She LOOKS the part and would play it WELL! I wouldn’t mind if That Israeli actress (Wonder Woman?) was to play Cleo, because she too could pass as Greek! (But the Egyptians would be up in arms about that, for some reason (J E W)) …. I’m just confused as to WHY Jada pinkett Smith would choose a BLACK ACTRESS to play the part of Cleopatra?? Would you be okay if a Ugandan actress was to play the part of a Nigerian Princess or would you be outraged??
I mean, she never claimed to be Latina, and neither did Anthony Hopkins who played her dad in Zoro. It was less common to have 100% accuracy in casting in the 20th century
And yet they never denied it either… like a white woman who people ASSUMED was black and didn’t correct people when they did. Sounds ALL to familiar. It’s not that it wasn’t accurate casting, Hollywood PICKS these white figures to play OTHER races
I always knows that Catherine Zeta Jones was of Welsh origin. I think people thought she was Spaniard from Spain because of her dark hair. Spaniards are not Latino/a, but European.
I do love Catherine Zeta, but all the lovely Latinos heah it isn't fair. Just like they place blanco chicos to portray Egyptians which doesn't make sense. They were black period. Elders saw all those Black statues in Egypt and they made such a fuss with Jada Picknett about her presenting black women as Cleopatra.. Vanessa Williams looks white but she hasn't played white roles. She played herself..
As a Latina it’s a problem. She is beautiful but to take up doves that should be for specific ethnicities, it’s not right. It’s like the original west side story😩😩 white ppl with brown skin make up
Elena de la Vega is not latina. She is Spanish. Her parents are both Spanish nobility, meaning there could be lots of other mixed marriages. And Celts and Gauls are related tribes.
THANK YOU! I wasn't an expert in Mexican history, but it was obvious to me that the characters were wealthy European Spanish settlers and descendants from the haciendas and subject matter. Anthony Hopkins playing her father is a clue and Antonio Banderas is also European from Spain. The character of Zorro was also a Spanish man. 🤷🏽♀️
@@blue3374 “the wrong type of white”?? but…. Not all white peoples are the same ethnicity 🤦♀️. A Spaniard is different than a German…. Come on now. Btw I have no problem with her in the role, I just don’t get why you decided everyone is Europe is one ethnicity Lmao cause that’s not how that works. Do you think everyone native to Africa are the same ethnicity too?
Mexicans shouldn't be speaking Spanish if you want to get technical. Spanish isn't a Mexican language. 😂 it's from Spain ffs. Which is in Southern Europe.
There is no problem!!! As a 100% Latina, I support Catherine Zeta-Jones in the Zoro role. She did a great job and was strictly hired for her talent. I felt she did a great job in representing us.
Everybody knows that Catherine is not latina, I don't know anybody who thought that she was. And she never claimed to be either. She's also very natural she doesn't do all the surgeries, fake tan and try to look like what she's not (unlike the kardashians or other celebs). I love her, she's unproblematic and talented.
@@maryamkim1281 Talking about surgeries (bbl) and fake tan to look like someone from another culture. Not fixing your teeth or even botox/fillers or anything else to look younger. Two completely different situations
Initially, many people thought she was of Spanish descent, like Antonio Banderas due to her ethnic features and acting in starring roles Zorro. Later, it was shared that she was of Welsh background or of Western European descent.
I'm Mexican. I knew she was not latina. It was obvious to me and my family and extended family. Nobody cared. After all she's an actress, thats what actors do play people that they are not.
@@evaphillips2102 The trick lies not in stopping people like Catherine Zeta-Jones from taking Latina roles but in opening "white" roles to Latinas as well. I'm confused about Americans' obsession with skin colour, as a matter of fact 99% of roles out there could be played by anyone regardless of racial background. Representation must be an ubiquitous issue not a mean to keep the people firm "on their tracks".
But I heard people complain that Jennifer Lopez wasn’t Mexican, but okay for a white person to play the part. But if Halle Berry or Vanessa play a white role that there be controversial.
