Hey everybody! Welcome to my channel. I’m just a dude that loves fishing and want to share my fishing experiences with everyone. I mostly fish out of a kayak, but will do any type of fishing. I fish salt and freshwater but mostly saltwater in the Florida Panhandle. Check out the videos and if you like the content hit that subscribe button.
Thank you! I use a uni knot for most of my rigs, even braid to mono I use a uni to uni. Every now and then I will do an FG for line to line if I need a longer leader and the knot will be going through the guides a lot. For the uni knot I always do 5 wraps, wet it (I just use saliva), and it always cinches just fine. I tend to pull the tag end fairly snug before I start cinching the knot. Sometimes I have to help slide the knot with one hand while I cinch with the other when the line I'm using is larger.
That's the kind of luck I have and I'll take it haha. I'm trying to get offshore like you! Get you some of that inshore when those offshore days don't pan out.
These were my two main setups for this trip. I always include the setups in the video description. Rod: 7' St Croix Triumph Medium Fast Action Reel: Daiwa BG 3000 Main Line: 15 lb PowerPro Braid Leader: 20 lb Seaguar Blue Label Fluorocarbon Lure: Rapala X-Rap 08 - Glass Ghost Rod: 7' Medium Heavy Fast Action St Croix Avid Inshore Reel: Daiwa BG 4000 Main Line: 20 lb Sufix 832 Braid - Coastal Camo Leader: 20 lb Fluoro Seaguar Blue Label Jig: 1/2 oz and 3/8 oz Bottom Sweeper Bait: Live Shrimp
I was hoping to find one or two big trout in there, but I’ll take what I can get. He was something and he fought great too. I don’t think I’ll ever get tired of catching those, especially when they are jumbo like this one.
Yeah buddy! Thanks bro! It’s hard to put that xrap down when it’s fairly consistent with bites even though the fish aren’t always giants it’s still a blast. I hope you get on them!
Yes, gotta be able to keep them out of the structure. Once they start coming along you can let up on the drag some. If you're on a kayak just make sure you do your best to keep your rod closer to the bow to prevent a fish from tipping you sideways.
I live about 10 minutes from that spot and I have been fishing off of my motorized kayak I'm sure I will see you out there sometime! I was catching alot of spadefish off the bridge a couple of weeks ago
NIce! Yes, it will be hot AF haha and definitely busy with 4th of July. Still good to get on the water and the fish should be there. I feel like August is the hottest and hits the summer time lull because the water inshore gets too warm.
Thanks bro! I'm hoping to get out there soon after the season starts. I'm currently having to share my truck so I'm not sure what days I can make it out there.
Love the videos and I fish near that area. I just want to know what you look for conditions-wise and time-wise when you go out fishing? I always seem to get caught in some wind or weird tide that makes fishing in the kayak much more difficult than it needs to be. Tight lines!
Thank you! That means a lot! The Windy app is my go to for conditions and use Destin as my location. It will tell me wind direction/speed and high/low tides. Anything over 15 mph I know the bay will be white capping unless I stick closer to shore where the wind is coming from. Most of my trips I can be on the water between 9am and 3:30pm. If I had it my way I would rather fish early mornings and late afternoons, but rarely get that opportunity. Tide movement is very important but I rarely follow it because of my fishing window. I just hope the tide is moving while I’m out. There are days I just have to go full send and fish in some chop if I have a small fishing window and the bay is closest to me. If I need to clarify anything please let me know. You can also shoot me a message to my Instagram account @oa_fishing_ and I can respond faster there.
I realized I told you about the Windy app which is also great app. My other go-to is Windfinder because I believe it’s easier to read and understand. Best thing to do is use both.
@@oafishing I really appreciate it. Your videos help me a lot when I’m deciding on fishing out on my kayak and they are super enjoyable to watch as well. Thank you and keep up the amazing work!
He was whooping on me for sure lol. Damn bro, those catfish are out in full force. I caught like four of them on Friday on the flats, they kept eating the xrap.
Hey, I am in the area and stumbled upon this channel, looking at fishing on kayaks, and I'm looking into buying one. What is your kayak like brand or model? Thank you
Very neat. When I was in middle school I lived in Ft Clayton when my dad worked at US Army Tropic Test Center. I loved fishing for peacock bass, trout near Volcan and Dorado in the Perlas Island. Again, great video!
Probably not on opening day, but hoping sometime in that first week of the season. I just need to figure out my schedule. I would like to go a week prior so I can make a “how to” video for those prepping to get on some red snapper action.
Thank you! Pretty much, you have Maxwell Gunter and White Point that are right next to each other. Maxwell is the camp site and White Point is the “public” rec area which you still need an Eglin recreation pass that you can get at eglin.isportsman.net
Yes I do. I'm currently out for work and won't be back for at least another couple of weeks. I'm hoping to get on the water just before or on Memorial Day weekend.
Very tough without a fishfinder. I'm gonna hit up one of my fishing buddies on how to use google maps to mark some of the reefs on there and you should be able to get over the reefs. It will still be challenging without sonar, but you can at least know you're over them.
@@oafishing thanks man. I appreciate that. I really need to get a sonar for my yak. We’re heading to Destin in May for our anual trip, watching your videos got me wanting to head out toward those reefs and get on some triggers or sheepshead haha
@@zacharyscott9146 I got it figured out, not the easiest process, but it works. The FWC website has a list and an interactive map with public reef and wreck numbers myfwc.maps.arcgis.com/apps/View/index.html?appid=4675e1db32ac43a9a4308e757965d17d which you can pull the coordinates for each reef. The tricky part can be copying and pasting the numbers onto google maps because of formatting. Once the pin populates you can save that pin and/or create a list to which you can add more places to it. I can walk you through it a bit better if you shoot me a message to my Instagram @oa_fishing_
