Leg rides are where its at.

Yup Khabib Nurmagomedov, Cain Velasquez both have used leg rides to great affect in MMA along side the wrestlers arm bar.
@TheEvolver311
@TheEvolver311 6 лет назад
its a leg ride its simply a completely non-offensive one as most legal variants in freestyle wrestling are options in which a submission cannot be applied. This actually goes back to catch as catch can days as in that era their were essentially two types of catch wrestlers those who went for submission victories (aka the lost to the western world version in which men like Josh Barnett have attempted to resurrect and the Japanese have kept alive) and the type of wrestler who would attempt to win by pin falls (which became folk style in America). This legacy is evident in that moves like the Hammerlock are both good submission and good pin set ups and special care was taken to allow the pinning aspect of the move to be utilized while whenever applied you have the ref breathing in your face trying to eyeball that the angle has either remained at 90 degrees or obtuse and taking a point and resetting the wrestlers if it goes acute. Leg rides are similar in that the overall effectiveness of the control one can obtain off leg rides was to good to completely remove even moves like the Banana Split and Wrestlers Guillotine are also subdued submissions that are retained and achieved off the leg ride.

Good to see Catch making a comeback too...I always grappled with a style much more orientated towards Catch as Catch Can's approach, in many ways. Am seeking out schools to study the system in depth, as the more I learn about it in general, the more interested I have become. An absolutely incredible grappling system, to be sure. Much respect.

Damn - where have you been all my life? I've been looking for innovative setups to ankles locks, banana split and twister since forever. My BJJ club shuns these techniques - when they are clearly the most fun ones to do.

A big thank you for all of these videos, this one especially, which I have been studying for weeks now. Incorporating catch wrestling into BJJ has had a really positive impact on how I look for control. From this video in particular I've learned to not just jump onto the back and hope I can sneak hooks in while my opponent tries to bat them away and roll, and that there's actually a methodological approach to achieving control from this position. What a treat, thanks again.

catch as catch can is the forerunner of freestyle folkstyle and modern day pro wrestling. folk is basically catch without joint locks. catch and judo intertwined in the late 1900s when Madea toured western Europe and n America before going down to brazil. at that time matches were a mix of work and shoot depending on the situation . Abe Lincoln was a catch wrestler . Japanese pro wrestling was heavily influenced by catch wrestlers . while judo and bjj developed somewhat seperatly not completely so. there all branches of the same tree.
@michaelyeomans9316
@michaelyeomans9316 6 лет назад
also Japanese jj predates folk and freestyle wrestling. and was the forerunner of judo. the actual order goes JJJ-Judo-BJJ then a separate tree of Catch with a less linear path into free folk and pro. then a third branch of Greco which dates back to the Greek Olympics. I'm a history major who been grappling since jr. high. also there's no need to be so aggressive your not impressing anyone or making up for your lack of knowledge

Shen Shy kendo, not Kenpo. And the phrase you’re using should be ninjutsu, kendo was one of many ninjutsu arts. They almost entirely died out and only exist in the forms of sister arts such as judo or aikido

WOW!! Like I said in another video, I kind of knew this was around, but I didn't know it was this effective. And they never really said what style Sakuroba did. I wish this was in my area around 30 yrs. ago, I think I would have enjoyed it. I'm going to try some of these transitions on my wife. So, I'm putting out there now, if I suddenly die in my sleep under mysterious circumstances, call the police. LOL!!

All this seems so intuitive to me because I'm a much better sport wrestler than submission grappler/BJJ player, and it continues to be the case. I thought I could turn some cross body techniques, especially the spladle, into submissions, but having a lot of trouble getting there even when I can control the position. Hopefully this video will help me smooth out some of the technical issues in transitioning from pinning techniques to submissions.

Even in MMA, these catch wrestling controls, I dont know why more MMA fighters are not incorporating them. We can get rid of more lay and pray with proper catch wrestling controls/subs which can open up some massive ground and pound. Going all the way back the way Lesnar held Mir's head in position, draping Mir's bottom bicep and pulling his arm back to land gnp, that seemed catch wrestling ish. And there are more variations, and different types of holds, that i think could finish fights more efficiently on the ground than what we are seeing in Modern MMA today, which is just head buried into the chest in closed guard, landing pitter patter ground and pound= equaling boos amongst the crowd.

Near impossible to get to see catch wrestling in the UK. Why is that? Anyone know of anything in East Anglia UK? Why is a sport with such a long history so invisible? A printed magazine would be nice too.

is this allowed in jiu jitsu? Masterful demo...
@pur3jock2h
@pur3jock2h 7 лет назад
Some of those straight ankle locks are allowed. For the most part jiu jitsu will get to banana split and take the back instead of doing the wrestler's guillotine (Eddie Bravo's Twister). The Ball and Chain control to the Truck (Banana split control) is an important transition to understand from both sides. Depending on the tournament most if all are allowed depending on the Belt. Spinal Cranks are however looked down upon as they can lead to ruptured disks in the spine.

Do you also think he invented "The Twister" or that the Gracie's invented "The Kimura" or "The Americana" or even the guard? Let me guess, Danaher and Gordon Ryan invented leg locks too right?