@@mead9 Right?! I've noticed this too, these people are ok with white people playing them, but God forbid another minority, especially if a black person plays them it becomes an outrage. They are hypocrites!
Same, it would of been big news here in Wales if she did that. We are extremely proud people. And we are proud of her and all the others who come from this tiny place and make sonethibf of themselves.
I think it’s because for many like myself, we have never really seen her interviews or hear her speak outside of her movies. I have watched her movies over and over again and still have never heard an interview until this video and was like wow where did this British accent come from. I really didn’t know. She really made her roles believable and is a great actress.

People forget that British Islanders were (and still are in many ways) more similar to Spaniards, prior to the Germanic invasions by the Angles and Saxons. Spaniards are actually more genetically similar to Brits than they are to Greeks. As they're primarily of the R1b paternal haplogroup. Which is the main paternal ancestry of western Europe. While Greeks are more genetically similar to Anatolian Turks and Southern Slavs
I think it’s ridiculous to get bothered by this. It’s pointless to get bothered by her playing a character that isn’t her ethnicity. She’s an ACTRESS; that’s what they do.
@@purplelove3666 I think the difference is that Catherine looks latina And in Hollywood if you look racially ambiguous they live it so they can send you out for multiple roles Asian people play everything from Korean, Chinese or Japanese for example Interestingly no one said anything about Jasmine's actress in Aladdin not being Arabian either because the actress looks the part so people look past it People don't care of a person stereotypically looks like that race If Ariel was portrayed by a mixed race red head actress who looked like the animated character I can bet you no one would say anything
I am Afro Latino and I had no idea she wasnt Hispanic…. I think now having people of all backgrounds is important in Hollywood however I don’t think it’s culture appropriation if she’s pretending to be something and getting paid to do it. It’s a job. She not doing black face or something extreme then it’s not that bad. But more representation is so important
I've known she was Welsh for a long time. She has even stated she is a proud Celt one time at the AFI induction of Sean Connery. In Zorro she wasn't a Latina either. I believe she played a Spanish character which is different. (I think anyways its been a while since I've seen those movies). Some parts of Spain do have Celtic roots as well like Galicia. By the way Antonio Banderas isn't technically a latino either since he's from Spain.😜
@TM Martin, Esq. I always got the impression that Esperanza was part of the same class as her husband. But it's been a couple years since I've seen it. Where do they state or imply that she is Mexican?
I just remember that Elena is the first Zorro's real daughter (Anthony Hopkins) and that she was abducted as a baby and taken to Spain to be raised. Then she returns years later as a grown woman. The movie was set in California.
If she looks the part, and she does, and she can act the part then I see no problem in her getting the role. She auditioned like everyone else, seems fair to me. Actors act. They shouldn't need to have the same background as their character. It's fun seeing actors try completely new things, including accents, backgrounds etc....
I completely agree. I find it ridiculous when I hear people complaining about petty things like that. There are way more serious things going on in the world that affect us all as humans and people are out there nitpicking actors over their work. Thats why they’re called actors. They’re just acting. Smh
Also if she only acted parts from her own culture, she would have no work. There's hardly anything done about us apart from king Arthur and sometimes they even change his background to English when his genealogy is very well documented.
I've been saying this and made a comment about this! The Addams Family are not a Latino family. In the remake, the father is Puerto Rican, but when they were first released, Gomez is mentioned to be Spanish (Castilian). She needs to do her research thoroughly before making a video.
I thought Latina referenced the descendants of the Latin based culture, which would include the offshoots off Latin with Spanish, French and Italian speakers/cultures
Zorro takes place in 1821, there were no “Latinos” back then as there was no such thing as “Latin” America, only the Spanish Empire, Portuguese Empire & French Empire that had lands in the Americas. Technically only real “Latinos” are the people of Spain, France, Portugal & Italy (Romania no so much) & their descendants around the world particularly in the Americas. Latin America wasn’t even mentioned until Napoleon III who wanted to get control of Spain’s former lands as he invaded Mexico & installed an Emperor of Mexico. “Latin Race” was to differentiate from other Europeans like the Celtics & Germanics. Latins were Caucasians (Roman Empire) not Natives of America or Black people. This like the Hispanic word first used in the U.S. 1970’s Census is misused by the United States & now the world.
