​@michaelhaywood8262 wrong there are plenty of orthodox leaders who openly state they believe mary was a sinner and if they have some in their church that do believe her being sinless. The point that the east refuses to come into union with the west in it self shows there is a problem with pride and refuses to unite to glow in the light that shines from christ

Now I am more Catholic than ever, the church is the body of christ , the Bible says that many people leave Jesus alone , so many people will leave the body as they did with Jesus , Jesus was alone , so the church as the body of Christ will be alone too

Very deceiving. Do you really think that changing the wording of the creed does not change the meaning? Do you really think that the orthodox Church was responsible for the schism when in fact it's the Roman Church who changed the Creed (the instrument of unity of Christendom) falsely accused "the Greeks" of removing the filioque from the original creed, anathematized them for doing so and then proclaimed that Rome alone was the universal Church and that the modified creed was the universal one, while those who continued to adhere to the real universal creed where called "schismatics" for no fault of their own? How is it honest? In 1995 John-Paul II requested the publication of a "clarification" concerning the Creed : _What is published here is the clarification he has asked for, which has been undertaken by the Pontifical Council for Promoting Christian Unity. (...) The Catholic Church acknowledges the conciliar, ecumenical, normative and irrevocable value, as expression of the one common faith of the Church and of all Christians, of the Symbol professed in Greek at Constantinople in 381 by the Second Ecumenical Council. No profession of faith peculiar to a particular liturgical tradition can contradict this expression of the faith taught and professed by the undivided Church._ In other words : The orthodox Church always professed the universal Creed while between 1014 and 1995 the Roman Church professed a "profession of faith peculiar to a particular liturgical tradition". Which is the universal Church? The one professing the universal creed or the one professing a local one? That's why those people never invite an orthodox to debate the subject. It can certainly be exhausting. Have you read the earliest Christians for yourself, they all claimed to be catholic, not orthodox. Orthodox church. Only fragmented churches that disagree with each other and excommunicate each other even on serious heretical matters. Orthodox, we can only conclude that you didn't watch the video and see the serious problems with it, or you're just ignoring them.

I'm going to say what I say to everyone who thinks this. MAN UP! It's your Church also. Why does everything have to fall on Rome? Why does the Pope have to micromanage every single Priest in other countries? If you are a follower of Christ then follow Him. He taught..... Matthew 18:15 “If your brother sins against you, go and tell him his fault, between you and him alone. If he listens to you, you have gained your brother. 16 But if he does not listen, take one or two others along with you, that every word may be confirmed by the evidence of two or three witnesses. 17 If he refuses to listen to them, tell it to the church; and if he refuses to listen even to the church, let him be to you as a Gentile and a tax collector. If I find out my Pastor is actually blessing gay unions, as if they are marriages, then he is going to get an earful from me. If he doesn't listen to me I know of at least 20 guys in the Church who will back me up. The number one problem in the Catholic Church isn't the Pope it's too many passive Catholics in the pews. We are not called to be passive, we are called to take up our cross and follow Christ. God Bless

​​@@Matt-1926this could not be farther from the truth. The Catholics that are embracing traditionalism and TLM are the ones being targeted by the Pope. The Catholics taking the faith SERIOUSLY are the ones under fire from the Pope. Francis has done way more harm then good. At this point I think most Catholics would prefer he keep his mouth shut and finish out his obligation. He will go down as one of the worst Pope's in history. He has done more to divide and sow doubt than he has good.

Discussing the facts is not obscene. Calling people to the fullness of truth is an act of love. What's obscene is the heresy that many orthodox are making catholics be rebaptized if they convert because they see us as pagans, which is obnoxious and obscene. Our thoughts. I’m Greek Orthodox raised in Catholic schools, married to a very traditional Catholic. I take no issue with the discussion of fact or historical interpretations. I think it’s the tone, attitude, and tenor of the speakers. It’s unnecessarily hyper defensive…we should be working on becoming closer and even reciprocating communion and sacraments (I admit my family multi denominational bias here). I think this video is well intentioned but it’s missing the greater Christian purpose.

