@kcd845

I have noticed you and a few other RU-vidrs prefer not using a baitrunner. i.e. leave the drag loose then tighten it when the fish hits. Is there a reason you don't use a baitrunner when fishing this way?
@heysogo
@heysogo 6 лет назад
Kevin D it’s just not necessary to use a baitrunner reel. I’m assuming for him it’s just personal preference. The only time I’d use a baitrunner is if my rod was in rod holder on the surf or a dock. Otherwise I’d either prefer to leave the bail open or drag loose.
@kcd845
@kcd845 6 лет назад
You're risking losing the fish by taking time to tighten the drag as opposed to one crank and the baitrunner sets the hook. You better hope you get the drag set correctly as well, the main drag is already set on the baitrunner.
@heysogo
@heysogo 6 лет назад
Kevin D circle hooks set themselves. I’ve never lost a fish by having to take the 2-3 seconds to tighten the drag or 1 second to close the bail
@kcd845
@kcd845 6 лет назад
Really, with no tension on the line...I don't think so. Circle hooks set themselves with the drag set. The guide even says in the video, tighten the drag when the fish hits then set the hook. I just want to know why these guys don't use a reel with a baitrunner feature. Also, that first Albie was hooked with a circle.
@heysogo
@heysogo 6 лет назад
Kevin D yeah... I think so. for tuna I leave the bail open and wait until I see line peeling off, then close the bail. Or, I keep the bail closed with the drag loose, and tighten it up after the strike. I have two videos I just posted tuna fishing in Mexico on my fishing RU-vid channel “Reel Greedy Fishing” at hotel Buenavista in mexico with this technique. Caught a 60+ and 70+ lb tuna on a spinning set up with no baitrunner.