I disagree with limiting any actor to playing only roles that reflect their specific culture. The people up-in-arms about Zeta-Jones being cast in roles such as the romantic interest in the film Zoro need to pay attention to the fact she auditioned against 6 Latina actresses ... Films and plays are not cast according to any sort of fairness. All casting is completely subjective and is the call of the director, sometimes influenced by a producer who wants a say in casting for their financial backing. By the logic being used against Catherine Zeta Jones for playing some Latina parts, Vivian Leigh would have been forbidden to audition for her most famous role of Scarlet O'Hara or any US film that lacked a part for a Brit because a British actor must not be allowed to play an American Southern character and Nicole Kidman would be required to speak with her Aussie accent and audition only for Australian films. The art of acting is in being able to create a believable illusion. Apparantly Zeta-Jones did this so well that she won a few roles that some people now resent her having played. Most actors are thrilled to get ANY part, especially early in their career, because it's only when they're employed that they can practice their chosen art in the most fulfilling way. Blaming actors for auditioning for parts or for a director's casting decisions (that are out of their control) disrespects the craft and spirit of acting.
Yes that's fine and all if she wasn't taking up an actual Latina or darker skin latinas spot . It's wrong regardless when the roles are already so limited . She had an opportunity to show support and grace and acknowledge that without trying to make herself out to be the innocent one when she had the choice.
Because I as a black woman have seen white ppl take on black roles for sake of "acting" but there needs to be accountability nobody forced white ppl to do that they have roles lots of an and when you take away that chance for good representation you take away a great opportunity for someone.
@@baylorsailor No, how about you shut up and listen to what people are Saying. On second thought, nevermind, you're probably one of those guys that got butthurt over Ariel being portrayed by a black girl.👎😒

The creator of Zorro based the character on several real life Spanish and Mexican outlaws; Spaniards are Hispanic from Europe not Latino from Latin America. Mexicans are both. So she’s basically todays Rosalia, white but perceived as Latina by those who think we are all the same.
Since when did “Spaniards are Hispanic from Spain” become synonymous with “white”? What makes Rosalia “white” I don’t understand. Not everyone in Europe is “white” - that’s certainly painting an entire continent with one brush. And to be honest and more specific geographically, Spain is the Iberian Peninsula and shares a border with Morocco (Africa). Ethnically, a Spaniard has only been considered “white” very recently

I remember Catherine Zeta-Jones from a fantastic UK series "The Darling Buds of May". She was just gorgeous. I 100% disagree with anyone getting their panties in a twist because this actress, who never lied about her identity unlike HILARIA BALDWIN, through her own talent and grind, was cast in a lead role which required her to pretend she was Latino. News Alert: acting is Make Believe. So, well done to Catherine Zeta-Jones for her success
Wales has a lot of people who look "Spanish". I think it's what the original people of Wales looked like back then before Norse and Anglo-Saxon intermixing.
She’s gorgeous and she was perfect in Zorro sorry. There’s so much racism even within the Latin community. People throw fits when Spaniards play Mexicans and Puerto Ricans play Venezuelans it’s just absurd to me. It’s called acting. Personally I think it’s cool of someone from a different ethnicity plays another.
This is how little y’all minds are because it’s not “cool” for someone to imitate a race or group of people. THAT is the exact problem with Hollywood. A HISPANIC woman could’ve played the part but WHITEWASHING is such a thing and it’s absurd. That’s like an Indian woman playing an African American woman role for a movie; a chinese man portraying a Native American. It’s ignorance and by accepting it, YALL are apart of the problem
Catherine Zeta-Jones is a legend. She’s worked extremely hard from a very young age, starting in England and advanced over to the US. She never pretended to be anybody that she’s not, she’s just the better person for the roles she’s been given, which is why they’ve been given to her. I am a natural redhead and I could be upset because Halle Bailey is now the new little mermaid in the movie instead of a real redhead. I think we all need to just take a chill pill and quit focusing on color so much unless it comes down to human rights. As for Michael Douglas, he’s always been a perv and has made no secret of it.