I'm honestly tired of hearing orthodox calling out the catholic church then whenever catholics point out the hypocrisy of the orthodox then all of a sudden its "why cant we get along blah blah blah" I'm sick of the east acting like victims after they mock the holy catholic church its not a good look

@clivejames5058 reading comprehension is hard for you. "I will send to you (again I WILL)from the Father" YOU JUST AFFIRMED the filioque. Now argue scripture is very clear the Father and the Son Who share one throne and one worship, "And he shewed me a pure river of water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb." No ecumenical council added the filioque canonicaly. But there was an ecumenical council that anathematized anyone who dares to add or remove anything to or from the Nicene-Constantinopolitan Creed. It was the ecumenical council of 880 held in Constantinople and validated by saint pope of Rome John VIII. This infuriated the German emperor and John VIII was murdered in 882 with a war hammer. Rome fell in chaos until 1014 while Germans and Italians fought over the chair of Peter. In 1014 the Germans took control of Rome when Benedict VIII was deposed and went to the Bavarian king Henry to beg for help. Henry marched on Rome, restored Benedict VIII and was crowned "Hole Roman Germanic Emperor" on February 14 1014. During the coronation mass the pope officially added the filioque to the Roman Creed for the first time, anathematizing himself in the process. When the Greeks stated that fact during the debates in the 13th century, Rome found a way to nullify the 8th ecumenical council : They removed John VIII from the list of the popes. Here is how they justified it (biography of the popes by the prefect of the Vatican Library published in 1479 : _Pope John VIII: John, of English extraction, was born at Mentz (Mainz) and is said to have arrived at popedom by evil art; for disguising herself like a man, whereas she was a woman, she went when young with her paramour, a learned man, to Athens, and made such progress in learning under the professors there that, coming to Rome, she met with few that could equal, much less go beyond her, even in the knowledge of the scriptures; and by her learned and ingenious readings and disputations, she acquired so great respect and authority that upon the death of Pope Leo IV (as Martin says) by common consent she was chosen pope in his room. As she was going to the Lateran Church between the Colossean Theatre (so called from Nero's Colossus) and St. Clement's her travail came upon her, and she died upon the place, having sat two years, one month, and four days, and was buried there without any pomp. _ Facing critics from the Protestants, Pope Clement VIII declared the legend of the female pope to be untrue in 1601 but forgot to re-validate the 8th ecumenical council for some reason and forgot to recognise his martyrdom. John VIII is a saint martyr only for the Orthodox Church.

There are several heresies of the Orthodox churches. They deny the Catholic doctrines of the primacy of the Roman pontiff, papal infallibility, the procession of the Holy Spirit from the Son, purgatory, original sin (specifically, the inheritance of original sin through generation), indulgences, and the Immaculate Conception of Mary. These doctrines are parts of sacred tradition and can be found in the writings of the Church Fathers. The Orthodox don't believe in the one true Church as it is in reality even though they profess belief in it in the Nicene creed. They believe in energies of God and hesychasm, which are errors. And they permit divorce and remarriage, communion for people who are divorced and remarried, and contraception.

