I always hated that they cut my favorite line "wonder how my memory slips while looking over manuscripts of unpublished rhyme, drinking my vodka and lime."
@@matthintz9468 I think the reason they originally cut it (and shortened the bridge) was that it was recorded for a movie soundtrack ("Less Than Zero"), and the director wanted it kept fast and short to fit the opening title sequence, or something like that. As KeKway says, they do that verse when they perform it live. (I suspect the reason they never did a longer studio version is because since it *was* originally done for the movie, the distribution rights and royalties are probably tied up with the movie studio somehow. There's all kinds of contractural weirdness involved with film and TV scores, unfortunately. :-( )
OMG I’m so excited I’ve been waiting for a reaction to this!!! LOVE LOVE LOVE this song, and the movie it was made for Less then Zero is one of my favorite RDJ movies!!
@@gaildevaney6074 Yes, it was originally written and performed by S&G, however, the Bangles cover was for the movie Less Than Zero. There are clips of the movie in the video.
It’s actually a Paul Simon remake and the drugged out kid in the video is Robert Downey Jr. in the movie Less Than Zero. I think this was the main song of the soundtrack...
@@strangeworldsunlimited712 They got lost in the crowd of Girl-bands in the 80s, over produced and over managed. I circled back a few years ago and discovered the true genius of their work. Even 'Egyptian' (which sounded trite and gimmicky at the time) is magical to these old ears. They are all still talented, beautiful ladies to this day. And Susanna still has the best eyes in Rock
Bangles will always getcha. They are fabulous and their harmonies are just incredible. I think you would REALLY dig In Your Room. I could give you an album list instead of a song list with these ladies. They are that good.
A sign of how great they are is that whenever it switches from the harmonies to the lead or back, I'm always welcoming the switch, because each part makes me want the other part more. Like in this and Walk Like An Egyptian, they save Susannah to be the secret weapon but all the other parts are perfect too.
Hero Takes a Fall, Going Down to Liverpool, If She Knew What She Wants, Walking Down Your Street, Make a Play for Her Now, Following..............would all be great Bangles songs to react to
This 1987 song was a return to the Bangles' sixties-revival roots. They had that popular mid-eighties period where they did songs written by Prince and stuff, songs like "Walk Like an Egyptian" and "Manic Monday," but they started off in the early eighties as a sixties-revival band that one music writer described as a mix of the Yardbirds, the Mamas and the Papas, and "Revolver"-era Beatles, with great guitar work and harmonies. They even dressed in sixties styles, and they and other bands doing similar stuff inspired Prince's "Paisley Park" phase, which led to his support of them. This cover of a late sixties Simon and Garfunkel song brought their sixties-revival roots to the forefront again.
The Bangles were no joke, I don't think the world was ready for them. Meaning, the should've been on top for 20, 30 years. Not more or less a flash in the pan.
@@Lubsana86 I was a kid at the time, and didn't really even like them except for this one song, but yeah, they were definitely the sh!t back then. One of the best covers ever, imo.
Paul Simon song recorded by him and Garfunkel in a more mellow style back in 1966. This rockin' Bangles' version was used in the Robert Downey Jr. film from the '80s about young, wealthy drug addicts called ""Less Than Zero." Check out the Bangles' "If She Knew What She Wants" (which was their follow-up to "Manic Monday"). It's more in the style you would expect.

