Three sessions in May /June (fished 19.05.21, 25.05.21 and 24.06.21) at Procter and Gamble, West Thurrock (Essex, UK). Each session produced something, with the first two using worm baits on clipped-down and boom rigs. The third session was fished differently, with crab baits for bigger bass and boom rigs for flatfish, but didn't go to plan. Venue details, rigs and techniques are dealt with.

Hi Rod, I fished close to this mark today, and thanks to you and the insights you give caught 4 Soles, 2 flounder and 2 eels. A great 5hr session where I dragged baits and induced bites. Thank you so much matey. I do hope this reaches you!

I worked on Whitehall until my retirement. Come lunchtime, I used to go for a walk along the Embankment. At high tide, there would be a few anglers set up along there. One guy used to catch a load of eels - big ones, too - on chunks of curried cooked chicken from the supermarket. They obviously liked it. The rod would really hammer over when he got a bite.

I don't mind catching eels - though they can be a pain with twirling round your hooklengths or biting them off and my hands have been covered in slime more times this year than for a good while! Thanks for watching Laurie.

Hi Mick. Other than to save a blank, I hate eels...too slimy, too messy and oftentimes they tangle your snoods / mainline. I hate weed to! The first bass of the first session wasn't too shabby. A great video as always and thoroughly enjoyable. Cheers. Ken

Nice one Ken - eels are better than nothing! I used to see a lot fishing for them further upstream in days gone by, when they were more plentiful and were being caught for food! Now protected, so fewer fish for them and its a good sign that they are coming back in numbers - although I too would rather be catching something else, like soles!

Another excellent video :-) I'm always curious about the Thames marks you fish, I fished the estuary a lot in my childhood early adult years in the UK, but only ever once upstream. That was a night I caught 11 Flounders at Shellhaven, and a dead Rattlesnake (really) was found a few days later right near where I'd been fishing !! I hope to come to the UK next year to visit my parents, would love to meet up with you for a fish somewhere if that's possible
@rodsangleuk6283

Thanks Ian - its quite difficult fishing compared to what it used to be like. I'd love to catch 11 flounders in a session nowadays.

You generally seem to do better the other side of the river. Tidal flow or less industry?

@rodsangleuk6283 3 года назад
I'm not sure why, but there seem to be more soles on the Kent side at the moment - though I've been catching more half decent schoolie bass on the Essex side and eels seem to be about in more numbers on both sides of the Thames. Thanks for watching Mike.