Rome proclaimed a bunch of heresies and accuses those who do not follow their foolishness to be the "heretic" ones. That's not how it works. You can't make up new dogmas contradicting Jesus and the ecumenical councils and pretend it's the new orthodoxy. Do you still believe that the Roman Pontiff holds the imperial insignia? That all the princes are to kiss his feet? Do you believe that it is absolutely necessary for salvation that every human creature be subject to the Roman Pontiff. Where does that Roman Pontiff title come from anyways? Not from Christ neither from saint Peter. Also do you still believe that it's compatible with the Catholic faith to force people to confess their "heresy" by tor_tu_re and to send them to lifetime prison if they "confess" or to turn them into hashes if the "relapse"? America - Thanks for the question. Because of the German bishops who WANT to bless sin! The dissidents in Germany want to bless same sex relationships and homosexual couples and the church is saying NO! The German bishops during the evil Synodal Way came out with a document about blessing same-sex couples. At the very beginning of the document, it asks for the ***liturgical rights*** to be developed to bless same-sex couples who love each other. It even talks about partnerships being completely in society and accepted Therefore must be in the church too. This is for any person of any sex, including same sex attraction who truly love each other. So, they are not only blessing couples, but they are blessing sin. They are going directly against the teachings of the Church on homosexuality and moral living. This is exactly why the document that the Vatican produced says again and again and again that the church cannot bless sin! This seems to be a direct response to the German bishops. This is also the reason that the document said multiple times that these ceremonies canNOT be liturgical or formal or public in any way. There is no celebration. There is no public ceremony. It's literally going against what the German bishops wanted. What else was the Catholic Church's response to this? "The church does NOT have the power to impart blessings on unions of same-sex couples!" Also the Vatican document said: "We should neither provide for nor promote a ritual for the blessings of couples in a irregular relationship." It goes on to say that they can have a brief and spontaneous blessing, along with a prayer that asks for them to be healthy and to do God's will completely. It stresses that these people need to be living the Gospel and be in accordance with God's will according to the church's teachings. So, while the German synod was calling for homosexual liturgical rituals and blessings for sin, the church has said NO. But not wanting to turn people away from the mercy of God who may seek it, they are allowed to have a private and simple blessing to obtain the grace for conversion in their life. Finally, it goes on to say that none of this legitimizes homosexual relationships (40). But rather it calls them to live according to God's laws, not man's, and to follow God faithfully. So we do NOT see a justification of relationships, unions, gay marriage so-called, or anything else as many people are claiming like Father James Martin who does what he wants anyway and doesn't even listen to Scripture.

The original Church was a Catholic not only by name, but in work (councils). Orthodoxy emerged in 11 century. Theologians were game spolers.

Which Church changed her cred and reformed herself in the 11th Church? Not the Orthodox Church. Orthodoxy emerged when saint pope Leo III protected the Creed against the attempt by Charlemagne to add the filioque. LeoIII nailed two silver shields on the doors of St Peter basilica with the unaltered (no filioque) text of the creed engraved in Greek and Latin and this sentence : I LEO DID THIS FOR THE SAKE AND LOVE OF THE ORTHODOX FAITH

Saint Gregory of Nyssa - Against pneumatomachians Saint Gregory of Nyssa was a younger brother of the Saint Basil the Great. They were both Orthodox bishops and both are venerated as Saints in the Orthodox Church and they both lived in the 4th century. Here is a quote of the Saint Basil the Great: "Through the Son, who is one, He (the Holy Spirit) is joined to the Father, one who is one, and by Himself completes the Blessed Trinity." "From the Son" and "Through the Son" mean the same thing. With that being said, the filioque is not the issue. There are Eastern Catholic Churches reciting the Creed without it and are doing just fine.

Orthodox Churches have apostolic succession have true Eucharist. Unfortunately they are national churches,not Catholic. They do not show unity among them. Some Orthodox Churches expell each other. They have the same apostolic holy Tradition.

if rebaptism is not accepted by the catholic church, why did Paul rebaptize those who were previously baptized by John the Baptist in Acts 19?

Because John the Baptist baptized people with water, whereas the disciples of Jesus baptized people with water and the spirit. They were not baptized with the spirt as Jesus hadn't died yet. John the Baptist speaking about Christ in scripture: "I have baptized you with water; he will baptize you with the holy Spirit (Mark 1:8).

John's baptism was only a baptism of repentance. It wasn't a Christian baptism.

Peter was often away from the mother church in Jerusalem. When an angel helped him to escape from prison at night he went to the house of Mary, the mother of John, where there were many people gathered in prayer and then Peter left and went to another Place. Peter also went to Samaria to Lydda, Joppa and to Cornelius' house in Caesarea. May be James took the lead when Peter was away from Jerusalem.

