Catching Big Trout on Crankbaits [Lahontan Cutthroats]

Spent the day chasing big Lahontan Cutthroat Trout on my ‪@OldTownCanoeKayak‬ AutoPilot 120 (bit.ly/2BWCX6e) and wasn't disappointed. As usual these fish were eager to hit crankbaits trolled along at a fast clip. Pyramid Lake is most famous for these fish but you can find them at several eastern Washington Lakes including:
Lenore Lake - wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/locations...
Blue Lake (at Wannacut) -wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/locations...
Grimes Lake - wdfw.wa.gov/fishing/locations...
Omak Lake - • Cascadia Kayak Angler:...

Every time your rod starts dancing and you’re looking the other way I start yelling at you through my phone 😂 “fish on, fish on. TURN AROUND!!! Tyler TURN....AROUND....You’re going to miss it” then you grab it and it’s like “thank God that was a close one” 😂 Your videos are an emotional roller coaster

This makes me really want a pedal drive or motor drive but I can’t justify the cost of one right now. I am going to learn how to troll for Kokanee with a paddle. I hope that I can make it work. Glad to hear your home is safe!

That’s an amazing area to fish, lots of Great Lakes to fish. Used to camp at wannacut every year. Hope you guys are all good with the fires going on, tight lines

I love that particular lake. Grew up right around the corner. Jumped off those cliffs. Watch out for snakes up there.

I went to college at EWU and lived in Spokane for a while. I used to catch rainbows, browns, tigers and Kokanee, with the very rare cutthroat mixed in. Definitely a great variety to be found in the area.

Great video. I am thinking of buying an Auto Pilot 120. Loved your video on how you rigged yours. Would like to see a follow up video on exactly how you set up rigged up your Remote control. Haven’t seen anyone do that. Interested on how you attached it and to what. I was thinking small back plate to fish Finder and Velcro? Would love to see closer up. Thanks and keep the videos coming. I use a RAM Tough Claw with a threaded ball mount. I attach the claw to the handle for optimal positioning. I'll be sure to feature that in an upcoming video.

I use medium light rods designed for trolling Steelhead plugs. The yellow is a garage sale special and I have no idea what it is. The other is a Loomis mag taper steelhead rod

Injoy your videos , so tell me what your personal best are for kokane, rainbow, perch, pickeral, and of course northern pike and lake trout. My four favorite eating fish are pickeral, perch, then kokane then pike. And I mean northern pike not those what they call pike in the Columbia in the kootneys. I don't think there isn't a fish that would hit a Flicker Shad.

Spilt Milt Productions I limit out up at clear lake with them flicker shads so fast it’s not funny! It’s funny watching the boat get closer and closer to try and figure out what ya are using!

you mentioned 1.8-2 MPH is faster than you normally troll for trout. I'm new to trolling this year. What speed do you normally troll for trout?

I troll for trout using dodgers a lot so most of the time I tend to be in that 1.3 to 1.7 mph range. With crankbaits you can go much faster and cover more water.

These are both older rods out of production. I recommend 7-8' composite or glass rods medium action with line counter reels.

The yellow is an old Vedder glass rod and other is a composite trolling rod from PaulinaPeak Tackle that is no longer in production.
