I was a lapsed Catholic for many years, and Eastern theology is one of the things that brought me back. Purgatory made sense when I understood the concept of theosis and that there would be a final theosis. I briefly toyed with the idea of converting to Orthodoxy, but since eastern Catholic Churches hold to the same theology but are in communion with Rome, the papacy itself didn't seem like a good reason to convert. Around that time, Patriarch Bartholomew was trying to organize a meeting with the other Patriarchs. You could have played the Curb Your Enthusiasm theme song while he was trying to organize it. Because one patriarch was going, another said he wasn't going. And if that one wasn't going, another wasn't going to go. From that, I saw an administrative need for the papacy. After that, I learned about the Jewish roots of the papacy and was convinced that's how Christ set up his church.

The Filioque was introduced to England at the Council of Hatfield in 680 under the presidency of St Theodore, of happy memory. Nothing has happened since then to indicate to the English bishops that they made a mistake. The Orthodox would argue that the Filioque was condemned at a Council held in Constantinople in 879, but they are unable to identify the English delegates to this alleged Oecumenical Council. One Orthodox told me about the goat-fields of England, which is obviously just a racist slur. Others call me a papist. Even their priests use language like that.

@@Kitiwake There are currently two Catholic churches in Hatfield, and Catholics attending them are only likely to encounter "Orthodoxy" on the Internet. When I was leaving Protestantism I looked into Eastern orthodoxy because I thought the idea of a pope and him being infallible was bonkers. What's interesting is the papacy is the reason why I had to drop orthodoxy and convert to Catholicism because without the papacy, and it being infallible then orthodoxy is just another Protestant denomination. The requirement of a pope drew me away from Catholicism and then I learned how necessary it was and it drove me to Catholicism.

In early 2022, I knew I had to become either catholic or orthodox. I met with a catholic priest and orthodox priest. The orthodox priest was a former catholic, prideful, called the Catholic Church a whore, Pope a communist, said Catholics took the immaculate conception dogma a step too far, and was really against the potential fifth Marian dogma of Mary being a co-redemprtix. He only had good things to say about Vigano and the SSPX. The catholic priest I met with was humble, filled with the spirit, loyal to the Magestarium, loved Pope Francis, asked me more questions, was sincerely interested in why I was thinking about orthodoxy, had a deep love for the mother of god and understood her role in salvation history, and kindly corrected me when I shared misinformation with him. It was a no brainer decision. Why is it that the Catholic Church and Pope is hated in the most? Maybe because it’s the fullness of the truth.

The Eastern Catholics venerate St Palamas who died outside of the Roman church hundreds of years after the great Schism. I think this is significant because Palamas was against the addition of the “Filioque” to the creed and yet he is venerated as a Catholic saint. And because canonizations are infallible this seems to be a contradiction between the Byzantine and Roman Catholic rites.

For as Gerard Mercator proves in his Chronology, in the year 1452 on the 26th day of May Muhammed ordered his army to the final attack and on the following day he took Constantinople. But in that year the feast of Pentecost was on the 28th of May, as is plain from the bronze number and the dominical letter by which movable feasts are examined. For the bronze number is 8 and the dominical letter is A. I’ve never found one reason, or teaching , they would cause me to be even remotely interested or inclined, to leave the Catholic Church. If, I were inclined to Orthodoxy, and joined with them; I would always be considered an outsider. Orthodoxy is more regional, and ethnically oriented. I am not of any ethnicity, that is tied to any Orthodox Communion. Thankfully, for those like me, there is a Church, that meets the criteria set forth in Malachi 1:11. It does reach from the Rising of the sun to its Setting, (global), and offers a pure Oblation, every hour of the day, somewhere on the globe. At one minute in, you've disqualified yourself from being worth listening to. There were 5 patriarchates. Rome was one of the five. All five agreed the Nicene creed could be changed. Rome then changed the creed. When Constantinople objected, Rome excommunicated Constantinople. The other 3 patriarchates stayed in communion with Constantinople. This is history. Rome is the one who made changes after agreeing not to, Rome is the one that initiated the excommunication, and Rome was left standing alone while all 4 other patriarchates stayed together. Rome is the church that left the faith. The others stayed consistent, Rome changed. The others stayed in communion, Rome left. Catholics who say they are in the one true church from apostolic times are denying reality in order to keep their image of themselves as supreme.