The mother church became Rome when Peter and Paul both went there. This is attested to by the earliest Christians.

The book of Acts tells the story of Paul going to Rome as he had appealed to Caesar. Do you think that James filled in for Peter - not in Peter's authority though - when he was away ministering elsewhere?

I believe James ministered in the Church in Jerusalem. But we don't think he filled in for Peter. Only one had the Keys given by Christ. :)

Only peter was given the keys to heaven. James was overseer of the church. There is only one seat and peter sat on it whenever he established the church in Rome. Early church fathers talk about this and it's pretty easy to look it up

Yes, we always pray for these videos though not at the beginning of the shows. And if we do, we don't record it. We push record after. This one admittedly was a bit of a war zone, though we worked hard right present many facts, facts after fact so people could have the facts for themselves. Not just insulting the other side. I truly don’t see the reason for this video unless someone wants to create an issue between the two churches . Yes, we are different, yes we probably will never be in communion with each other. Yet, it was recognized by Orthodox and Catholic Churches that believers of both denominations are not damned to hell just because they chose one or the other. How about we come to understanding ! C’mon ! Eastern right Catholic folks are not too far from us if not the same besides recognizing the pope . I am born and raised orthodox who has no issue attending eastern right mass or Latin mass . I respect both churches. Yet, I will stand up for my church! My husband who is a former Baptist and the family loving the orthodox life . How about you let it go! I am sure we could go deep into theology and fight it out as some crazy folks on internet do, but I rather not . We can love and respect each other differences for what they are . In my opinion it is the best approach to this argument after seeing a whole bunch. I will add even more to my speech, no Catholic priest I know of would appreciate this video because it creates more confusion and disagreement between two denominations and that’s not what either of the churches want .

Some good points to which we can agree, but if we are basically the same, why are many Eastern Orthodox rebaptizing Catholics who convert (a huge heresy already defined by the early church). That shows that see us as lost. They have some other large doctrines too that have changed. Did you watch the video by chance? There is good reason for the video.

@@CatholicTruthOfficial I have watched the video and I am aware of some unfortunate practices. Most of them happen in ROCORE churches by the way. What is the point of exchanging blows though? Both churches have something to work on. Catholic church across the street from me is flying a rainbow 🌈 flag. Yet, I don’t fall under an assumption that it is normal . Both churches made changes and made some mistakes. In both churches we can find some crazy parishioners who are ready to chase a newbie with a broom 🧹 😂. I could go on and on. My good friend who is Catholic, has to drive now additional 40 min because most of churches in our area are not allowed now to do Latin mass anymore ( so so sad by the way). My son’s grandmother is Catholic as well as my son’s great uncle who is actually Catholic priest . Neither one of them has made such an attempt to point out how good their church is and how right they are ( because they are humble people and loving Christians). It is an example that we can and should live in peace and stop trading blows. How about we concentrate on beautiful things about each other ? Catholics and Orthodox had done all the fighting thousands of years. It didn’t solve anything .

@@1988bogdanaI think it should be readily apparent that an individual or even several Catholic parishes flying a rainbow flag in itself isn’t a statement on dogma or even teaching necessarily, but even if it was under Catholic ecclesiology would be a dissenting parish. Not Catholic teaching. But Orthodox ecclesiology is different, and especially as it pertains to something as serious as the sacraments. This is obviously in an entirely different ballpark to merely a “mistake” or an individual parish flying a flag. If the argument here is true, what’s at stake is that local Orthodox churches would be committing and teaching sacrilege by re-baptism over and against other Orthodox churches. So while it’s true that fighting doesn’t solve anything, neither does ignoring and pretending serious errors don’t exist solve anything, but results in stagnation which itself is a huge problem. We should not be complacent or content with the Church being divided. This “live and let live” mentality is itself a mistake. Identifying the truth of these problems isn’t “fighting” and on the contrary could work toward helping someone realize that they hadn’t actually thought through their position or the implications of it.

