10 months late but fun fact: This song was done in one take and Teena had to be rushed to the hospital after because she was really sick with the flu

Teena was so incredibly sick when she recorded this in one take. one fucking take. As soon as she was done she was rushed to the nearest hospital where she stayed to get treatment and recover for a few days. This was Teena on a really bad day and she snatched every wig, toupee, lace frontal install, weave, extension, and hair implant and tossed them into the core of the sun.

They were a couple for a while, and even after they broke up they still had much love for each other, so much so that they actually died within a short time-span of each other. Folks have said Teena died of a 'broken heart' after Rick left.

@@jonathandoelander6130this is true. Don't think the record companies didn't know how to market her. She was def urban/soul not pop. Back then radio stations were pretty black and white so to speak. We didn't have utube, Spotify or Itunes etc for them to market themselves.

Can you believe that Rick James DENIED those allegations?! He didn't want to lose his "street cred" w/the Black community for dating a white woman. Don't know WHY he was worried about it, it was like, Everybody KNEW they were a "thing". Same situation w/Tupac & Madonna. Tu ended it because he feared that his fans would diss him for being a hypocrite by dating a white woman. All his cred would be lost. It was too bad too 'cause apparently they REALLY cared for each other. Madonna was really hurt.

This song is a whole experience. To this day I'm still shook that huge soulful voice was coming out of Teena Maries tiny little body. She wasn't even 5'1. She could have easily been a huge Opera star. Young ppl aren't ready for this song 😂😂. If you haven't had multiple broken hearts you just don't get it. If you can appreciate this masterpiece I'll definitely sub you!

I went to this concert when this song first came out .Even in concert they killed it especially Teena. Rick was smoking weed on stage as well as everyone in their. This was the 80's and a great time to be alive...peace

Darlings, I hope this request came with the warning label. This song came out in 1981 and every time it was played on the radio, at a dance or a party, or the roller rink - EVERYONE GOT PREGNANT!!!! I'd almost guess at least half of the urban population age 30 - 40 were conceived while this song was playing!!!!