The filioque was inserted to defend the divinity of Christ brought into question by Arianism. The Pope found it necessary to insert in at a time where it was detrimental for the deposit of faith. The insertion of the filioque was not really the problem, the problem was that it was the Pope who inserted it and therefore it really was a question of authority, did the Pope have authority to add the filioque? Yes he did, for the same reason Peter proclaimed Jesus to be the Son of God and Jesus said no flesh and blood revealed this to you but from the Father in Heaven, isn't it ironic that after a few centuries the seat of Peter had again to reaffirm the Divinity of Christ while all the rest kept quiet. So yes it was more because the East didn't want authority.

What about the 8th ecumenical council. This council was originally accepted and fully endorsed by the papacy in Rome (whose legates were present at the behest of Pope John VIII), but was later repudiated by Rome in the 11th century, retroactively regarding the robber council of 869-870 to be ecumenical. The council of 879-880 affirmed the restoration of St. Photius the Great to his see and anathematized any who altered the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed, thus condemning the Filioque. The fact is when the Patriarch of Rome broke away from the other Patriarchs and from the original Christian Church, they had to reject what they agreed to centuries later. In fact the Roman Catholic Church should be seen as the first Protestant Church. Peter was first a bishop of Antioch, the Present Patriarch of the Antiochian Orthodox have more claim to be a successor of Peter than the Pope.

Only the Catholic Church is the true Church from which the Orthodox separated in the 11th century. And also before that and after that. The Orthodox churches came back to the Catholic Church at the Council of Florence too and then left again about a decade later. They also returned to the Catholic Church in the 13th century and left again later on. It was never the other way around showing that they were the ones who departed in the first place (were excommunicated). That is why the earliest Christians were known as Catholic and not orthodox. No such thing as an orthodox church but nationalized separated churches. Only the Catholic Church is the true church of Jesus Christ.

I have come acrossed the RU-vid and found his comments defending the Immaculate Conception by saying, "I am also Orthodox and believe the Immaculate Conception of the Theotokos" and yet, he argued me against the Immaculate Conception. He even used St. Thomas Aquinas to prove to me that the IC Dogma was a false doctrine, but at the time I gave him the arguments of Bl. John Duns Scotus and the books Summa Theologiae III and rhe Compendium Theologiae, he gave me the Summa Theologiae I. Lol. ^^ I realized and concluded that Orthodoxes are the original and leaders of Protestantism. There are several heresies of the Orthodox churches. They deny the Catholic doctrines of the primacy of the Roman pontiff, papal infallibility, the procession of the Holy Spirit from the Son, purgatory, original sin (specifically, the inheritance of original sin through generation), indulgences, and the Immaculate Conception of Mary. These doctrines are parts of sacred tradition and can be found in the writings of the Church Fathers. The Orthodox don't believe in the one true Church as it is in reality even though they profess belief in it in the Nicene creed. They believe in energies of God and hesychasm, which are errors. And they permit divorce and remarriage, communion for people who are divorced and remarried, and contraception.

Amen. Well said about prayer and asceticism. I was on someone's radio show recently and reminded people something similar. People were wondering how to do apologetics. People were wondering how to do apologetics. And I said that it's very important to pray at least 30 to 60 minutes a day because we can't give what we don't have and we will just get angry if we don't have the love of Christ in us. All ministry and evangelization we do should flow from the relationship we have with Christ and the desire to serve and love him. We all need reminders of this sometimes. I'm actually trying to step back a little bit more during advent to find more quiet time and more room in my heart for Christ. God bless you.

Eliakim (Hebrew: אֶלְיָקִים, Greek: Ελιακιμ, Latin: Eliacim) was the son of Hilkiah. He succeeded Shebna to become royal steward or prime minister for King Hezekiah of Judah, according to the Hebrew Bible. The Davidic kingdom line, but Hezekiah was the king who put Eliakim in the position of Al Habayith. Hezekiah was the 13th king _after_ David, reigning in the late 8th, and early 7th centuries BC. This coincides with the approximate time frame when the Book of Isaiah was written.