The allegations came from someone in the '80's. That was before he married Catherine Zeta-Jones. They have a pre-nup. If Douglas cheats, he has to give her $1,000,000.
Great video. Catherine wasn’t from a humble background. Her family lived in The Mumbles in Swansea which is an affluent area. UK people will always remember her as being Mariette Larkin in The Darling Buds of May. A lot of Welsh have dark features due to Wales being invaded by Iberico (now Spain)
I don’t think people still think that. When she was 1st introduced via Zorro she was also looked as having Asian in her as well. She’s full on Welsh Woman and one of my all time faves.
I remember her coming onto the scene it seemed that her being Welsh was all anyone said about her. It was the first time I ever heard of Wales. I always thought that her character in Zorro was Spanish as in colonizer descendant as opposed to being indigenous. But I don’t know the other movies she was in portraying Latin women so I can’t defend here there. she is so beautiful!! She looks a little like Bjork with the dark hair, wide cheeks and hooded eyes, maybe she has Norse ancestry.
I don't get what the problem is, she never claimed to be a latina or went out of her way to look the way she looks just to get that role, with enough research you'll find that a lot of the Welsh have close roots to Spain & Portugal... I think people are just shocked that a white woman looks latina, it's not uncommon for a Welsh woman to be mistaken for a latina. Even if she didn't play those roles I would've assumed she was a latina or Italian. When movies/TV shows like Cruella, Annie, Anne Boleyn(2021), Queen Charlotte(2023) & other movies based on medieval British history have characters race swapped all the time is it not the same thing?
It's true, genetic studies have proven that some Welsh have Spanish ancestry, possibly from the Spanish Armada. I have a friend from Wales who gets mistaken for Spanish all the time.
@@YU-bs6gb No. welsh people are indigenous, perhaps with some Moorish/Iberian in them. Wales geography protected them from a lot of invasions. Are you thinking of Ireland?
Why no critiscim of Antonio Banderas (zorro)? He is white (as in a Spaniard, aka European). The issue is people always associate being Latina with being a person of colour. Latinas can be & often are white (European ancestry).
I always thought she was Asian. She looks like my Kira dolls when I was growing up. I didn’t know she was Welsh and never thought she was Latina. I just thought she was selected for Zoro because of her dark features. I was a kid when that movie came out though.
She is Welsh which means she is a Celt. The Welsh language is Brythonic Celtic. But guess what? There are 6 Celtic languages and Basque and Catalan claim to be Celtic as well. Not only that but both Basque and Catalan are in Spain AND The evidence for a one-time Celtic Catalonia is strong: 1) Way back in 1500 BC, the region was taken over by the Proto-Celtic Urnfield people who brought the rite of burning their dead and burying their ashes in an urn in their fields. 2) The Celts were mostly absorbed by the Iberian people beginning in 600 BC but traces of their influence survives SO in fact she may be from the same people. And I can guarantee few ppl know what I have just stated!
Catherine Zeta Jones nailed it in the Zorro movies yet I think Salma Hayek or Penelope Cruz would've been EVEN better considering the authenticity. I'd rather see Catherine's Oscar winning performance in Chicago and the critically acclaimed Side Effects! 👍🏾
@@danavixen6274 That's their issue. You look at most Mexican politicians TODAY they are white as hell. The ones with greater indigenous heritage are those away from Mexico City. You can map the color line just from the way the Spaniards moved through the Americas.

Personally I would have loved to see Salma in this role bc she has incredible onscreen chemistry w Antonio, however, Catherine still slayed. That movie is awesome. She displayed her acting abilities on point.
She didn't fool anybody, i knew she's Welsh since 90s ....she has mentioned it time and again in many interviews if you didn't know its a fault at your part not hers ...