This is the Bangles' cover of the Simon and Garfunkel song from the duo's 1968 album *Bookends* (track 11 of 12). The other Bangles hit was "Walk Like An Egyptian".
J, you should try Joan Jett and the Blackhearts “I love rock and roll” or “do you wanna touch me” and Pat Benetar “Love is a Battlefield” or “Hit me with your best shot”
My brother and I were 11 and 9 years old when this song (and the accompanying film "Less Than Zero") came out, and we didn't know Paul Simon yet so we had no expectations and we CRANKED up the volume on MTV and jammed out to this so hardcore for WEEKS and WEEKS that my parents actually asked us to stop playing it. And can we take a minute just to recognise what AMAZING women we had kicking a$$ in the 80s?! Susanna Hoffs is a goddess (check out her cover of "The Look of Love" from the Austin Powers soundtrack btw!!!), the whole band KILLS IT, and even Jami Gertz was that kind of "hot tough." As soon as I saw you start the track, i cranked up my volume to max and put on my headphones, and after 30 years, this track still packs a massive punch... Thank you JayveeTV for another great upload!!!
I was hoping you'd do this today when *I* was listening to it for winter solstice! I'm so glad you checked it out. Love them and this cover of Simon and Garfunkel's awesome song.
How Roman Catholic of you.....so glad everyone is into Babylonian fertility cult worship aka mary worship. Its so crazy how accurate bible prophesy is. And why wouldn't everyone follow religions founded in lies prostitution and human sacrifice.
Bangles, way underrated. Everybody had them as pop, but they could rock. This is also a remake, that the original was great, they did a whole different take. Which does justice.
It’s a great song because it was written by Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel way back in 1968, 19 years before the Bangles did this cover of it. So many of the best written songs can be traced back to Simon and Garfunkel.
This is one of my all time favorite songs. It was really popular when I was in middle school. And watching you react this way was AMAZING!!! Much love to you! I’ve subscribed!❤❤
A few other really good bangles singles to maybe review - “hero takes a fall” “going down to Liverpool” “in your room” “if she knew what she wants” “be with you”
I think he's already done Eternal Flame and Walk Like An Egyptian, but he definitely needs to check out Manic Monday. I would also add "Going Down to Liverpool" and "If She Knew What She Wants" to the list.
You need to do the original Simon and Garfunkel version from the album Bookends, though this was a great cover version. Another great Bangles song is “If She Knew What She Wants.”

This is their best song in my opinion. Written by Paul Simon of Simon and Garfunkel. Love the lower alto voices of the 2 sisters. Thanks Jovaughn. Please do DO THEY KNOW IT'S CHRISTMAS by Band Aid 1, 1984. Charity song involving many popular artists eg. Boy George, Sting, Bono, George Michael, Paul Young, Phil Collins on drums. Written by Sir Bob Geldof and Midge Ure from Ultravox. Many thanks x
Just wanted to chime in to highly recommend watching the film "Less Than Zero". It was one of Robert Downey, Jr's most compelling roles. Be sure to look for "Blacklist" lead actor, James Spader. Another vastly underrated actor that shines in this film, too. Fantastic all around.
"Be With You," "Hero Takes A Fall" and "If She Knew What She Wants" are more great singles by the group. And they have some excellent album cuts, like "Let It Go," "Glitter Years," "Something To Believe In," and "Dover Beach."

Another great Bangles song that is similar to this one, but people often forget when listing Bangles songs: Be With You ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-1VAe_gCBDmI.html The beat totally reminds me of the iCarly theme song.
Hey Jayvee.... Did you recognize "Iron man" in the vid? 🙈 RDJ handsome as always ❤️❤️❤️ There are a lot of songs you could react to.... Walk like an egyptian.... In you room.... Manic Monday Ohhhhh.... Speaking of Manic and Monday..... You could react to "The Cure".... They have a song called Friday I'm in love. Greetings from Ecuador 🇪🇨 🤗 ❤️
Look around , this song is about drugs , the shady Haze of winter , what became of some of our friends... Now it's 2020 , and it's still happening , just look around and you will see....😷😢 No one should be less than zero...
Thanks, Jayvee -- did you listen to the original by Simon and Garfunkel -- as mentioned below - this is a rare case where I prefer this "remake" version to the original -- they just ROCKED it - and kept the harmonies at the same time -- you go, girls!
KISS was basically pop metal anyway so it's not much of a stretch, (And yes, I became a member of the KISS Army over 40 years ago, so I'm not dissing them.)
Definitely NOT a Christmas song. This is a cover of an angry Simon & Garfunkel song written by Paul (which was one of their best rockers too). You should check out the original also. One of S&G's best songs and very underrated.
You need to see Susanna Hoffs rock it out today. She’s 66 now and hot as hell. Seriously. Look up Billie Armstrong with her singing “Manic Monday” during quarantine. It’s a kickass Bangles song written by Prince.
That's Vicki Peterson on lead guitar. She's amazing. All of them are amazing. The song was written by Paul Simon and released by Simon and Garfunkel in the 1960's. Simon's lyrics and the amazing guitar riff he put together were taken up by the Bangles and absolutely elevated.
Ace of Base is also a really good band to check out, they had a bigger influence on music than people think. Cruel Summer is the one I like, they have some other huge hits though