The Sixth Ecumenical Council in no way endorses papal infallibility--the Bishop of Rome is easily read to be defending the integrity of HIS church--the Church of Rome, one of the 5 primary Churches/dioceses making up the Catholic Church of the time. I'm not talking about today's division but back when, when they left the *One Unified Church* they fragmented immediately. What had been a unified Church became for them several independent Churches, something that had never existed before. Not only that but this concept had never existed within the Israelites or the Jews. One priest over several main priests over many local priests. Not several equal priests governing their own area. Add in the so called filioque, a problem they claimed for 300 years but never brought to a council. That is the primary reason for calling ANY council and they did not do that. I feel the filioque was simply an excuse for something they did and had no reason for doing it. Rome ain’t a mess, Rome is literally the capital of Christianity. If you took Catholicism away, Christianity would IMMEDIATELY lose most of its influence over the world. Without Rome, there IS NO CHRISTIANITY. There’s just a bunch of small fringe beliefs about Jesus that all contradict each other and don’t have any real impact other than harming peoples minds.

With this teaching of purgatory by the roman catholic church, God can not be just. Example someone baptized on their deathbed who was not faithful all their lives, goes straight to heaven, good thing he was not baptized as an infant and someone faithful all their lives but was baptized as an infant and died with not enough merit, will have to suffer in purgatory for who knows how long. Should not the faithful avoid purgatory, common sense says yes. And how bout this crazy scenario. a person has invalid baptism as an infant, the wrong word we instead of I, and never knew about. On their deathbed asks a priest for a conditional baptism on the slight chance that their infant baptism was not valid. Guess what on the account of the priest saying the wrong word, no purgatory for this person, no suffering. That is just a couple reasons i can not believe in purgatory. It is just common sense

Purgatory is absolutely just. Many people would say that the owner of the vineyard and the parables, who gave the people at the end of the day the same amount of wages as those who worked a full day in the sun was unjust. The fact is, people who die after baptism have no sin or stain of sin. That's just a truth. It has nothing to do with unjustice. It has to do with God's mercy and generosity, just like in the parable. It's not whether or not you die with enough merit, it's whether you have any sins on your soul or attachments to sin. Lost is not allowed in heaven, nor is anger, gossip, sloth, and other imperfections. They must be purified. The bible says nothing unclean or impure will enter heaven. Purgatory is just sanctification completed.

The east and the west are not in communion in any way although the pope may speak differently on both the oriental and eastren orthodox. First point 21 Coptic Orthodox martyrs will be inserted into the Roman Martyrology of the Catholic Church as a sign of the spiritual communion of the two Christian Churches. How could that be when pope Eugene IV Council of Florence said that no salvation outside the church even for those who shed their blood for Christ. Pope Eugene IV, Council of Florence, “Cantate Domino,” 1441, ex cathedra: “The Holy Roman Church firmly believes, professes and preaches that all those who are outside the Catholic Church, not only pagans but also Jews or heretics and schismatics, cannot share in eternal life and will go into the everlasting fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels, unless they are joined to the Church before the end of their lives; that the unity of this ecclesiastical body is of such importance that only those who abide in it do the Church’s sacraments contribute to salvation and do fasts, almsgiving and other works of piety and practices of the Christian militia productive of eternal rewards; and that nobody can be saved, no matter how much he has given away in alms and even if he has shed blood in the name of Christ, unless he has persevered in the bosom and unity of the Catholic Church. Now Pope Francis apologized to the Eastren orthodox for what the roman church did in regard to the schism. This quote is from Pope Francis “Shamefully, patriarch - I acknowledge this for the Catholic Church - actions and decisions that had little or nothing to do with Jesus and the Gospel, but were instead marked by a thirst for advantage and power, gravely weakened our communion,” the pope told Ieronymos II, the Archbishop of Athens and All Greece. “In this way, we let fruitfulness be compromised by division,” Francis added. “History makes its weight felt, and here, today, I feel the need to ask anew for the forgiveness of God and of our brothers and sisters for the mistakes committed by many Catholics Seems to me that the pope have different ideas then those of loftin or Brian. So attacking the Orthodox church is going against what their Pope's say and obviously make these videos obsolete and ridiculous especially if they truly believe in the roman church teaching on the papacy. I mean you have a saint the have veneration to the quaran, had other religions gather together including pagans that prayed to their gods which St Paul called devils. And this comes from false ecumenism and if you read freemasons writings on ecumenism you will see the same ideas. There is so much that can be said here. The point is no eastern Orthodox can not be in communion with this and amount other teachings of the roman church. I was a Roman Catholic and had serious questions about this for many years and then about a year ago or more I started looking into these questions, digging deeper and deeper into church history and discovered Eastren orthodoxy, long story short I left the Roman Church and now becoming Orthodox. Sorry for the length of the comment. But someone on here likes to accuse me of not backing up what I say.