I always knew she was Welsh she got her break in acting playing in Darling Buds of May, which was a sucessful English TV series. Also the name Zeta and Jones are welsh names , huge give away .
Excellent point. As long as the actor doesn’t make a mockery of the ethnicity and honors it, I don’t see a problem. Streep was incredible in that role. I read that she worked with a linguist to get the accent down perfectly. What do you think? Was she credible?
I am also Latina and I always knew she was Welsh. But just a little history lesson for you. Wales is made up of the Celts and the Basque, people of Northern Spain. I often see people from Wales, Scotland and Ireland with darker features and probably a lot of actual Latinos have ancestry from these areas. I know I do, because I recently found out I have Welsh ancestry and I am a Latina. It would have been nice to have had more representation, back in the day, but at least nowadays we have many Latina role models, to look up to. And anyway, it was a Hollywood problem, that they didn't cast Latina actresses, not hers.
I've always thought Catherine Zeta Jones was one of the most beautiful actresses ever. You know back in the 90s when they made Zorro no one cared about actresses playing different ethnicities.
In her first film, "1001 Nights", Catherine Zeta-Jones played the role of "Scheherazade". Nobody complained that she was not from the Middle East. In France, leading roles of Arab or North-African people are often played by actors and actresses from other parts of the world, mostly from the French West Indies, or South Europe (Italy and Spain) or Jewish people. Artistically it's all right, they were the best choice. But actual North-African or Arab actors and actresses could have been cast, all the more so that leading roles are rather rare in French cinema for them.
Welsh people are genetically related to the Basque in Spain, as are the 'dark' Irish. Our ancestors came over from the Iberian peninsula at the end of the last ice age. BTW despite what she says, she looks typically Welsh. Most of us look dark like her, though blue eyes are more common. Ioan Gruffudd or Imogen Thomas (former Miss Wales) are other examples. Culturally we're Celts though, not Spaniards/Latino.
I remember 20-25 years ago when she was very popular, she was and is breathtakingly beautiful. Her unique blessing and curse is her ethnically ambiguous appearance. I feel that her response to criticism was perfect and enough, she cannot herself fix Hollywood casting - she desired to work and took what she could. I am also pleased that more Latina actresses are represented today as well as that there is room for everyone from all ethnicities. Both these things can be true, as well as that intolerable cruelty is a great, underrated film.
Being British and growing up watching The Darling Buds of May [EDIT], CZJ's nationality was a given. I do think that the US racialise looks more than anywhere else. In the UK a few Brits have swarthy looks such as Cheryl Cole. It is not that uncommon.
I never knew about the backlash from the Zorro film. Then again I haven't seen it. Wow! This was an interesting breakdown 💗 One of my favorite movies of hers was Entrapment. I remember going to the movies and seeing them. Thinking how stunningly beautiful she was and held her weight very well. Honestly, I don't know how she's stayed with Douglas for so long! This breakdown took me for some loops. What a good video Karine ♥️ Much love always 💐🫶 blessings 💗

13:33 She’s not the problem but a symptom of a larger problem. Also, why can’t she be given British or American roles? She doesn’t have to be seen as exotic. Also, not every Latina is white or white-adjacent. It completely negates non-white Latiné people.
She always claimed to be Welsh and never pretended in real life to be Hispanic. The Zorro movie is the only movie that she played a Hispanic part from what I know. My favorite funny movie from her is "American Sweethearts". It was hilarious! Note: Latina is different from Hispanic.
She has always been quite stunning and talented and certainly deserved the Oscar. That said, there were other "incidents" surrounding her and M.D. Mike made a regrettable comment to the press stating he believed he got throat cancer because of him "servicing" his wife. When that happened she left M.D. and returned to Wales until he traveled there and pleaded for her to return. The bigger mystery here is why a WELSH person looks Latina to begin with. What’s the ethnic/genetic connection between Wales and Latin America which is the other side of the Atlantic?
