The doldrums are pretty much here. Rich / fishaholictv247 made a pit stop and visited me. It was a tough trip overall. After he left I picked up the scraps on the nearshore wrecks with some blue crab and bottom sweeper jigs catching a couple more.
The recipe goes as follows:
(Any firm reef fish is good like sheep, black sea bass, tautog, grouper, cobia, triggerfish)
Fill pot with 7 up, add salt, bring to a boil, serve with melted butter and paprika if you'd like.
▬▬Gear Used/Discussed▬▬
Reef jigging w/
Shimano Stradic 3000 - bit.ly/2Ee7coI
Dark Matter Rod MF Action- bit.ly/2EVAMfU
15lb Finatic Braid (love this stuff) - bit.ly/2SfwFoh
30lb Seaguar Leader - amzn.to/2RBWIWx
(LMB caught on looking for stripers)

Dark Matter Rod MH - bit.ly/2GMpK1y
20lb Seaguar Leader - amzn.to/2RBWIWx
15lb Power Pro mainline - bit.ly/2siZgL1
Bottom Sweeper Jigs in 3/4 oz used for tautog & sheepshead available here - bit.ly/2tRu4TH
LMB caught on - amzn.to/2Ud9w3I w/ 1.5 oz Kalins jighead - amzn.to/2tLE0yb

Making the best of the season, rolling with the changes. Well done. Poaching in 7-Up came out of the blue ... nice surprise. ( It might actually improve the taste of hatchery Trout ... if we dare. ) Noticed something for the first time in this sequence: It's a tribute to the many hours you spend on the water, but your safety-flag is seriously faded. Could be time to replace it, and consider an upgrade to a combo LED unit. ( though the Hobie model might require a mortgage. )

Elias. your judgement has strongly influenced my thinking regarding the weather conditions, and the decision to not risk it I mean from the looks of it there was a small chop , but I realize that you figured it is only going to get worse with the given forecast BUT I figured that you would never come close to capsizing being relatively light weight ( 170 lbs , my guess)vs me at 215 I would have to exercise more caution,, but like i say I am surprised that you felt even if the chop got worse that you were in danger of the capsize scenario

Hey man, thank you for taking the time to stop and video whilst also teaching. Not a lot of channels do that, but you get straight to the point, no BS, and it is just a great bunch of videos to watch. I'd love to go kayak fishing in the ocean soon, even more so because of this youtube page. This is just a great place to learn and help gain knowledge in. There are a lot of other youtube fishing channels out there, but most are just about unbearable to watch because of the fake screeching and strange music. I wish there were more cool, badass MOFOs like you making more vids. I honestly look forward and am a bit excited when I see that you posted a new vid. Well, that probably sounded a bit over the top-especially for you east coasters, but thanks man.

@EliasVFishing
@EliasVFishing 5 лет назад
Really? I never did much of it. I assumed ten was the milestone with 5/6lb being good but not necessarily jaw dropping.
@onfootbassin
@onfootbassin 5 лет назад
@@EliasVFishing a 5 or 6 up north where I am in NJ, CT and where you used to reside in NY is a giant. The state record in NC is like 16lbs I think, but up in Jersey it's 10lbs 14oz and definetly something similar in NY. The size of largemouths is HIGHLY dependent on the region. A 10lber up north is talking state record proportions and is very rare. In NC a 10 is ridiculous, but not unheard of... Probably the equivalent of a 60lb striper. Regardless, there are still A LOT of anglers who have never caught a bass over 5lbs all across the country. However you look at it, that was an amazing largemouth sir. Regardless, a 6
@onfootbassin
@onfootbassin 5 лет назад
@@EliasVFishing I would equate a 6lb largemouth in your area to a 25lb striper and up north I'd equate that to a 50lber. Just to give you an idea.

Question, I often see that calm line/border between one type of surface water and another like in the video. You said it was two different tides. What does that mean and how would it impact fishing for something like fluke or stripers
@EliasVFishing

Bay water and ocean water tide line. Sometimes bait holds tight to it and might be the ticket to find predators.

@@EliasVFishing from what I read there's a well known place to fish for them at the mouth of a river. Though the NC fish site says: "Along the western Atlantic, gray triggerfish are typically found in hard bottom areas such as wrecks, rock outcroppings and coral reefs in waters 80 to 300 feet in depth. " I can't find the post I found before.. I swear it was saying there was a river mouth in something that starts with O? can't merember where they stack up in pretty shallow water among all this debris of wrecks and stuff.

@markw176 5 лет назад
Do you basically let the bottom sweeper just sit on the bottom or do u kinda bounce it?
@EliasVFishing
@EliasVFishing 5 лет назад
Let it sit on the bottom and wait for the right hit. I'll wiggle it through different columns of the wreck. I know a couple of structures well enough I know where I'll get instantly snagged on a mast or pilot house and try to drop right off that stuff.

Elias, what weight clothing do you wear for this time of year? Where' s the best place to purchase? Can you provide a description of the jacket, pants, boots, etc. New to kayak fishing and not sure what to buy. Bought some of your shads from J&H at the Ward Melville Show this weekend. Can't wait to try. Thanks.
@EliasVFishing
@EliasVFishing 5 лет назад
You'd probably want a dry suit if you are up north. Guys do dry top and dry pants combos but I personally wouldn't. I guess it's cheaper but I would feel very nervous about it. Here's the lightweight suit I wear in Carolinas 50+ water temps and 50 + air temps - amzn.to/2VDRfNt Really cold stuff I own a Level Six Drysuit - amzn.to/2EOytNT You'll also need non cotton layers to wick away moisture. Lots of info on different forums what guys wear. Mysterioso outfits are popular as are fleece layers.

Elias, nice job with the timing and maneuvering for the beaching... I envy you being able to catch the tog without freezing your tail off like we would up hear in the Northeast right about now. Have an absolutely amazing and very simple black fish chowder recipe I'd like to share with you and maybe you'll give a try at some point.... Blackfish Chowder | Genius Kitchen www.geniuskitchen.com/recipe/blackfish-chowder-78556 Best part about this one is it's a very creamy white chowder but instead of cream use evaporated milk which cuts down on the fat content of the dish for the somewhat health-minded individuals. I've actually made it with New England sea clams as well as some fresh cod loin if I couldn't get my hands on tog but it's by far the best with the tog.
