Welcome back to the build everyone. In this episode I get the pistons off the rods, and the rings off the pistons to see what, if anything is salvageable. A couple of the wrist pins dis cause a little bit of grief and took some beating to get the out. I saved as many rings as I could, but lots of them broke during the removal. Some parts will be able to be re-used, in an engine again. Thanks for watching, more coming soon! Don't forget to like the video it really helps the channel out, and subscribe so you know when more videos come out on the build. Don't forget I am Ironman!!

Absolutely - I want to see as many as possible return to running condition so if my left over parts can help someone else, that’s what it’s all about. Thanks for watching sir

I was lucky in that I didn’t have to pull steering clutches or engine clutch. I would like to pull top plate to inspect steering clutch compartment and I do need new links for the engine clutch, they looked good but if you saw they started to fly apart at plow day. Having my old friends 60 in running condition to me is about my most valued possession. Keep it up, it’s more than worth the effort! 👍

We knew we had a stuck steering clutch from the start, it just seems like every time we open up a new part we find more to fix lol thanks for watching, it’ll be worth our efforts for sure!

Yah the design didn’t change much for many years, even our 2U-D8 looks very similar to this. It’s no wonder that Cat was able to convert Sixties to diesel engines without much effort, the drive components are huge!

This is one of the Cat engines I never rebuilt in my 47 years working for Cat! Interesting on how it comes apart! I use to do the connecting rod rebuilds back in in the day and never did a set of these, would have been fun to do! Keep up the good work!

Sir why didn't you let them soak in the cylinders when you removed the heads. Before you pressed them out.
@ironman3406
@ironman3406 Год назад
This was much faster and more effective - I was pressed for time to get them out - really only need a couple of the rods - because these pistons are too small for the cylinders we are going to use - thanks for watching

@@ironman3406 Ye. It seems like the most useful thing to put there for a tractor without a dozer. But, yeah, more expensive than making a blanking plate to seal it off. Hopefully one comes across that you're able to get and use! Those early cats sound so sweet too. I can't wait to hear that engine bark off again, however long that may take.

Where do you get piston rings to replace the ones that are junk? Go series.
@ironman3406
@ironman3406 Год назад
We’re still trying to track down rings - for the 6.5” ones in this video JD D pistons are the same bore and those rings work, but for the 6.75” pistons we are using it’s much harder to find rings. Thanks for watching Pat