Latin America has varying degrees of Spanish genetics. That's the connection. The Welsh and Spaniards are both European, though the Welsh are a separate cline from the English. She just tans well.
Many Welsh ppl have Spanish n Latin heritage due to trading connections... Irish also. You can still visit 'snugglers caves' n see that history there... so technically she will have Latin dna somewhere down the line
@@y.s7787 We needn't forget that a lot of Romans came to Great Britain when they tried to own it. Not all of them went home. Many stayed. Also, there are a lot of Italians from the Northern part of Italy that are blonde and blue-eyed. It's right next to Austria, Switzerland and Germany. So we can't just say all tan complexed, darker haired people are of (fill in the blank) heritage. If we were taught in school that people of all heritages come in different complexions, hair color, eye color, etc., we wouldn't be so quick to pigeon-hole people. Same with genders and orientations. Why we have to get up in arms over people not being the way 'we' think they should is called PREJUDICE.
Looking back, there were prominent Latina roles given to Catherine. Imo, I think Latinas should have been cast. It wasn't that long ago. I remember when J.Lo was cast as Selena, there was outrage from the fans that she wasn't Chicana. In fairness, many Latinas auditioned. J.Lo, a Puerto Rican actress, was chosen based on talent, by Selena's dad, the producer. The 1 thing he insisted on was that Selena's voice be used, not J.Lo's. Catherine's husband, Michael Douglas, boosted her career. Moving forward, more Latinas should audition for all types of roles. Take a chapter from J.Lo's and Whoopi's playbook. Thanks, Karine, for your insightful portrait of Catherine Zeta Jones. ❤❤
Im British so I have always known she is Welsh...also her Welsh accent is STRONG, there is no fooling anyone. I thought she could have been European Spanish especially as some Welsh people went to Spain to support freedom fighters in their civil war in the 1930s and I thought she may have had a sleeper gene...however even if she was European Spanish, there would still be an issue of appropriation.
I’ve always known she’s a welsh actress. People are people humans are humans everyone stop being so sensitive and trying to Divide people into races we are all one race the human race.
Zoe Saldana isn't black; and yet, she played Nina Simone -- using prosthetics and darkening her skin for a closer resemblance. Thank goodness black people rebelled and didn't support the film. Nina was one of our iconic musicians and civil activist. I can name many other Hispanics who have played roles of characters who were not Hispanics. Hispanics can't have their cake and eat it too. If you don't want other races to play Hispanic roles, then you can't play character roles of other races.
I certainly understand about whitewashing (like not a single Jew has portrayed Christ....). However, Hispanics are a different matter entirely. It's not so much race as there are white Latinas (Eva Longoria) and Afro Latinas (Zoe Zaldana). Its more about ethnicity and that's where things get dicey. I remember the big uproar about Puerto Rican Jennifer Lopez portraying Mexican Selena. So, I don't have a problem with Catherine Zeta Jones because there are white Latinas who play characters other than Latina all the time. Its just that we don't know it.
She wasn't playing a 'person of colour' though. She was playing a Spanish colonizer, Spanish people are white. I'm so confused by American obsession with skin colour.
Agree but don't be confused by Americans and their obsession with this stuff they have a country built on gen*cide & segregation, it should come as no surprise why they are like this. Just wish they realised there is a world outside of the US, it's not all about them and their crazy, warped perspective🥱

I think Zeta-Jones is a great actress, & it does help that she has an ethnic &/or indigenous look which is why she's able to audition or be considered for many roles besides roles for a white (Anglo Saxon) woman. Secondly, your argument is what hollyweird or the industry used & still uses to keep out non-white actors. Hollyweird is white owned and has & had the money to choose their racial group that would benefit the most. That's why for roles that called for actors that were "extras," the industry hired white actors who were "madeup" to look and impersonate non-whites. And for major roles, the industry hired primarily prominent or well known white actors to impersonate with makeup for non-white roles, ie. Angelina Jolie portraying Daniel Pearl's widow, who is biracial & considered to be black. And meanwhile, there are many good and great biracial/black actresses, who could have done as a good if not better job portraying, Mrs. Pearl. Remember, there used to be the infamous "minstrel shows" in the US. Why do you think they were considered discriminatory & outlawed? In the past, there were also many actors of Spanish descent, Hispanic &/or Mexican background who had to change their names to English or Western European sounding names. They also couldn't reveal their Spanish or Hispanic heritage for fear of being marginalized for only extra or subservient roles, ie. Rita Hayworth

That’s in NIGERIA . When I see A NOLLYWOOD movie, do I see DIVERSITY? Nope. I only see BLACK FACES. I see a HECK OF A Lot Of BLACK AND BROWN faces in American series/TVS/movies/Netflix /etc In fact, for such a SMALL POPULATION, BLACK Americans are OVER-Represented in the USA media. Black people have an ENTIRE CONTINENT TO Dominate - it’s called AFRICA. Ever been to Africa?
