I hit the Santa Rosa Sound in search of an inshore slam, but ended up on a decent trout bite over grass flats. Included a wind knot scene to show some of the things that go wrong which I usually don't include in my vids.
Rod: 7'6" Medium Fast Action St Croix Mojo Inshore
Reel: Penn Battle III DX 2500
Main Line: 15lb PowerPro Braid
Leader: 20 lb Seaguar Blue Label Flouro
Lures: Rapala Saltwater X-rap 8 Glass Ghost and Mirrolure 17MR Chartreuse

Man, I hate those braided line wind knots too. Great job. Nice catches. Excellent dialog.

They are such a nuisance and time killer. Thanks Joe!

Gotta love wind knots close to the rod tip after a bomb cast lol! Those were some nice trout indeed, I need to hit the sound one of these days!

I usually tighten up the line after about 10 casts but sometimes forget and end up paying for it. I’m glad they were chewing that day.

What kind of life jacket are you using? Which model of NRS? Nice video!
@oafishing

That is the NRS Chinook OS. I purchased it in early 2020 through Amazon and it’s been a great.

@@oafishing Thank you! I was looking at that same one for offshore kayak fishing here in Navarre!

@@oafishing I couldn't really decide between the NRD models. From what I was reading online, for a Hobie or Old Town seat, the Chinook high back worked fine and wasn't too low. From there, I couldn't quite decide about the pocket layout differences between the Chinook vs the Chinook OS. But ultimately I think the OS is where I landed for the orange color and VHF pocket.

@@JustTheLip I think the pocket layout was the main reason I went with the OS. so far I have zero complaints about it.

Do you ever fish the east end of the bay around the mouths of those rivers? Going to be there in June and that is where we will be keeping the boat. Any advise?

Yes I have fished over there a few times and have had some luck with redfish. 3” paddle tails have worked for me in that area and a friend of mine has luck with live shrimp. I normally fish along the shallow flat areas there. I haven’t had much luck at the mouth of those rivers.

Hey man I live in Alabama but I try to get out to the bay a few times a month on the weekend when the army lets me have a little free time. I’ve never had any luck but I don’t really know any good spots. I’ve been out a few times and no bites even. Any help or advice that you can offer for another kayak fisher? Awesome content and keep it up, love your videos.

Thank you! I appreciate you watching the videos. Download the go paddling app to help you find launch spots. Using google you can determine if some areas are shallow or deeper. Grass flats and docks are always a good place to start to find trout and redfish. Bridges hold fish most of the time, just gotta figure out what’s there and target it. My go-to lures are a 3” paddletail on 1/8 or 1/4 oz jighead for the flats and a 4” paddletail with a 3/8 or 1/2 oz jighead for deeper water. I usually have decent luck throwing a Mirrolure 17MR twitchbait over shallow water that has grass and if trout are there they will eat it.