What is attractive to me about orthodoxy is the ancient mass. I'm not too fond of the new mass. I want the priest to face away from the people, the mass is not about you, it's about God. I don't want to do the sing of peace. We are there for God alone, not to socialize with each other. I want the candles, incense, and Latin mass. I want it to look like it's the 15th century. The new mass was distorted by the protestants. They took out Lord, save Your people from fornication from the litany of the Saints. That is so wrong. Why can't we go back to the way it was? I want the kneeling rails, I have to kneel down to take the Eucharist and it would be so much better if we had the rails so I don't lose my balance.

@@CatholicTruthOfficial I live in Oregon and I would have to drive an hour to get to some of the really good Catholic churches that offer Latin Mass. My only car is not too good, so I go to an N.O. Mass close by. I just wish that having 3 Catholic churches all within 20 minutes of me would offer at least one. They have Spanish services, I just don't understand why we don't have at least one or is there anything I can do to let our Archdioces know that we need one. I am still new to all of this. Is it possible to put pressure on our Bishop if enough people want a TLM? Our local churches are always asking for money and I know their funds are going down, having a TLM would increase the number of people attending I know this because the young people love traditional Catholic services.

I've been following you for a while. Being raised catholic, I have a bias toward catholicism. However, I've noticed people will go miles (myself included) to protect their tradition and obsolete religious dogma because it is a part of their ego, even if it has nothing to do with Jesus.

Catholicism is work salvation, please turn to Christ in faith as the Bible clearly says we are saved by grace which translates to CHARIS meaning "unmeritted favor/free gift." quite literally. There is a Reason why Paul says in Romans "for the wages of sin is death, but the FREE gift of God is eternal life through christ Jesus our lord." Again grace's literal translation in the Greek is "unmeritted favor/free gift." Salvation is completely free all you have to do is believe that what Jesus did for you 2000 years ago actually worked. He died as a substitute for sin on the cross for you and me because the penalty for sin is death, if the penalty has already been paid and "by grace you have saved through faith" then all you are doing is believing that his payment was for you, a.k.a excepting it and believing you have eternal life as a result of his finished work (and of course believing he rose from the dead as a dead savior can't save you.) The reason you cannot add a work to Christ's finished work is because as Paul makes clear in Romans 11:6 "And if by grace, then is it no more of works: otherwise grace is no more grace. But if it be of works, then is it no more grace: otherwise work is no more work." You aren't under grace if you add something to the gospel because grace must be unmeritted for it to be attributed to you. Again, you are just trusting in what Christ already did for you, that's why in ephesians Paul says "after you believed, you were sealed with that holy spirit of promise, which is the GUARANTEE of our inherentance until the redemption of the purchased possession." Paul can't use the word guarantee here if salvation is partially based off of something you do, as obviously YOU can fail in your efforts meaning there is obviously no guarantee. But if it is entirely based off of what Christ did, then there is a guarantee.

Paul says "for by GRACE you have been saved through FAITH and NOT.....OF......YOURSELVES, it is a GIFT of God, NOT as a RESULT......OF........WORKS, so that no one may boast." Thats not an interpretation, that's reading plain text. If according to Paul we are saved by "unmeritted favor" then logically you CANT MERIT IT. Which means you can't "work" to effect it, it has to be by faith alone. This stuff really isn't that hard.

He put his faith in God and then he was obedient to God. The whole concept of eternal security is just idiotic to me. So you’re telling me Simone accepts Christ at X Date. He can then fornicate, murder, and d cheat his life to his hearts content and then then he can renounce Christ and he will still be saved? That is just completely moronic and stupid.

