Here is a video which I never published from five years ago. I snuck to the river during my lunch break in April and found myself some steelhead. Sorry about the poor audio quality.

Never seen anyone catch 4 steelhead in a span of 10 minutes. Rod is the GOAT.

When Rod says things like "I'm not very good at catching steelhead" you need to think of it as relative to your own abilities. Rod is always so modest about his fishing skills, that's why he has so many fishing videos of him catching fish! /Sarc. 😉

BTW Rod, I have recieved a wonderful gift of a brand new Islander Steelhead reel. My son in law is trying to butter me up for something I am sure. He won it in a reffel. Since I have never fished centerpin I am at somewhat of a loss as to what to do with it, RE matching rod and line? What would you recommend?

They are DNE floats for salmon and steelhead fishing. Here is an overview of the setup: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-A-3pYqpsi0w.html

First fish you caught looked like a moss clip, curious why you chose to release it if it was?
@FishingwithRod
@FishingwithRod 10 месяцев назад
This was in early April, at the start of the licence year, so I really wasn’t interested in keeping more fish late in the season especially when it could either be a misclipped or a wild.

How comfortable are you with a flyrod, i would like to watch you catch a steelie or 2 on a fly if possible:)
@FishingwithRod
@FishingwithRod Год назад
I've done it all before, fly fishing in rivers, unless I am dry fly fishing, doens't really interest me that much so I rarely film it. In a heavily fished river like this one, it's almost pointless to fly fish it if your goal is to catch one.
@MrKveite1

@MrKveite1
@MrKveite1 Год назад
@@FishingwithRod Hmmm not so sure about that tbh, i think that depends on the skill of the guy with the flyrod. Put a guy that's been fishing with flies for steelhead there for 40 years and i am pretty damn sure he will catch and not that rarely either.
@FishingwithRod
@FishingwithRod Год назад
@@MrKveite1 Yes there are few very skilled fly anglers here who can catch them. I'm not one of those and quite happy with catching them without fly gear.
@MrKveite1
@MrKveite1 Год назад
@@FishingwithRod Yes, it's important to be both comfortable and confident in the methode of your choice so i have no problem seeing that one and u do catch well so its working just fine as it is:)

Do you ever worry about bears when you're out fishing in BC?
@FishingwithRod
@FishingwithRod Год назад
Worried? No, but aware, yes. Places like the Chilliwack River you might see the odd black bear which isn’t really a concern. If I am fishing in some remote region where there is the possibility of encountering lots of black bears or even grizzly bears, then I would be prepping myself for that. Prep would be both ways to avoid those encounters, and what to do when I get myself into that situation.
