CAYMAN 987 S vs 911 GT3, WHICH IS LOUDER? SURPRISING RESULT

Well I have swapped the exhaust on my Cayman 987 to a performance exhaust, more specifically the Topgear valvetronic exhaust. Now to say I love this exhaust would be an understatment, it has not only trasformed the sound of the car but also the way I feel about the car. That is not to say I didnt like the Cayman but what it has done is help me realise how good the car really is!
In todays video my friend brought his Porsche 911 GT3 out for a drive and to find out if his standard 911 GT3 exhaust was any match for the Cayman. The results may just surprise you,

Haha. This is better content Joe! Not sure how scientific this was, just a slight gust and the background will affect the total but it certainly gives an idea of what the TG exhaust is capable of. I’ve read before how folk travelling behind a cayman + exhaust say it sounds like a GT3. Similar comments are given to the period PSE option when valves open. Mines yet to go on. If you are ever near Edinburgh give me a shout and we can do a similar exercise.

Thank you! Really appreciate that. Yeah I mean I’m not sure how accurate the iPhone app was but louder seemed to be louder on the test. Either way sounded incredible. I’m often up in Scotland! Thanks for the offer :)

As strange as it sounds the exhaust note should match the car, the Top gear exhaust is too loud for a base cayman and makes it feel a bit boy racer ish, where as the GT3 is designed to sound and look that way. I just found the Top gear stuff too low in frequency and a bit droney around 2700 RPM.

Mines the S tho so maybe a little different to the base. It is a little droney but I’m used to it now and still easy to daily. This is with the valve open of course and with it closed off it’s very standard sounding. Love the pitch of it on full throttle

@JoeTalksCars it is only droney when the valves are open and not when closed? Think about doing this exhaust upgrade myself, and this is the only thing holding me back at the moment.

Now i want to hear yoru top gear valved exhausts when the valves are open vs top gear non-valved exhausts which i have. if you don't live far from Southampton area, please feel free to give me a shout to review my car or make a video of sound comparison.

@@JoeTalksCars Ah I love this road, I'm closer to Manchester but always try to get the Cayman there for a drive and a pit stop at the Lion inn of course!