Where does the Catholic Church teach that? I mean officially, not what different Catholics may wrongly believe. It doesn't - quite the contrary, it is condemned as heresy and we do believe in salvation by grace. Even those works are a result of grace. Some Catholics may not understand that but it doesn't mean it is what Catholicism really teaches. Are there not Protestants who have a wrong legalistic mindset and think that their salvation is dependent on their works rather than grace?

Yes. The trick in the magisterial document is that there is any union or couple at all, which, by definition of the persons as individual sinners, there is not; plus there is a paragraph switching the meaning again, saying they're a "group" like blessing old-age persons or veterans as a group, as if the two gays are just a group. And there's no mention of repentance. Because it's magisterial, some question if this is the vicar of Christ.

This is why one should not rely on Ben Shapiro for their theology. Ben’s reasoning (assuming what you’re saying about him is true) is wrong because there is no logical basis to conclude that blessing a person necessarily implies blessing sin, which by nature of both blessings and sin cannot be blessed. If one has a poor or even abusive relationship with their brother or friend and seeks a blessing for the healing of that relationship, even if they fully expect that this will not be so in the immediate future, it is utterly irrational to believe that what is being blessed here is the abusive nature of their relationship. What’s clearly being blessed are the persons, that God may foster within them actual grace to bring their relationship into order with the Gospel. Assuming that the sin itself need be removed in order for a blessing to occur ignores entirely what blessings are. Especially without identifying what sin we’re talking about it, no one could ever be blessed under this criteria; a criteria that is foreign to Christianity and Judaism, and not one that I think Ben himself actually argues for. I would point to Fiducia Supplicans for a more complete understanding of what blessings are, their types, and purposes.

Clearly you didn't watch the video haha. If you did coma, you would have seen that the orthodox have changed many doctrines and dogmas from the ancient church. So you must be joking when you say you are the true church, especially since you didn't exist until the 11th century. Read the earliest Christians. They were _all_ Catholic, not Orthodox. Not in a generic sense only but in a specifically Catholic sense. The Orthodox came returned to the Catholic Church twice in history and submitted to the pope again only to break away again later. It never happened the other way showing they were the ones who broke away in the first place. Not to mention the Council of Florence when everyone came back, and then left again a decade later. Plus, there's no one Orthodox church. They are nationalized churchrd that fight with each other and excommunicate each other and are going into schism with each other. Lets not even mention the fact that the Eastern Churches agreed with the Pope and then changed their teachings many centuries later. The orthodox can't even agree on major heresies and doctrines and are still debating them, which stem back to the 5th century

The pope excommunicates people he doesnt like, all the time and popes in the past have. their are many subsects to catholicism.. I could go down the list. It can be hard to see that their are major divisions if you stay in an echo chamber, but their are major occurrences, currently happening that could divide this church. Since Catholics love their councils, their should probably think about organizing one quick because this current pope isnt helping keep this church together. As much as you say its plain as day.. it's not. The orthodox church can agree on that point at least.

Pope Francis is not blessing all the gays. You need to stop spreading this information and read the document. The Pope specifically said we cannot bless sin or unions.

You've got it the wrong way around just like a Protestant cultist. The Gospel is wide - its spread to every corner of the Earth by the Catholic bishops commissioned and announced by Jesus. The Universal ie Catholic church is "narrow" for it IS the true body if Christ present on Earth and thus thee only way to get back to the Father...as all the genuine Christians believe since the Jesus founded His one true church "Extra Ecclesiam nulla salis" (there is no salvation outside the Catholic church). Many were called but few are chosen!

I see the mess that is the Pope and have thought of moving to orthodox church. The blessing of the individual repentant sinner to help him or her not to sin. Is way different than blessing sinfull unrepentant homosexuals in a disordered union is absolutely unacceptable any way you spin it. Modernist Ecumenism has been a total disaster.

Did you read the document. It was all about the blessing the people to help them follow God more and his commandments, to obey the church, and to live faithfully as God wants us to. It's so clear that the Church cannot bless sin. There's no way you can't see the much bigger mess of Orthodoxy after watching this video.; )