Like she said...how many roles are there foe Welsh women? Idris Elba has played an American...nobody was screaming about that....people are so quick to be offended these days...it's tiring
Hmmm , it was always mentioned that she was welsh in the late 90s . Everywhere.she was ibtrodu ed as welsh actress, Catherine Zeta Jones ....... Welcome to the party! 🎉
She's a great actress. She never hid her ethnicity. I always knew that she was Welsh. If someone wants to place blame, they should blame the producers that cast her in those roles. It's tough to make it in Hollywood. Her looks opened the door and her talent made us believe. End of story. FYI Carol Channing was Black. Eva Green has African roots. So does her cousin Josephine Jobert. Hollywood isn't about truth. It's about $$$$$. If you don't believe me, go and watch "The Ten Commandments" and have a beer on me.
Well you shouldn't pass judgement on Thouse who don't agree it's not just your heritage and at the end of day people feel that role should have went to someone of Latina heritage. Especially when theres a lack of good darker skin Latina representation
OMG she was so good in cocaine godmother she played a Colombian woman. I think she did really great in that movie. From seeing that movie I really thought she was Colombian.
@@elhectero You're only saying that because Catherine is somebody you like, had she been a darker skinned lady that looked more black, you'd have a problem.😒
💖💗I love her movies and I think she's a major talent. I'm glad you did this, but I feel you dwelled on negatives more than positives. It's not her fault Hollywood lacks diversity, and if I were her? I'd take roles that I felt I could play, and that would help my career. Also remember the Zorro role was in the 90's and Traffic was a 2000 movie. We were not as enlightened about things as we are now. I hope we continue to be enlightened, as we should. I really enjoy your videos, and appreciate the work and effort you put into them. By the way, I'm a Latina too. Thank you.
She’s an incredibly talented actress! Let her take any role that she is qualified for portraying. That’s what actors do. John Leguizamo, Ana De Armas, and Jennifer Lopez have taken non-Latino roles in their careers. There shouldn’t be a double standard.
I'm ashamed to say that I have never seen this wonderful actress in anything except for the Wednesday series, but I've known of her iconic role in Zoro and I must admit I have thought she was Hispanic/of Mexican or Spanish descent my entire life. Honestly, I don't think there's anything wrong with playing another race so long as it's not crossing a line (blackface territory). It's like actors playing characters with different sexual orientations than their own. They're simply playing a part and that's they're job.
I had already seen some of Catherine’s TV films back home in Nigeria before she moved to America and knew she was welsh, British. We used to watch the comedy series Darling Buds of May in my country and then there is this small TV production called Return of the Natives, this was before Zorro.
@@KreativeKerriyeah you are not Welsh. Welsh people do not take kindly to randos who can't even find us on a map or speak the language claiming to be one of us, lol 🤣
@@jj-gk6rj i did not say I was one of you. I did say I have Welsh heritage. I do not speak the tongue, but I do know where on the map it is. Granted I am just an American, but not all of us are ignorant. I'm not even arrogant either. My father's side was from there. He passed away when I was 20. I would love to visit sometime, but yeah just some rando.
